  • hes so stoned

  • I dig it man, like in birth you got to cut the cord

  • The coolness radiates from him.

  • he is showing the chords a little bit different

  • an amazing player... thank you..

  • Now that we know all of these nice chords...lets us smoke some weed.....I have just fallen asleep with my eyes open and funked all over myself.

  • I like how you numbered the guitar neck. That really helps. Your playing is very soulful. Reminds me of Jimi playing rhythm. Love it.

  • cool (Y)

  • Ok..all valid information, but it was like pulling teeth. Someone needs to get hold of Ross Bolton for some entertaining lessons on here...

  • phone calls,

    good lesson, thanx

  • Hey! that's the guitarist from The FUNKY Meters! :D

  • Is it bad that this guy reminds me of Bubba from Forest Gump?

  • @BadPennyDonnie

    No, it's an advantage.

  • @BadPennyDonnie Haha. thats fantastic.

  • @BadPennyDonnie well i believe Leo Nocentelli is the shriming business now... so no its not i guess :)

  • This dude is a Champ!

  • Isn't this the dude who sings "Funky Cold Medina?"

  • all he is doing here is trying to show you the chords he uses to play funky rhythms. Why all the complaints? I think he is assuming you actually have some modicum of knowledge, to begin with. Seemed pretty succinct in the delivery, to me. This is not for the beginner, more for intermediate players. And for you smart-asses, who comment on his diction: Better get used to it if you area gonna be playing Funk or R&B. Sheeesh....

    Awesome demonstration, bro.

  • what does diction mean?

  • Comment removed

  • Diction actually means choice of words (dictionary)..but in this context , maybe choice of notes or choice of chords!! I guess..

  • You would think some guy making an instructional video could tune his guitar. That G7 was painful to listen to.

  • dayı bence akord bozuk

  • what the fucking chords?

  • nice tutorial, i especially like the players perspective although its rather the perspectiv of a poser kneeling down in front of his audience ;P

  • "michesh om ding chong.." --> "peices of this chords..."

why the hell is he teaching guitars, with a mouthpiece?!

  • good vid, but not the most well spoken teacher

  • Thanks! Very helpful, i got to study this chords...

  • Comment removed

  • he's teaching with a guitar that has numbers inlayed in the fretboard....that's convenient.

  • I loved this guy in The Meters but he sure is a horrible teacher.

  • Well A chord dictionary actually comes in handy when whatching these vids..

anyways jazz and funk chords are the same, the difference lies in the strumming and muting

  • A-11th?!?? dam it... where is my chord dictionary!!!

  • Ok, so I just watched his other 2 videos and ok, they're pretty D*Mn FuNkY. ;0)

  • What was that noise???

...oh that was James Brown turning in his grave!!!

Funk Chords??? I think Jazz chords sir!

My left nipple is more funkier!

02:08 "These chords that you have just saw" lololol... c'mon dude the only thing Funky is YO GRAMMAR!

  • mmmm jazz chord n funk chord are pretty much look alike matter or fact they are pretty much the same lol

  • no lol theres a bunch of added extensions in jazz that make one say "why..."

  • Jazz chords and funk chords are usually interchangeable.

  • Agreed. Chords are always interchangeable.

I use what many call "jazz" chords in blues. When playing a 1-4-5 I use various chords throughout the 16 bars. eg;In "C". For the 1 chord I use the inverted 6th, sort of an Amin7 on the 10th fret..., C6 walk down to C9 (3 middle strings) then hit the 7th before moving to the 4. The 4 consists of F9, F7, B7aug5, Cdim, and so on. For the turn around I use the aug5 chord chromatically down from the 6th to the 5th. I will post something on this.

  • yea this definitely funk....are u kidding me?

  • You've inspired me to become a better player. God bless you for giving free tutors.

  • i like the riff at the first 2 seconds and that was a random endin i don se ehow were spoed to p;ay tat riht after u.

  • aww, i remember the days where i used to lie to myself too, enjoy it as much as you can before reality hits :)

  • amen dude.

  • A real stiff test is whether one can look at oneself in the mirror when pissed. It's a bit scary...

  • what was the last song and how do you do it?

  • lol funky lookin guy.. but he is missing something.. he needs that funky strat!!

  • Hello???

Thats Leo Nocentelli! Obviosly you don't know of which "funky lookin guy" you re talking about. Hi IS one of the funkiest guys. And i think he knows which guitar suits him best...believe me

  • so true!

  • "dese chord dat u have just, see and heard"

    WAT

  • boring

  • FAO Americans: Chords not cords.

  • cords are almost the same , it's the funky groove that makes the diference.

  • well i think that if you are a guitar player and you understand cords , he really doesnt have to say that cords can be move to change pitch.

  • i agree with preto & aussi, the more you stick to the technique the more mechanicall you get, start listening to blues and funk & later to jazz, then you'll start to play something interesting other than borring notes flying by. i think this guy has the funk beat inside and the knowledge to develop it, wich i find really dificult.

  • this guy has a really small mouth... hahhaha

  • funny teacher

  • the notes at the end sounds more blues-like to me

  • you are fucking awsome!!! FUCK

  • In the chords that he plays there are a lot of unplayed notes that he stops becouse he can't do a right barrè... Then, he doesn't say that lot of the cords he do could be moved up and down on the neck to be transported higher or lower (for example the first chord he do)

  • yes he does pay atention

  • Somehow I doubt Leo Nocentelli is playing chords a particular way because "he can't do a right barre."

Barre chords are for rock and roll. Less is more in funk. Most of the time two or three note chords is more than sufficient.

  • Are you watching him or what?? The chords he is doing are made with berrè... Anyway I'm not saying that he isn't a good player, he may has the funk in his blood, but for wath concerned his technic I think it's weak!

  • Technique? You will never be worth shit as a player until you get outside "technique" and develop a style. Barre chords are inappropriate for the examples he's giving. People hung up on technique usually become teachers, not players.

  • If you notice on his 13th chords, he is actually putting in extra notes, which tells me he knows something aobut musical theory. He is adding the 5th into the chord, which isnt needed for the ear to resolve this chord to the 13th.

His technique is up there with players ive seen playing for 30 and 40 years professionally, so when you have done the same, then you can critisize.

  • reading teleprompter

  • If I were not a guitar player I wouldn't understand anything... This video could be made better...

  • Why would you be concerned about understanding this video if you WEREN'T a guitarist?

  • I wanted to say that if I didn't know yet those funk chords, if I were a beginner, I wouldn't understand anything...

  • If I were not a guitar player I wouldn't understand anything... This video could be made better...

  • That guitar sound killed me!

  • "these chords you have just saw can be moveable" - priceless

  • looks a little stoned, but v v cool, gonna try these on my keyboard instead =)

  • i dont know, maybe somethings wrong with me, but why do i hear it more like a jazzy-blues chords?

  • chords are the same, the groove that makes them 'funky' ones

  • nice one

  • Thanks a lot. Great lesson in moveable formation chords.

  • Great guide, awesome guitarist.
