I had one and it was a terrible pet! in the space of a week it ate an angelfish, a spiny peacock eel, an aquatic frog, a female fighter, destroyed all of my live plants and remodelled the tank decor! It was then quickly given away to another aquarists shop! Dont buy one if you keep other slow moving fish and plants!!!
I have a blue lobster with 3 mollies, used to be 23 he eat the rest when they were babies. He got used to these three, not eating them, when he is hungry, he extend his body on the glass, so I will see him, extending his claws towards the top. He got used to be fed when he is asking for food. I fed him every 2-3 day, as I was told in a aquantic shop. But since he molted 2 times, he is very gready, now wants to eat sometimes 2-3 portions in a day, in a row!
@colinsjunkbin LOL! That's funny, 'cause that's where I got MY blue crayfish! It was a PetLand in Iowa, though. Yep, it's a crayfish. Lobsters have large, flat disk/shaped claws, and crayfish have long skinny ones.
As said before, a crayfish/lobster will try to eat any fish it can grab hold of. Cray's are best left in tank on their own in my experiences. If you have anything else in the tank with the cray, the cray will hide a lot of the time.
i've got 8 different gourami in my tank with my lobster and it doesnt do anything but hide. in my experiance as long as the gourami is bigger than the lobster it should be fine
Did you just get the cray recently? Those eggs could hatch if you just got it from a store and it was kept with a male cray. If you've had it for a while, then no, those eggs shouldn't hatch. I'm not sure if they lay eggs without a mate, but I do know they breed quite easily (if they don't kill each other first)..... O_o
Crays are scavengers generally, but they are also very opportunistic feeders as well... Meaning if they can catch it or grab it, they will eat it. The only fish I've ever kept with my cray are ones that were deformed or needed to be culled for other reasons (they become cray-food when he catches them, sometimes over night, other times it may take months for the fish to be caught).
question: my blue crayfish has eggs on its tail. does that mean shes goig to have babies? there are no othe lobesters in the tank and we bought the lobster in august. so will the eggs hatch?
hey can you please tell me if the foliage in your tank is real or artificial? cause I've had problems having crayfish together with real aquatic plants. thanks.
Not sure what you're referring to, but either way, no. I've only ever kept malaysian trumpet snails with the cray. If you're looking at the thing on the far right of the tank where the wafer lands, that's a half of a coconut shell...
THe plants are all real, but they don't last long. Cray's love to rip up and eat plants. I just replanted his tank a month ago and at this moment there isn't a single plant left; not even java moss or crypt's.....
Nope.. The fish is a very young dwarf cichlid; Apistgramma cacatuoides (aka Triple Red Cockatoo Cichlid). This one had a deformity which is why it's with the cray..... Natural selection...
I got a lobster yesterday and left it for 5 mins while i got juice and when i came back my apple snail was gone! i think im gonna put it in a different tank :/
the big no mix crustation is the malasian prawn which i used to have they are one that u never want to mix as they will try to clear your tank out i will post some pics if i can still find them
the mixing crayfish and other fish is ok i have a mixed tank with a large crayfish in it and i have no problems at all if u dont believe me check my videos i have had a mixed tank for about 3 years and the only fish i have ever lost to the crayfish was a tiger barb that was on his last legs anyway he got in a fight with one of my chichlids and lost an eye and got a few battle scars then he just swam in circles like mad so a few days later the cray fish ate him
Not really. THat looks like a Cobalt, but the knight blue are really SLOW and cant catch fish so if you have fish I would go with the KNIGHT BLUE instead of the cobalt.
it's really bad over here in the UK for keeping Blue crayfish, only one species the Cherax quadricarinatus are allowed, others are illegal and punishable by a fine or prison no less!!!
I'm getting one, just dunno where to begin lol
they are beutiful though, although i always decied on no fish, as they eat and snap at other fish like grumpy old men
Yes, any cray will eat other fish if they can catch them. That is why I bought this cray in the first place. I used to breed fish (apistogramma cacatuoides, aka triple red cockatoo dwarf cichlids). Any deformed fry have to be culled/killed and I preferred the food-chain method as opposed to by my hand....
you telling me..I put a crab in my aquarium 2 years ago. it ate a patty, clipped the fins of my angelfish, ate my kuhli loach, moved decor around, ate all plants
So i put him in my goldfish pond & 3 months later he had disapered
I have quite a few fish and they are fine with the crayfish. My cory cat hangs out in the "lobster cave." The crayfish definitely disposes of corpses of fish that die of natural causes. I did lose a few rummy nose tetras but don't know if the crayfish picked them off or if they were sick from something else. No other fish has fallen prey and I have neons, angles, cory cat, simensis, clown loaches, mollies, gambusia, black skirts.
That was cool how he emerged from that foliage like a beast. Darnit I want one, I have ghost shrimp but they are boring. Love that color, do they come in other colors too and is that your only one?
They're best kept alone as they'll canibalize each other. He is my only one. To my knowledge they come in blue (equivalent of albino form) and red (natural colour).
wish mine would do that, you have to manually put the thing in front of it or else it wont get it... see mine likes to stay in its ship and never come out. Its molted twice now since ive got it. Right before its first molt his antenni got shorter and havent grown back, will they grow back to there normal length?
man, they're so pretty. I'd love to see a tank with several electric blue lobsters, mixed in with dwarf blue gouramis, or some guppies with hints of blue, or even blue streak neon tetras, or even a blue beta fish. and then maybe throw in some orange fish for contrast, like bright orange sword tails. But if i were to keep it minimalist, it would be two lobsters, and three blue dwarf gouramis.
was it this blue when you bought it?
