I think that we are already there in the SHTF. Our liberities are gone and so are religious freedoms. The economy is going to hell in a handbasket. Gas is through the roof and no one can afford food. There are no jobs and our leaders in government have tons of money and free healthcare that makes sense. The government is putting everyone on food stamps. Where are we Soviet Russia? North Korea? We are also ranked 47th in the world for Journalistic freedom. We are there now. Wolverines! :)

I believe we're already in SHTF situation... both the manufacturing and construction industries aren't bouncing back quickly, putting many hard working Canadians out of work... many jobs that once paid well are being farmed out to temporary job agencies at minimum wage prices, and the costs of necessities just keeps going up, and up and up... fuel, utilities, food, insurances, etc, etc, etc... SHFT has already started, time to take it seriously and get prepared as the situation grows worse!

Although I am Canadian and an ineligible for this contest, I thought it imperative to voice a view of SHTF from a northern neighbour... I don't believe our country's folk have come to take preparing for SHTF as seriously as our southernly neighbours... we have more and more Canadians becoming aware of "homesteading", living off-grid and becoming self-reliant, but with rising costs, job losses and a slow economic regrowth, most just go with the flow believing it's just going to get better...

I think that the SHTF when the Economy goes down the drain....either when fuel goes up to a price that most ppl cant afford to fill up the car....for me that is $6 a gallon...that would be the max...we live 45 min from everything LOL. that would also make trucking cost jump. Or it could be the value of the dollar taking a nose dive when we arn't the world currancy anymore....So I would say Economic collapse is what i think will cause the S to HTF. Wow its hard to belive its been a year already!

I am most concerned about our food source. That in the future, food and water will become more scarce and thus extremely expensive. A combination of high oil prices and unfavorable weather plus something else is all it would take to drive up the cost.

As a person who is about a year and a half away from retirement I am very concerned about social security. As we first rouind of baby boomers start to retire I'm very worried about the demise of social security. If that happens I'm sure the S will HTF.

Happy Anniversary!! I think the cause of SHTF is the people. Mankind has forgotten how to be self reliant and care for themselves.  People have the government do too much for them and that increases the need for more. Like a sponge to water, it can only hold so much liquid before it can't hold anymore. Government programs, like welfare, food stamps, bailouts and government grants for businesses to go oversees. The explosion of over extending will be the cause of SHTF for sure. God Bless!

My view of SHTF will be within a year after the 2012 election. Cause is an avalanche of problems & issues not limited to: government buyouts of companies and people, ginormous debt ceiling, moral decline in our culture & society combined with economic & moral collapse in other parts of the world.

My grandma always said that when there's a huge boom in baby boys, then a war is about 20 years off, and all we've had in our area for the past 5 years are boys, 5 to 1 with girls... Hi! Not entering since I live overseas, but I still wanted to say thanks for all videos you have made and Happy YT Anniversary. Oh, and my belief about what will cause the STHF is panic over widespread disease. There are all sorts of other things that can cause it, but people do panic when they fear a virus very quickly. Other things, I think are just things that simmer the pot, but don´t boil it over fast enough to cause global panic. But, time will tell! :)

I think Iran will be the cause of shtf. I hate to say it but I think there will be a war with Iran. Oil embargo is going to break the World banking system and shtf will be the result!

I will also have to make a video review, but I want to let you know the reason on why i think shtf will happen is the 1) Economy and 2)Perhaps something as big as a solar flare. The reason why is because I work for a technology advanced company and find that our networks have become very unstable with the solar flares going as well as the economy because no matter how much everyone says it's getting better i believe it will take a long time for it to recover.

There won't be a SHTF event in 2012 (except if Greece defaults on their payment on 3/20 or Iran blocks the Strait of Hormuz or we actually do get an X-class CME event and the grid drops). Problem: People's dependancy on modern technology. SHTF: solar flare storm. It could cause a cascade of failures that would sweep across the world, cutting power to 130 million people or more in this country alone. Impacts would be felt on interdependent infrastructures with potable water distribution affected within several hours; perishable food/medications lost in 12-24 hours; immediate loss of heating/air conditioning, sewage disposal, phone service, transportation, fuel resupply...etc

You know, people talk of SHTF like its going to be an EVENT, like 911 or Katrina, that can be shown over and over on TV. I rather think of SHTF as a slow downward spiral towards an eventual collapse. So in some ways, I think its already here. Its certainly here if youre one of the many who have become unemployed and youre running out of benefits. So I don't think its "Will there be a collapse?" as much as "Are we collapsing?", and sadly the answer has to be "Yes". Will I survive? Also YES!

I believe petroleum prices will cause the SHTF ...Many people are now doing without because of gas prices..All products on the market use the price of gas to justify raising prices.And when prices go up and wages do'nt-People will do drastic things they never thought they would.Just what would a man do if his wife and children were starving.I prep because i would rather have extra food and not need it,than to need it and not have it. I think the SHTF will come about through a series of events. I think the economy will keep struggling and people will feel the stress from that. I think either a natural disaster or an extended period of bad weather will spark an event for which most people have not prepared. I think in our weakened state the "terrorist" countries will either directly attack the united states or will draw us into another conflict outside the US. I think Iran or Dictator Chavez will be involved. 1-10-12 THX

I think it will be economic martial law followed by martial law on the streets/highways that will be what brings about SHTF. It will start with the much needed austerity measures which will hit those hurting financially the hardest, followed by entitlement checks stopping, general work strikes leading to shortages, bank runs/currency collapse, war with Iran will be a preceeding detractor.
