Pinkerton was an awesome follow up album. Can't believe that shitty Rolling Stone voted it one of the worst albums of 1997.. Weezer got the last laugh. It wasn't a hit initially, but gained a huge following with the college crowd years after its release.

I hate how people keep shitting on Weezer's new content. Yes, the content Blue and Pinkerton were a lot more heartfelt and raw compared to Weezer's new content, but that doesn't mean that their new songs aren't any good. And to be honest, Matt Sharp leaving the band has nothing to do with their change in sound, it was most likely Pinkerton bombing initially, which as thesoftquid said, traumatized Rivers. That being said, my personal favorites are this and Say It Ain't So.

This is River's most heartfelt album. It's too bad people gave it so much shit when it first came out. As much as River's says this album is terrible, it's just that he's still traumatized by the critics who gave it a bad review. I don't think any sophomore album could have lived up to the debut, it's just unfortunate that Pinkerton had to fill that position.

@added23 That is true but it comes down really to hardiness. Individually we all have our own levels of resilience and I guess River's didn't have what it took to stand behind his work up until now. Some people just can't take it and I guess River's was one of the unfortunate ones. Though, I am still proud that he had the backbone to pursue something out that was leagues different from what anyone else had.

@thesoftsquid yea rivers didnt have backbone. its a shame, i know he can write good songs. blue album and pinkerton are amazing and have you heard 'songs from the black hole' or 'death to false metal'? they have some awesome songs. he did have balls to release these emotional songs but it wasnt really THAT unique. if you listen to the pixies and some nirvana you can hear the influence it had on weezers music
