  • music that is proper for the 40's and the 80's you dont see that very often

  • This configuration would make a terrific sport aircraft,...it could easily work out in a slightly smaller single-engine arrangement, I think.

  • We will be flying The N9M at the Planes of Fame Air Museum's Airshow 2011,

May 14th and 15th, 2011. The Planes of Fame Air Museum airshow is held at the at Chino Cal Aero Field, Chino, california.

  • somebody told me jack northrop was a dumbass next to clarence k johnson.I dont believe this

  • @IwontConform In 1929, Northrop had Avion built an all-wing aircraft. Northrop 1ST flying wing project, Northrop had decided to go all out for powered flight. Wingspan 30' 6" + featured 90 horsepower Monasco 4-cylinder air-cooled engine inside wing.

1ST flight at Muroc Dry lake (Now Edwards Air Force Base) in 1929. Design quickly proved it had easy handling qualities, performed extremely well + proved Northropp was First Successful Swept Flying Wing in the world 16 years ahead of Germans.

  • the wing is the way to go,the Hortens knew it,Jack Northrop knew it,thanks to fly by wire they became safe to fly.

  • Two awesome airplanes! I got to see the N9M-B fly at the Chino Airport (home of the Planes of Fame Air Museum - where it is based) So cool. It is comical with its big wheels on the ground, but beautiful in the air! I think it is so cool that they cleared Jack Northrop to see the B-2 plans before he passed away! Jack Northrop - one of this country's great aviation geniuses!

  • This is a very interesting machine. I have an idea how it goes up and down but the big question for me is, how does it turn? Can anyone answer that please?.

  • when was this video taken?

A good German is a dead German :P

  • B-2 Bomber the greatest bomber ever made thanks to some of the plans from Jack Northrops design XB-35 then later on the YB-49 which was jet powered. Jack Norhtrop at 80 years old or so was pushed in his wheel chair to a secret area and shown a large model of the B-2 Stealth Bomber during the building stages, his hands shook from having ms and tears came to his eyes and he said....now I know why god kept me alive so long....

  • Jack Northrop was a man way ahead of his time. When he was an old man he was shown a model of the B2 bomber before it went into production. He was said to have held the model and just grin. He knew he was right all along. I wonder if he lived long enough to see the first on fly. Jack Northrop American legend

  • @Hardcorediver44 No Jack died in February 1981. The first B-2 took flight in July 1989. He did however get to see some of the assembly line in Pico. Plamdale was not yet complete which is where final assembly was done and where I worked till 1994

  • @Hardcorediver44 If you look at the designers of the DC-3,...you'll see that Jack Northrop was responsible for designing the wing of that plane.

  • @Hardcorediver44 : I couldn't imagine how much formidable would be a Jack Northrop and Nikola Tesla tandem...

    Just imagine the possibilities.

  • The Northrop Flying Wing prototype is just amazing. Built in 1942 it just has to be the cleanest flying machine this side of the Horton brothers-northrop had designs flying before 1942

  • I heard that just before Mr. Northrup died, Reagan had them take him into the hangar to see his dream had come true. Not even he had known of the B-2's configuration. He said that this is why God had kept him alive so long,to see this plane become reality. How wonderful an act was this! Pure Ronald Reagan. He wanted this patriot to see his visions of the future had come true before he left us.

  • @nomadnametab Check out wikipedia's entry on him. Supposedly, he was too sick to speak. But, I wasn't there.

  • Ah, the video would have just fine without the music.

  • why was this not made into a fighter plane in the war of that time? it could have been the first stealth aircraft in history.

  • what but this is the b2 spirit just a different model right? and the b2 spirit is a stealth aircraft

  • The N9M-B was 1 of 4 of the type built with the 4th plane carring the larger Franklin engines ( B model) vs. the first 3 carring the smaller Menasco engines. The 60ft. 1/3rd scale N9M was designed for researching the building of a full size (172 ft.) bomber on an Army Air Corp contract from Gen. Hap Arnold. Aeronautical data was gleened from these planes to advance the designs and confirm those specs. All the time was dedicated to bomber design and upscaling , not for a fighter.

  • Radar showed a much smaller cross section of the N9M than conventional planes at certain angles. Not till the YB-35 Jet Wing was there a hugh reduction in radar signature ( no propellers or long fusalage or tail ). Head on, the plane was very hard to see and reduced surface area cut radar return drasticly. This was indeed why the Flying Wing design was retained. Speed and payload were the priority in WW2 but decades later, stealth has the No.1 spot on the list.

  • @scwtrials that was the YB49 jet, the XB35 was a prop-job.

  • @OPE08 scwtrials- Yes, you're right ; I stand corrected. Thanks for catching my typo !

  • Great video! Would you mind letting me know what the make and model of your video camera is? The quality is just excellent. Thanks!

  • WHAT IS THIS CONTRAPTION! ITS ALIVE!

  • The Northrop Flying Wing prototype is just amazing. Built in 1942 it just has to be the cleanest flying machine this side of the Horton brothers. Flat spins were the undoing of the final 4 engine versions.

  • @MGB1977 on Google Images type "1929 Northrop "Flying Wing". Northrop All Metal Gas Combustion Engine 1ST Succesful Powered Flying Wing that Flew in 1929 + 16 years ahead of Nazis. Its painted yellow + there R 2 versions,1929 is yellow + a smaller wing + has a star painted on the wing click on it. Northrop 1929 Flying Wing was 1ST powered flight. Beware of Nazi-Trolls who lie like rugs + deny Northrop Flying Wing was 1ST. In mid 1930'S Nazi agents stole Northrop designs from US Patent Office.
