  • @braddersram you won one fucking trophy one !!!! Yet shit over rated over hyped shit when it comes to internationals . Every world cup euros you always hear the same thing England are gonna win it blah blah and ye end up getting hammered ! England won in 66 in England ! And it was lesser countries back then so just shut up about 6fuckin6 it was ages ago for Christ sake ye won't win piss ever again

  • Bearing in mind that Jack Charlton had probably the best Ireland squad ever, it puts the achievement of Mr Trapattoni into perspective

  • @orourkeda does it? we finished ahead of slovakia and armeina barely and then got a rubbish estonia side in the playoffs it was hard not to quilify if we play the same with germany and sweden in our next group its a hopeless cause

  • @seankinsellasean Jack Charlton had the best ever Irish Squad. Giovanni Trapattoni doesnt. Quite the opposite in fact. He deserves credit. We dont have a world beating squad ourselves and I believe its a significant achievement to qualify for a tournament of this nature

  • @orourkeda but we have a better team than slovakia and armenia so anything other than finishing above them would be a disaster i think steve staunton could've quilified from that group

  • OUR time is NOW!

  • Jack Charlton was gutted.

  • @andrew20781 Charlton actually hit his head off the top of the dugout when Ireland scored. It looks like he was gutted but he wasn't, he nearly split his head lol

  • the good days...the charlton years

  • i remember there was a song talking about this match....can anyone tell me?

  • @hombredelpartido Joxer went to Stuttgart by Christy Moore

  • a good castlemilk bhoy. in scotland you might as well have leprosy as having irish descent. well done aiden mcgeady and james mccarthy.

  • I'm there on the terrace to the right where Rayo scored. Couldn't believe some of the chances England missed and Bonner was brilliant. Always remember it absolutely pished down with rain the night before but was fine on the day. Might be some bad mouthing on here but everyone seemed to get along out there in the fan camps. The english fans looked shell shocked after the game but cheered up after the russians beat the dutch later on. Jeez, the Furstenburgs were flowing that night. 8-)

  • The longest 84 minutes ever

  • Greatest Moment In Irish Sport.

  • Remember it so well...finished work and jumped on my moped to get home to change and get to the pub with me mates but got delayed so decided to watch the first half at home with me ma....ended up stayin there for the whole game with both of us in tears at the end...was magic...miss you mam xxxx

  • Still love watching this clip with Gabriel's commentary. Mega-exciting!!

  • What can one say?? One of the magic moments in Irish sport!

  • T'was a beautiful day. Can remember it was a sunny crisp afternoon in Dublin back then in 1988...

I wonder if Kenny Samson wakes up in a cold sweat thinking about the attempted clearance in the penalty box...maybe not...

  • I must admit. I'd like England to get to the Final of a World Cup again. I can't say I'd want them to win it (being Irish lol!). But it'd be good for their National Pride to go that far again.

I don't know why that can't happen with the English team.

  • mate i was laughing aswell. germany entertained me:) now stop rubbing it into me over england. im more directed to neutral views, and i loved how germany played yesterday

  • GET IN THERE!!!

  • this is one victory. just one. england destroy them at a massive ratio, so i aint arsed about this.

  • @weatherallc05 The only way England "destroyed" Ireland the last time they played them was by ripping seats from the stands and firing them at innocent people. Dont talk crap my man!

  • @kobbsno10 haha look at you trying to find excuses. you can beat us any time, but our class is permanently better:)

  • @weatherallc05 So you tell us then genius, when was the last time England beat Ireland?

  • @hotlips296 Hahahahaha, go Germany lmfao. What a great linesman :-)

  • Comment removed

  • @weatherallc05 no its not

  • @weatherallc05 What class lmfao Go Germany 4-1 hahahahahahahaah

  • @weatherallc05 You've beaten us twice in competitive football you fucking knob end 2 to 1. We have met twice in the finals of the actual competitions and the record is Ireland W 1 D 1 L 0. And this is in a country where Football is the third (possibly 4th) sport. Mull over that now for a while.

  • @hahern nahh ill pass... its just a fucking record

  • @weatherallc05 Well then shut the fuck up talking shit if it's only a record. You beat us once when if people played GAA they were banned from all other sports. And the last time you beat us, since then we have played 4 times and you haven't beaten us. And if you want to harp on about friendlies, don't forget '95.

  • @hahern wow ur just nasty.. and tbh '95 means nought to me, i was only two then so whats it mean to me

  • @kobbsno10 well sorry rip apart such a shit ground

  • Chip is a cunt

  • Ah brilliant!!

  • GOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!

He almost sounded like a south American commentator!

    Fair play to him ;)

    Classic classic memories.

  • The next morning none of the experts gave us the slightest chance

They said the English team would lead us "on a merry dance"

With their Union Jacks all them English fans for victory they were set

Until Ray Houghton got the ball and he stuck it in the net

    Yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip!!!!

  • Maybe 0-1's a good result when you're playing against the UN

  • Dirty English bastards suck on that and die for the Queen. 2010 bring it on you cunts!

  • I presume MUFC stands for Monaghan United and not Manchester :)

  • C'mon the fuckin Monaghan!!!!!

  • And yet you follow Man Utd, you fucking knob.

  • Love it

  • 21 years today :)

  • ffffffffffffffffffffffffff

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • never get sick of looking at that

  • up the Irish. Ireland can beat England any day

  • england are major under achievers considering the selection they have

and john terry is a big queer.

  • On the whole, Ireland and Irish people still do not like england, its just that its not such a big deal anymore and not as intense. Every major competition and sport England make themselves out to be amazing, and albeit they are generally better than Ireland, they are nowhere near the standards of the top teams, where they claim to be. Thats why we love to see them lose,as fergie would say 'to knock them off their fukn perch'!

  • I wish there was footage of Bonner's saves...

  • fucking love it when england lose football, rugby their lives

  • where is joxer??? haha

  • glory days of irish soccer........!!!!

  • greatest moment in Irish history

  • phil babbs mam came from tubbercurry which is in county sligo, ireland. you pick canadian players and likes of rooney could of played for the republic so addios muppetano

  • Get over it.. We won...

  • England's 6th XI with a couple of Irish people thrown in.....meh its ancient history and besides it gave you all a warm glow for a while, and besides Ireland gave Phil Babb some international caps.

  • ohh yesss

  • 20 years gone in a flash

  • Twenty years ago today...where has the time gone!! The start of a 10 year oddessy, happy days.

  • pob3000 you're a tool. Eh........John Barnes/Mark Wright not English born either, those non-Irish jibes are all played out, pathetic really.

  • LOL,

Mark Wright was born in Oxfordshire, its in England.

  • kevin pietersen was born in south africa, capital of england i take it, seen as he's your cricket captain.

  • Kevin Pietersen's mum is English, giving him dual nationality. Which is more than can be said of Tony Cascarino.

  • who cares if his mam is english. its a bastard race anyway. anyway who else is good in your group? no fucking one. i buy them tops to wind arsholes up like you. yep easy done. tony cascarino well he was a thick wop thats it. england are an average team who get built up every comp to be destroyed by there own press.i am proud to say i hate england , the queen and everything about the place. rip off uk thats all it is

  • leslie vainakolo, spelling may be wrong but you know who i mean, he plays rugby union for england, don't care if one of his parents is english, he played international rugby for whichever country he was born before he played for england.

  • Irelands only chance wasn't it?

  • They had a few others.. Ronnie Whelan hit the bar with a volley later on.

  • this was a great dasy for me and the irsh football. i´ll never forget it!

  • i'm from huddersfield myself,i'm an ireland fan. always have and always will

  • tony galvin born in huddersfield to aldridge born in liverpool, and houghton from glasgow. 1 nil to ireland. fantastic day i will rememberthat day til i die. hail hail

  • Wonderful day!

  • Houghton is a legend

our two greatest ever goals.i love you Ray

  • Tiocfaidh ar La!!! ;)

  • fond memories.

not that we deserved it :-)

  • We totally deserved it, and went on to do better than the English in the tournament who went on to lose their next game against Holland 1-3

The BBC actually broadcast our game last qualifier against Holland rather than their own against Russia because we only had to draw against Holland to reach the semi finals whereas England were already out of the tournament.

  • don't forget england lost 3-1 to russia also. no points no hope and not in 2008 euro's either. wonderful

  • Such bitterness, most of the Irish team was was English was it not?

  • yeah and we're comfortably on our way to qualifying the next world cup. And as for Euro 2008 qualifying didn't you do well, losing 5-2 to Cyprus. When Ireland actually achieve something in football, maybe you can take the piss out of England

  • @BraddersRam Go Germany lmfao

  • This goal and the one against Italy in 94...(was at that match) Well DOne Ray!

  • if only we had the balls now,we did then!

  • yep tnx dude :D

  • June 12 1988, magic day. Thank you Ray Houghton.
