  • Ultima up to part 7 was just awesome. With 8 they went downhill fast...

  • @huldu In fact Ultima 8 was a great game in argument, but the gameplay and some stuff just went down. Ultima 9 was a total travesty.

  • @MrSantiago0789 Well to be far Ultima 8 suffered alot due to EA forcing Origin to rush the game out for the holidays despite the fact that a holiday release wouldn't logically boost the sales.

  • @carameluz VIII had a great history... the game is awful in gameplay and story-cuts. But the ambience was great, a really mature game, the Avatar must admit that some sort like "unvirtuous" things must be done to achieve a greater good. For example, when he must choose Bane or Vardion death. When he stole things and the unleash of the Titans in the world.

  • Great composition and artwork!!

  • You know, the box art for this game is incredibly ironic. The Avatar, bathed in golden light from on high, stands like a heroic symbol of absolute good over the corpse of a fallen 'daemonic' gargoyle, but anyone who has played the game to completion knows just how un-Avatar-like that image will ultimately seem to the player. I wonder if that was a deliberate attempt to play upon the prejudices of the player. Bravo to the artist and to LB if it was.

  • @TaintedMustard It was exactly the intention, as was told by Lord British himself on various interviews...

  • @piajeno That's cool. Sorry, I've never seen or heard a LB interview.

  • @TaintedMustard The extract of the interview is here:

I hope you can read it, sorry my poor camera :(

  • @piajeno Crystal clear. Thanks. I always liked the cover, and I figured it was intentional, but never knew for sure. These days, you might have any number of people working on different parts of the game and they might not all share the same vision. It was different then.

  • @piajeno Good work there. If you know where I could find the books in .pdf, let me know.

    Thank you.

  • @DragoonApprentice I'm not so sure that they was in pdf... I bought my copy by eBay, for a extremely cheap price...

  • @piajeno There is a lot of .pdf books of Ultima series around the net.

  • From a time when games truly sounded epic. :)

  • Is this MT-32?

  • Interestingly, while Lazarus (Ultima V) uses this theme, Archon (Ultima 6 Project/Ultima VI) does not.

  • @sslaxx Bad that they didn´t use this theme for UO, not even in a epic quest.

  • @chanchi789 Was it not in UO? I seem to remember it, maybe I'm just mixing things up. It's been a long time.

  • @Shodex4 Sorry, it was in UO, also the classic song of Britain.

  • @chanchi789 Okay, good. I thought I was going crazy. :D

  • @Shodex4 I mean, the bootup, I don´t remember hearing this one in UO. The BOOTUP (and a variation of the character creation) was in UO. This one I think don´t.

  • Are these versions of the tunes from Ultima VI taken directly from the game and if they are, what kind of sound hardware was used for playing them (since the game used MIDI, the quality of music depended on soundcard)?

  • Nineteen years, and it sounds as anthemic as ever :)

Wonderful interpretation - I love the bit from 0:57 - 1:13, reminds me of something from Vangelis ;)
