  • Also, I wouldnt rev the engine too high when doing that during the initial process, Ive herd storys of engine problems and component burnouts..just my 2cents

  • Hahaha I think I herd a lil kid coughing from the smoke.....can someone say child services???

    LMAO j/p

  • holy crap. the first time you started it up, it was just black smoke

  • Am I wrong in the assumption, but can't this seriously damage your catalytic converters?

I don't have an RX8, so please cut me some slack. :\

  • @Ferrariman601 Yeah it can... :) The key word there is "can". Doesn't mean it will, just that there's a risk of it occurring. I've only done it once, at around 25M miles, which was 10,000 miles ago, and I haven't had any cat problems.

  • hey man, nice rx8, i own a late 2004 black rx8 gt, and i've been wanting to seafoam my car as well, but I can't seem to find a very good DIY on it for rx8. Is it possible you can tell me how to seafoam my rx8? Or if you got it off from a website you can possibly message me the link? thaks

  • @bludika Hey thanks, almost got a black myself, but I wanted the keyless entry and keyless start :P 2006 was the first year they added that, and lo and behold, a brand spankin new 2006 VR RX-8 on the dealer lot called to me. :D

There's a big thread about decarbing on RX8Club.com, but youtube isn't letting me post the link right now. Search there using "seafoam". I'll email you the link too.

  • @iomag k i got your link, it seems pretty long, is it hard to do even if you follow the guide? i'm not experienced with under the hood maintenance other than changing the air filter and oils or fluids.

  • @bludika if you want to decarb the shutter valve and such look at the intake manifold. you will see to tits with rubber plugs on them. that is where you inject the mazda cleaner or what have you into the rotors. the procedure is you crank the motor with your foot floored to shut off the injectors while injecting the cleaner at the same time and thats it. and by the way that smoke is nothing when you deflood an rx8

  • I have an 04 rx8. Did u put something in the gas ti cause that

  • @rbrtp To cause what? The smoke? That's just the carbon deposits that the Seaform broke down that are buring off.

  • ahh ok, just wondering if you had a CEL before you did the decarb. Did you record the PCM error code? If not, no worries. I was just curious. But great video. Now i know to wear a mask and goggles :)

  • What did you do the decard for? Did you get a CEL? What code were you trying to clear out?

  • @fc3szenki Most engines develop carbon build up over time. I've done this on other cars, although the procedure varies slightly from car to car. This was done to get rid of some of that, to improve engine performance. I did get a CEL after the procedure was done, but it went out after about 1 day. That, on this engine at least, is considered normal.

  • And no, there was no CEL before I did this.

  • Do you have spacers on the rear wheels, if yes then what type?

  • @123cease123 Good eye, I do :)

    Eibachs: rear, 25mm. part# E27904250211. front 20mm. part# E27904200051.

They give a cleaner look with the stock rims. I have 245/40R18 Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta XLs mounted. A tad noisy, but grip nicely, and 245/40 add to the clean look.

Had to drill recesses in the stock rims with forstner bits with the 20mm spacers so the hub studs would fit. That also means that when you rotate your rims.. you gotta do the same to the rims that were on the rears.

  • 4:48 perfect smoke ring lol

  • 1:31 you get the kids coughing haha

  • I love seafoaming videos of Rx-7's and Rx-8's. Especially the older ones that have all that carbon and oil built up in there rotors. I have that problem too, when I seafoam a car all the neighborhood kids come out and then there pissed off mothers right afterwards.

  • how about now any problems

  • @denzelh18 No, none... Car's now in storage in my garage for the winter..

  • lmao @4:00 there were little smoke rings that shot out when it backfired a little XD

  • @02: Neighborhood kids. Like 15 of them hanging around, eyes wide, plus disapprovng parents glaring my way. I did this on July 4th. You'd think all the white smoke would be welcome ha!

@Denzel I'm now at around 29,000 miles. So, 4,000 miles later, no "problems" at all. Smooth as can be. That oil slick on the ground is from my '94 Ford Probe GT: It usually sits in the driveway ... and leaks transmission fluid.

  • any problems yet

  • were thoes your kids? haha
