Great technology. Sadly, the output and reliability are not enough. Certainly a great boon for commercial and residential means in places with sufficient sunlight, maybe even in places with decent sunlight. How well will such a system work in the high latitudes, where it is night for most of the winter? And can you produce enough energy to support nanotube production, as well as push us onto greater things, like space colonization? We need this, but we need nuclear as well.

Because we can transfer IR rays to elecrons and vice versa, we can send electricity over great distances sans wires. I imagine this will mean we don't even need to have solar panels on Earth. Earth is a shitty place to put panels in the first place for several reasons as you mentioned. Place the panels in space can be optimal all the time, beam the energy down to receivers on Earth.

We have all the talent and resources to create cheaper and cleaner forms of energy. However electricity, oil companies are have too much power and dont want it to happen. Then once you have all that nuclear power, what do you need the nano-tubes for? This will certainly have widespread applications, but large-scale energy production isn't one of them. The amount of energy necessary to make the carbon nano-tubes is way more than they will ever put out. All that nuclear can de-salinate the water

The dry casks (all Nuke Facilities have them) MUST be replaced every 50 years. Chernobyl needs to be replaced after 25 years...at a cost of multiple billions and will last only anohter 25-30 years. What is the cost of replacing one dry cask units?

LFTR now, and Helium-3 fusion in the future, is 100% clean, safe, with no long-lived transuranics like with Uranium/Plutonium fission. In fact, LFTR can take all that already existing nuclear waste and eliminate it during its fuel cycle. So if you are concerned about nuclear waste, you should be pro-LFTR.
