@joemanente3 Actually, the ideal height for a 100m sprinter is around 5'10". Taller people are usually slower to accelerate and slower out of the blocks, so the longer strides don't matter as much. Usain Bolt is a freak of nature, because his turnover is about as fast as everyone else's AND he's got long strides. He shouldn't be, he defies logic. As I said, freak of nature.

This was actually very impressive for Shaq. Bias aside, even if he did get a handicap with his one-on-one race with Tyson Gay, he won by a very confortable lead. Waht is 30 meters? Even if Shaq was set-up to win coz of the handicap, he was able to sustain the lead very well. Even if there was only a 10 meter handicap, I think Shaq would have stil won (given this showing). And in the relay, Shaq had no chance, because Tyson Gay got the Baton ahead of Shaq. But even so, it was still VERY CLOSE.

@joemanente3 Actually, the ideal height for a 100m sprinter is around 5'10". Taller people are usually slower to accelerate and slower out of the blocks, so the longer strides don't matter as much. Usain Bolt is a freak of nature, because his turnover is about as fast as everyone else's AND he's got long strides. He shouldn't be, he defies logic. As I said, freak of nature.

@tmvelasqu Shaq is pretty fast. NBA players need leg muscle so thats one thing Shaq has, and the other is, his legs are so long that he gets more ground covered while Tyson has shorter but way faster legs.

This was actually very impressive for Shaq. Bias aside, even if he did get a handicap with his one-on-one race with Tyson Gay, he won by a very confortable lead. Waht is 30 meters? Even if Shaq was set-up to win coz of the handicap, he was able to sustain the lead very well. Even if there was only a 10 meter handicap, I think Shaq would have stil won (given this showing). And in the relay, Shaq had no chance, because Tyson Gay got the Baton ahead of Shaq. But even so, it was still VERY CLOSE.

@vf1rj No offense, but look at it again. Of course Shaq runs 30m faster than tyson runs 60m. So Tyson needs to run a distance twice as large as the distance Shaq ran. In the end there was like 10m between them. So Tyson runs like 50m when Shaq runs 30m. So not a chance Shaq could win with a 10m lead. Which is really nothing to be ashamed of when your running against Tyson.

@bbartje01 None taken. But check the vid again, at the end of their one-on-one race, Shaq's lead was considerably more than 10m. Anyway, Tyson gave him that handicap, which he failed to overcome or shorten it to a considerable degree. He underestimated the Diesel. Tyson said so himself. Regarding my comment about the 10m lead, check the relay, Shaq ran fast enough to make the race too close to call, even if his teammates lost it for them already. Tyson touched the baton ahead of Shaq.

@VpY22 Nope. Watch the video... Tyson couldn't get overcome the gap. The announcer said that Shaq had an impressive performance, and that it wasn't even close. Check the gap when they started, and the gap when they finished, Tyson wasn't able to overcome the gap, even by a little bit. He waqs noticeably embarassed at his performance at the end of it, to be brutally honest. He underestimated Shaq, plain and simple. Anyway, don't take my word for it, just look at the video.

Yes, tyson may very well be faster than Shaq, but Shaq's performance is still very impressive, considering a lot of people underestimate him because of his weight and age.
