@blackamoor009, its no shock $ is your concern...but accomplishment??? well, still to this day in the hearts & minds of many the spirit of the march lives on brother for one. the accomplishment is on our shoulder's whether we take it or shrug it off.....repeat after minister: I STATE YOUR NAME!!!!
Farrakhan turnd out & shut down the U.S govt Capital in DC on this day. He shut down all 4 branches of the govt(Congress closed, Senate closed, Supreme court closed, the White Hse got shut down- Pres. Clinton leftd twn & went to Houston). He turnd out that White man House & lefted it black & even had those white folks give it a Muslim name(Obama). He did it with out even bringing a can of paint; now that's BLACK MAGJIC! Whn I got thr frm SF Bay Area & saw over 2mil heads, I was in Shock & AWE!
@Blackamoor009 ..Probably to deal with the inevitable haters, the MMM was the only march I know of to give an independent and public financial audit. You can read it at TinyURL[DOT]com/mmm-audit
@TheLizardKing1967: Among some good was: Following the March, The National Association of Black Social Workers reported a flood of 13,000 new applications to adopt Black children............... 1.5 million Black men registered to vote in the months following the March................... Black social, civic and religious institutions reported sharp membership increases...... It also directly challenged the image of Black men portrayed around the world by mainstream (White) corporate media.
I along with a friend attended this historic gathering on the Washington DC mall, by literally driving none stop from Los Angeles in record time. Words cannot fully express what we witness and part take in on that fateful Oct day in 1995. Yes we made a pledge before the whole world and declared our intention to take ownership of our destiny.
Min Farrakhan pointed us in the right direction, the responsibility now rest upon each and everyone of our shoulder to march on...
while i commend Farrakhan and all the men who appeared at this event, it was unrealistic to think that this would fix the problem of racism that will always exist in our country.
Brothers, We took the pledge.....In front of The Whole World!!!.....Why sit and wait or blame The Hon. Min. for what we haven't done? God blessed us with an opportunity out of his grace, thru Min. Farrakhan, to come to attention and think about what we have/are doing to hold our own people down. The Min. did his job. He cant save us...Its on Us. What have you done since you took the pledge brothers? Ask yourself, Not What has Farrakhan done..He is on his post. But are we? Thank You Min.
@getDun2012 Great way to live up to the spirit of the march there getDun2012. Your kind? what is he a Turnip? what are you? Sheep?
Lekotar it was a chance for one group to come together and try to make a statement... would have been nice had they done more than gone back home, pat themselves on the back and sat on thier couches and waited for others to make the pledge work...
I was there, there were only about 300-500 people actually there. Amazing what a name and the media can do. Some cool zoom in to make it seem as if there was anywhere close to a million people there... right. 300-500 people. I shit you not.
History has shown that the word of a man is only as good as the man that gave it, since I am a man of my word, time has come for me to make good on my Million Man March Pledge that I gave at the Million Marn March on October 16, 1995!-Born to do battle, drafted at birth!-Michael E. McKinzy, Sr.-07-30-2010
ATTENTION BLACK MEN OF AMERICA: Direct all of your focus and energy towards these 5 things & your lives will change for the better very, very quickly: CHURCH, FAMILY, EDUCATION, CAREER & COMMUNITY. Give this a thumbs up if you agree!
@Freethinkersclubuk oh, believe me he is a racist of the lowest rank. The only real difference between him and KKK people, is that the KKK are either more honest about it, or are less intelligent.
I was on that Mall, and took that Pledge, and I have to say, looking back on it nearly 15 years later, that was truly a HUGE event, in the Divine Scheme of things...and I thank Allah(God) for allowing me to be a part of it!! Long Live the Spirit of the Million Man March!!
My 4th grade teacher, Ms. Harris, sent the students home early so that we could catch it on TV before it ended. She didn't want us to miss this historic moment in history.
I made it home a little after 2pm and turned on the television to KTVU (Fox affiliate in the Bay Area).
I saw something I never saw in my life....a Black man speaking on the steps of the Nation's Capital to almost 2 million other Black men.
