No, but I did receive the flip side from another friend of mine. I'm all set. Thanks for double checking and thanks for all the great music that you share with all of us.
"Richard Ward & The Hustlers - Topless Bathing Suit "
BTW you're very welcome! I need to put some time aside, I still have many obscure records to post. Just 2 let you know, I normally add them to DC+ as soon as I record them.
Hey that is my Dad singing that song and he sings the flip side as well. And it did not mean what jamesjeffreypaul has said. Dowopper51 is correct it is about being down on his luck and extremely lonely. My Dad wrote this song, but in order to get it on the record he had to sing the flip side to promote that song. Thanks for adding this, my Dad has an awesome voice and lot's of people should be able to hear him besides just his family.
I'm surprised they used this title. Wouldn't most people associate it with the famous novel about lesbianism, thereby (several decades ago) causing a storm of misunderstanding and controversy?
Interesting! I never heard of that title associated with lesbianism, but then again, I'm straight, LOL. Today, it's a whole different messed up world of what can & can't be said. Today they will change the title to make it sound better, no longer war, it's now overseas contingency operations, not a prostitute, she's now a party girl. At one time gay meant happy & cheerful, they change the title so they feel better about themselves, LOL. Crazy world, isn't it?
Well, I'm straight, too, but I still knew about it! :-) Seriously, that novel by Radclyffe Hall came out in 1928 and was quite controversial; it's still very widely known as THE most famous novel about lesbians. People in the 50s or 60s who heard about this song would have thought of that book and its subject matter (if they thought anything about it at all).
All these years, I just figured instead of a wishing well for something good, he just never had any good luck, his wish never came true, he's still a lonely guy. Honestly, I would never even consider a novel about lesbians or gays, definitely no interest. Man & women, male & female, nothing else. I believe in Adam & Eve, nothing else. Anyway, it's been very interesting talking with you, I would have never dreamed the well of loneliness meant that. Thanks!
@dowopper51 Richard, I know these comments are from 2 ys. ago, but I know that you'll still see this so couldn't resist commenting...God made Adam and Eve,not Adam and Steve. That's just the way it is. lol hugs, phyllis xo
