Thanks a million! I've been out of playing for several years and gettn ready to start back with a new Redline Peabody. I'm going to try out that EBDGBD tuning.
I've re-watched this perhaps 15+ times, heart warming and inspirational! I'm looking to learn dobro in the next 6 months, so please keep these amazing videos coming!
@jsabastian147 You put your thumbpick and ring fingertip together, then strike the string so that your fingertip touches the harmonic node right at the 24th fret and the pick plucks the string simultaneously. With this method you can strum whole chords of harmonics. It will take some practice to find the right hand position and is much easier to show than describe!
Oh my god. I've been playing standard axe for 35 years. I got a Sq neck dobro 1 month ago and was feeling pretty good about my sliding around... till now!
This clip just opened up so many doors. But one Q: What tuning are you in?
Greg - I've been a fan of yours since I first heard your version of Panhandle Rag in D position about 3 years ago. I learned to play your version and it's been a big hit around here in West Texas. I now try to keep up with your new stuff. Anyway, I tabbed your version of "Rainbow" in TablEdit format. I would like to send it to you to see what you think and make any corrections before I give it to anyone else. I teach reso guitar and have been playing about 30 years now. Keep up the great work.
What a sweet, soulful arrangement. I checked Rob Anderlik's site and didn't find the tab arrangement. Is it available elsewhere for downloading or to purchase?
Such a beautiful and thoughtful arrangement! And what a beautiful tone you get, even through my tiny laptop speakers! I'm enjoying all of your solo arrangements. I am just learning more complex dobro stuff and I tried to transcribe your arrangement. I got a lot of it but was wondering if you wouldn't mind shedding a little light on what you you are doing at the end of the bridge (1:33) for that beautiful (F#aug?)chord + harmonic. I just can't figure out the position/fingering!
Thanks for your kind words. The passage you are asking about starts by picking the 3rd string 7th fret, slide up to the 11th and pick the open 1st together with the 11th fret 2nd which gives you the Daug chord made up of D, F# and Bb. The chime is made at the 24th fret of the open 1st string using the fingertip method. Glad you like my arrangement, hope this helps.
Splendid rendition!
