I love soccer and i need to work on my kicks but i dont have a big wall or something to kick to myself so if i get a dog im gonna teach it to get it for me.
Your videos are great! I've been following You Tube for years but these are the only videos that have gotten me to subscribe and comment. BTW, I'm not a kid, I'm a 64 year old female.
that's great Zak. It's harder to carry 10 soccer balls though isn't it? I'm working on teaching my dog to juggle. Maybe when I get further I will post a video.
how fun would it be to teach them to get goals, and play with a team of different dogs. BC on one side, A different color dog on the other, like rotties, they are a herding bred as well, or golden labs, and should like to play. That would be very cool to see. I heard you say you preform with dogs. Just an idea.
i also have a Border Collie, and my entire family plays soccer! so she's been obsessed with it ever since she was a puppy. She's actually gotten lose during soccer games and run onto the field! anyhow, its probably because they're sheep herders, and focus all of their attention on this rolling object.
I think that the reason that your dogs enjoy doing this so much is because they are sheepdogs and love the herd. The ball, especially a soccer ball need to be dribbled to move the correct direction. The dribble is sorta like their herding. Because they are eyeing the ball and thinking of how they should move it. When Venus saw the ball, she stared right at it with that Border Collie stare and she was nelt down like she were herding. I feel weird telling you information since your like the pro.
my dog does this too!! and she's a lovely American Field Labrador!! and getting a red and white B.C. male :) hopefully tri-colour they're beautiful... i also tought my Labby how to bow with your technique worked!! :D
My BC also loves a soccer ball. I had to get him interested in the frissbee but he is a natural with the soccer ball. He loves it so much that I had to break him a while ago of ringing a bell that he does when he has to go to the bathroom that he started ringing just as an excuse to play with the ball that I would kick around with him after he used the bathroom.
I am glad to see your dogs with a soccer ball. I have been trying to find a ball that my border collie couldn't pop and the soccer ball maybe the answer.
I too will be looking for more videos from you on what to do with a soccer ball.
Hey Zak, My dog absolutely loves a soccor ball, but her favorite is her basket ball! She loves to toss it in the air with her nose, and roll it to me. It's a herding thing...she's and English Shepherd. I'm trying to think up some tricks with it, so can't wait to see more that you and your dogs do with a ball! Have fun.
Hi Zak! The way your dogs are playing with this soccerball just shows that they have a great herding instinct. Here in Germany there is a dogsport that became quit popular in the herding dog scene about 2 jears ago where the dog has to "herd a big gymnastics ball". I don't know if this sport is popular in the US too. The dogs do it exactly the same way as your dogs, just the ball is much bigger. It is for dogs with a great herding instinct and owners how have no sheep.
Hi Zak! This is Mike (Max's Dad). I and Grace miss Venus very much. She is a genius. Max sprained his left foot seriously while we are doing delay vault.
So cute! You should teach them to hit it in the air to each other, that would be awesome!!
My 1 year old Mini Aussie loves playing with a soccer ball too. She's just not as "intense" about it as your dogs are, but she always tries to keep it away from my 4 year old Great Pyrenees mix. It looks funny when she won't let him play with it because she's only 23lbs and he's 70lbs. lol
Honestly, my dog does the same thing, but with a basketball. She really wanted to play with the ball, but since she couldn't get it in her mouth she rolled it to me with her nose. Now we got out in the back yard and play "basketball soccer".
My BC also loves footballs, as they are called in the rest of the world. You can also try Volleyballs, they are about the same size but a bit lighter, which is nicer when they hit your nose.
lol uno liked the soccer ball i got him too. it was great....until he popped it from catching it in the air so many times. lol. guess i should get him a new one. lol. they're only $4 at wal-mart.
I wonder if you could get your trio to bounce the balls to each other instead of just to you. I bet if you set up goals, they would catch on immediately.
Find a long hallway or room. Kick tennis balls or whatever against the far wall. You get a point if you can hit the wall and have the ball come back to you. Fido gets a point if he/she can stop the ball before it hits the far wall. Nobody gets a point if anything else happens. A healthy dog has amazing reflexes and can block a lot of shots at close range.
I believe it! Jesse goes crazy for soccer balls, he can even pop some of them if they have a little leeway =) We should start a team of Soccer playing dogs, now that would be awesome to see =) Venus, Super Nova, and Alpha are just adorable. ~Heather and Jesse~
Actually this stuff is called Treibball in Germany . You can find some videos on youtube about Treibball. It is a new sport used for heerding dogs to keep them sane :)
Hahahaha!!! Well there are plenty of dogs that I know that do love soccer balls...most of them are border collies...the other few are probably labs and pits and some JRTs.
border collies really seem to be into soccer. it usually starts out because they see it rolling somewhere and for some reason it really seems to activate that prey drive and herding instinct even if that border collie is usually well focused. they just NEED to control the thing! after that, they know the ball is just a fun toy and they go crazy for it. my border collie loves soccerballs! i have to make sure to put it up when she is not playing because she gets too focused on it.
I got no idea how you do it, my dog loves playing with balls as well, he just snaps them and hops away! How the heck do you... make 'em actually dribble the ball?
Also, it's just amazing how they respond to your every voice command!
I tried teaching my dog to sit, lay dow, and say hello... so he wouldn't do it until I gave him to smell the food, sometimes he would pretend he's not intrested in the food and just... steal the food of my hand! :(
I think the soccer ball gives new challenges to those dogs....its more than just catch, catch, retrieve, retrieve, catch, retrieve you know what i mean, the dogs actually control it.
Well, anything is possible, and that's how I understand it, g'luck. your dogs are doing good!
