Nothing worse than trying to ad-lib on an already great script. It's an insult to the playwrite. It's never as funny as you think it is. And in this case it wasn't funny at all.
That is your opinion and you are welcome to it. I, personally, think it was very funny- as did many of the audience members, clearly, from the laughter heard in the clip. But thank you for your thoughts.
Productions always try to have an entire chorus of extras instead of 3 Proteans (as written), and it never works as well. And the FIDDLER adlib is completely incongruous and tasteless. As Senex would say, "Shame, shame, shame."
It's just a highschool musical! no need to give such harsh criticism for people under the age of 18 putting on the show! And so what if the adlibs are tasteless, isn't the point to make the audience laugh? It's what he did and he did it well through the entire show. I don't appreciate the point of view you're using on these clips.
I'm not crazy about the Fiddler reference either (and I'm not calling it an "ad-lib" because it was clearly planned for - the pit had the music ready for it.) However, it's worth pointing out that particular musical has historically been a "forum" (pun intended) for ad-libbing. Zero Mostel did (reportedly to the delight of audiences and aggravation of the script writers and fellow company members) and so did Nathan Lane (with more generosity toward the rest of the cast. Again, reportedly.)
umm im NOT gay (i played hysterium) i dnt even speak like that normally i was told my voice was to bold so i had to tone it down and sound shaky all the time lol
I saw this at the Florida Rep a few weeks ago, it was SOOOO funny, they had 3 guys play all the extras like the gaurds and the sailors, ohhh god it was so funny i almost peed.
my school did a spoof of this play it was called "A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Collesseum" forgive me if i spelled something wrong i cannot spell
Hah its pretty funny opening night for us is tommorow personally i think our runnig seen is funnier its only 3 soldiers and when ever Psdelous turns around they play patty cake or search for ants and have funny faces on
omg that was hillarius! My highschool put on that play a few monthes ago, i was a Panacia (they made it a double part x.x. i looove the referances to reality TV shows, that's possibly one of the best things i've ever seen xD! double thumbs up from me <3
It's illegal to change the script and claim you that you wrote it. The theatre in my county did this play and I was in it. Was great. Love the intro and concluding songs. Was a eunich :(
I would advise so. Usually when one rents scripts, the school signs a contract stating that they won't change the scripts in any way. Obviously this rarely matters as secret agents don't pop up in every highschool production to scout for this, but still.
Ive seen this play several times, and each time something was changed. Its one of those plays that can be changed to keep up with modern culture and trends.
this is hilarious!
the survivor/project runway references r soo funny and that fiddler part was perfect! lol jood job!

Very clever, but I do believe it's illegal to change the script, is it not?

I've no idea, actually. I'd assume if it was broadway or something larger than a simple highschool play, but it's still something to check up on =]
