  • The most legato promenade I have ever heard

  • Gnomus is the music that Marty used for his dance quintet at Crane Jackson's Fountain Street Theatre.

  • This is brilliant!

  • Thumbs up if Animusic 2 brought you here... xD

  • after listening to this my 7th grade band sounds like crap :(

  • Best part is after 2:10, the conductor is awesome!

  • JUST LOVELY!!!

  • Has any one noticed that all the people playing are old

  • @izadeeg No, they are experienced :)

  • @izadeeg No, they are experienced :)

  • I'm not sure if you mean the conductor is working with this orchestra for the first time, or reading the score sheets the first time or maybe both. Lovely venue, and orchestra. Very nice all the way around. It would be nice to be sitting there watching the rehearsal.

  • This is good idea with birds in background

  • What a majestic and dramatic piece. Bravo! Well played! Excellent conducting! Great sound, despite the stray noises made by orchestra members, although I kind of liked the birds chirping during the silences. (The mic picked up everything!) My only wish is that we could see more of the orchestra.

  • Hey dude. I finally found my venue.

  • 4:18 nice effect :)

  • Dreamt about this song last night. Found it!

  • every time i hear this piece, it reminds me of the landlord in the big lebowski doing his routine on stage. :)

    what a movie :)

  • Mussorgsky is one of the greatest musical geniuses ever. He was only at his time, ignoring every form and rule of connection between his themes and modulation logic, but still being able of making exceptionnal harmonies and creating a virtuoso composition and playing. Bravo!

  • Mesmerizing. Euphoric.

  • 2011 All-State OMEA Orchestra Audition Excerpt starts at about 2:00

  • Civ Rev is the first time i heard this but i found out the name from my teacher, very beautiful music!

  • my music teacher played this piece for us in class and I was like MUST HEAR AGAIN

  • Impressive

  • Mussorgsky was about the only Composer I know of that could over dramatize a piece, and make it work. I'm not sure about "quintessentially russian" as I think that still goes more to Rimsky-Korscov with his beautiful capturings of Russian folk lore.

Mussorgsky love the drama, and love to over dramatize his pieces, but his skill let him do that and still end up with such beautiful and powerful compositions.

  • Somebody shoot that bird.. >.>

  • where's the credit to ravel?

  • this really helped m play the song in band

  • it's about the millionth time that it is performed with an orchestra, and this time it was also good.

  • an excellent clip of a young singaporean conducting Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition jefflow1986

This is also had me tears

  • does the young Singaporean conductor have a name?

  • Mussorgsky, Mozart. Who cares who is best, they blow these so called "musicians" of our day out of the water.

  • @bw01a mozart only really used chord 1 and 5 and made boring classical period music...

  • Dirección magistral

  • OK>>>>>>

  • It's better than Mozart!

  • @mikan340 Mozart and Mussorgsky wrote music in different musical epokes. So you can´t compare the two of them.

  • @Aidtox So what that they wrote music in different musical epokes? I can like Mussorgsky more than Mozart, who I really like, but when I first time heard Mussorgsky I fall in love with his music

  • In skl I'm playing this. I play percussion but I love when the trombones do that thing that sounds like pecking. It's so cool.

  • This piece is just so beautiful and peaceful. Its weird becuz Im only in sixth grade and I love this orchestra music. I play the cello and I played an easier version of the promenade and the the great gate of kiev

  • Does anyone know what orchestra this is?! This is superb! Kudos especially to the trumpet soloist!... BEAUTIFUL!

  • im in 8th grade and we played this...awesome song

  • I REALLY need to see more from him. Please! Who is he? Is there any more material here on you tube?

  • Amazing music. Kinda sounds like it should be in a Western or something.

  • @bones86 Eargasm would have been a nice term to use... :D

  • I try posting one more time: Truly a beautiful piece should be used for some great MOVIE, chilling to the bone. Help me by the words, "Reading Mussorgsky's Pictures??" Not familiar with term. OH musians that are truly gifted that have a conductor like this magnificent being, WILL SOUND GREAT FIRST TIME (roalie17) AROUND. :-))))) Thank Dear Jarda for shareing and for the POSTER, without your posting, My dear friend could not have shared this Gem with me, SO THANKS TO YOU Too. :-)

  • it means that the conductor is reading mussorgkys "pictures at an exhibition" the musical tablature, not actual pictures, for the first time. they simply shortened the full name of the piece. english can be confusing in translation. i hope this helps:)

  • Thanks so much for explaining. I know how confusing the english language can be many times.I talk myself into trouble all the time with a Beautiful-soul from the UK. He really has a great chuckle because my use of my own Native-tongue. :-) Peace and love for your kindness. <3 U for your sharing knowledge with me. I love learning.:-) I got to also replay this lovely tune. :-)

  • you're quite welcome, i went off to listen to toccata in d fugue after this, i am on a classical kick lately. enjoy the wonderful arts :) next will probably be swan lake and then green sleeves.

  • Hail Baccus!

  • First time? WOW! Maybe I'll see him in concert sometimes in the future!

  • this could not be for the first time. It was WAAAYYY to good!

  • @roalie17 My comment above I should have clicked on to your name, so Read my reply. :-) Peace and Love comes your way. This truly is divine, and played by very gifted musicians. :-)))))

    GianLuca from Italy. (piano player)

  • awesome, just beautiful piece of music

  • This is very good. Now, not to be a suck-up, it's a rather simple arrangement.

  • you listen to the original piano score of the first promenade - and it's simple too... the last promenade is fuller

  • knows that piece very well.

    nice conducting / interpretation.

    nice piece / orchestra.

    thanx

  • Yes, you're god (Y)

  • This masterpiece is best played with an open window in the background ......

  • interesting comment

  • nicely played

  • this is so goddamn awesome

  • I love it :) What's his name? He will probably be on important albums soon.

  • Beautifully played. :) I remember hearing this a long time ago and hearing it played this well brings me back.

  • It is a favourite of mine...never heared it live...I love the cheaping birds in the back ground...made it all more real,,

  • I've loved hearing this music ever since it was played in Princess TuTu. I have to say that this is the best rendition of this peice that I have ever heard! It's beautifully played!

  • a conductor with potential!

  • Good acoustics

  • very very very good orchestra!

  • magnificent

  • They are REALLY good!

  • Every time I hear this piece, it reminds me of my old Atari computer. Good times, great rendition.

  • wow this is beautiful... good job guys

  • im doing that trumpet solo bit at the start next week :D im grade 8 trumpet :)

  • You can always tell the sound of Mussorgsky, he's so quintessentially russian, long grand notes as wide as the russian steppe. Excellent piece.

  • my favorite version is Eugene Ormandy, Philadelphia orchestra on LP. It brings the soul out, especially after smoking a few bowls you can see Russia much closer than Sarah Palin ever imagined. Trust me on this.

  • this is russian piece, winter piece, forest piece, mental visual ejaculation piece. you must see the moving city as you move past the paintings. up down up down, not down down, up up. Smoke smoke puff puff, you will see the correct pause. The correct city and winter gathering.

  • Oh man... maybe less big movements and more expression... show some dynamics and make sure ur beat pattern is easty to follow... i know sometimes phrasal conducting is called for... try to balance the baton in ur fingers.... and neverrrr use ur left hand instead of ur right hand to conduct... left hand is for cueing and dynamics... not showing the beat while the right hand does nothing... good job though.... keep up the good work and u will go far... much potential!!!!

  • very good

  • Come on, I've seen much worse. The performance didn't suffer. I've seen a lot less clear professional conductors.

  • great. first musical piece i learnt at school. i absolutely hated music lessons especially classic music, but this one always struct a cord with me. thanks for posting.

  • very popular trumpet excerpt for orchestral auditions. i'm playing this for my jury in college

  • Yes... they always ask that excerpt...in everywhere in the world.

  • lol it sounds like someone dropped or snapped their bow at 4:25

  • AWESOME!!

  • Well done!

  • Wow, it's just beautiful. I listened to this song played on piano, but this orchestra version is plain awesome. Thanks for the upload

  • Great I love the song

  • I love it too.. it's gorgeous...

  • WOW!!

This could be better than the Proms version!

  • what a beauty :)

  • I play trumpet so this piece is a bonus to me.

  • nooot bad :P play this on piano

  • id love to b a conductor like this guy :D

excelent techniquie both the conductor and orchestra <3

  • I am playing this on the saxophone at the moment and it sounds way better when they do it!!

  • hey same, your right it does sound better with the brass '_'

  • dfdfdf

  • ddsdsd

  • me gusta mas como suena así, se oye mejor que la version para piano. Hay mas sonoridad.

  • woohoo go trumpet! wonderful sound!

  • the conductor's patterns are so advance

  • WOW the Trumpet solo player in this version is so talented!!

  • Absolutely amazing!!!! Best I have ever heard the Trumpet solo played!

  • Extremely impressive! Flawless technique and a great interpretation as well, I particularly liked how the brasses were singing rather than blasting (as most orchestras do) in the opening. The choice of tempo was good too, broad but not overly draggy :)
