i had this on PC ..such awesome memories. i sort of blame it for turning me into a weirdo . but wow.. i finished this many times and took real joy in the story
I'm tempted to say that this is the most overlooked videogame in terms of soundtrack. Not to mention the game on its own. A fantastic game in every aspect. But the music is really stunning and it sets the atmosphere really well. All I need is to hear those tablas and I'm on Dune. I really really really really really loved my childhood and I have things like Dune to thank for it. And you to thank for letting me relive it. :)
those animations of the cd version worked fine for me even over network with lantastic in my 286 time. wonderfull game with wonderfull adlib / midi music !
This brings back so many awesome memories of being eleven years old and sneaking out of bed after my parents had gone to sleep to play this game. Thanks for uploading it!
i had this for sega cd back in the day , stayed up till like 6 am durin the summer to play this all nite and when i looked out my window the sky was deep blue , the sun not up yet but just enough to turn the black purple nite sky into cobalt . i took a few mins to stretch in bed and was listenin to the music from this game playin as my orni just sat there in the desert and i wondered if there any planets like dune somewhere out there
One of the best game ever! I played this as a young teen and i remember being so afraid of going into the desert... that skull animation still haunt me today
it's funny, i've tried modernizing the soundtrack for this game many times, and it never sounds as good as the original, the synthetic sounds just fit so well to the whole dune theme in my opinion. If someone say this soundtrack is outdated i will strongly disagree.
Dont bother with the real Spice Opera soundtrack. it contains tracks that arent worth it. Ecolove, chani's theme are up to par with the game soundtrack or slightly better. Rest is sub-par.
@heikkint I agree, music from the game is more special and i would even say that it's lyrical :)
The Spice Opera makes this original melodies almost trivial - there is cheap climat of 80s disco or some Harlequin-like ost. Not worth listening, beats reminds me my neighbours' fathers synthezator-band in early 90s xD
Yup. Couldnt have found better words myself to describe this. Spice Opera is from 1992. Come on people, tubular bells and vangelis is not the hot kid in the streets anymore. Afraid it has not taken time lightly.... However this game tune still rocks!. All kudos to Stephan for the original work though.
This amazing music is available on the Spice Opera album that I believe he released. It has higher quality tracks that the game and the 2nd song has "Spice Opera" said over it too, a very worthwhile OST!
The song from 07:23 til the end - I have been after this amazing song for years!!!! What is it called and where can I (ahem) find it?? Thanks for this video!!
Hey Garudoh, just wanted to sincerely thank you because if it weren't for your amazing play lists, i would never have even heard of such great music, especially this one!!! Stéphane Picq is absolutely amazing! Never played this game, but wow, this music really takes you somewhere else. I am extremely happy that you have this on your play list, and that your play list even exists!
Hey man, thanks for the message. I always like to see people enjoying my stuff, but making them discover something new is the proverbial cherry on top.
Stephane has such a great, distinct sound to his work, I only wish there was more of it out there. If you really like this entry, I recommend you check out the one I did for MegaRace. It's also by Stephane, somewhere in the 290's (291 I think?).
As for this game, it's one of my favorite PC soundtracks ever. Chani's Eyes is straight up godly.
Now imagine being 8 years old with a wild imagination. This game has always blown my mind, and the music is still my favorite music even now. But yeah you posted this 2 years ago so I don't expect a reply. :P
Ahhh! The nostalgia! This game was first released on floppy disks, shortly it was released as one of the first pc games on cd-rom with a beautiful bonus soundtrack cd. Thank you for putting this on YT!
never played the game in the old days. but did try it out a couple of years later and loved the music... so and here it is again :D freaking awesome the music
Anyone know where I can get a higher-quality copy of that speech sample at the end? I'm working on a audio collage using video game sounds and other stuff, and that clip would be perfect for it.
One of my personal favorites. I just fucking love Dune, whatever medium it is. Books, movies, games, all of them have stayed with me for a long, long time.
The book is brilliant. This game is brilliant. A shame that most people think you are talking about Dune II when you mention the game. Nothing wrong with the RTSs of course, but they are nothing compared to this.
