It's awesome to be able to have a record of this type of historical event ! Tragic as it is this offers a complete view of the work and struggle to help save Texas lands , homes, animals, humans and the human spirit !!
You're an idiot, try flying an aircraft and keeping it level while the weight is drastically changing due to the amount of water that is rushing into the holding tank then drop it precisely where you need to while flying at low altitude dealing with the turbulence and wind storms created by the firestorm itself. That is definitely courageous. Get a life loser, try not be so freaking negative.
I know this was over a week ago, those planes flew over our house on Lake Travis. No one was allowed down in that area of the lake. We had one little patrol boat keeping out the boats. That boat in the video is most likely a patrol boat. It was a very quiet Labor Day.
Great video but also brings up the point that we're already very low on water meaning that our drinking water is being used to put out fires, making the water shortage even more serious. I also suspect that whoever was in that boat had to change their underwear.
Also, Great flying! I've played plenty of flight simulator (With all realism settings on of course) but this is amazing! You have to get just the right pitch, airspeed and rate of descent to avoid plowing in to the water and breaking up.
Aero-Flite out of Kingman, Arizona operates these Cl-215's. They operate 5 Cl-215's and are normally based in Minnesota and Alaska. USFS contracted for 3 CL-215's to help with this fire season. (LA County contracts 2 Cl-415's from Quebec for their peak season.)
Check out my vid on how the red tape keep planes on the ground and my friend was told to leave by forest rangers when he was there to help, and later did.. Its a real mess
Check out my vid on how red tape keep the planes on the ground and my friend was told not to help but later fought the fires for 2 days. You just have to hear it..

So @painterjohn512 how many water take -offs and landings have you made? As a pilot I mean.... and how many of these required the precision of these guys.... especially when you watch closely and appreciate the low angle or climb after they take on water.... but go ahead and take away from the pilots skill for your own fragile little ego.... and when you are a pilot, then and understand what these guys are really doing, come back and post your drivel.
I didn't know planes could do this. I live in Central Texas and have cannot believe this fire situation. I couldn't believe the 100+ days, no rain forever and now fires...Really? Glad planes can do this.
@Mesmerlab to dislike this vid you have to be a moron with an ego the size of a pebble, no friends, beat your dog and listen to country music backwards
Good stuff, not one to focus on technical stuff about the plane specs, how much water they scoop but considering how low lake travis is and the the various land barges the pilots are doing their part to help out central texans.
@marcstephensonATX yeah its a bit of a haul to go from north west travis county to bastop county.. these were probably for Leander and western fires..
why are these idiots freaking out about this amphibious aircraft doing what it was designed to do? The aircraft are not "Float Planes". Float planes are standard "wheeled" aircraft with floats attatched. These 2 were purpose built, not modified with bolt on floats. They can land on water yes, but they are not.. they are simply filling thier water tanks. The pilots know exactly what they are doing. It is a bit dangerous.. but not worth the freaking out that many of the people on here are doing
@painterjohn512 I am sure what you are saying is true, but this is not a typical scene on Lake Travis. I would have been quite impressed, If I had seen this , as well. In fact, I am impressed. Thankfully, we do not have to view this often, as awesome as it might be.
@greatunclekevin Brother, are you angered? You must be Texan, because you take the gallows humor at face value. Well, before it bursts into flames much like the rest of the state, anyways.
This looks so dangerous because I bet if they get too low they'll just get sucked in and either land or crash. I wonder how the plane is strong enough to carry all that water and the gigantic balls of the pilots
@happiest1084: They're float planes and they *are* literally landing on the lake to scoop up the water. ;-) There are two shoebox sized scoops that extend down at the back and they have to be sitting on the water for them to work. Search for CL-215 here on YouTube for plenty of videos of them in action.
@radarcub Water evaporates before it hits the ground with fires as intense as the ones currently raging in Texas. It's not going to do much of anything at all, the fires are completely out of control at the moment.

I doubt that this is for the Bastrop fires. There are smaller fires just a couple of miles from this lake where this sort of effort makes more sense.
