  • blitzPlus?

    Oh yeah its from 2008

  • I like how you say that getting the repository up and running is not fun. I feel like a nerd because I think setting up repositories is endlessly entertaining. For that matter, most of that list sounded incredibly fun. XD

  • @TheBuzzSaw How do you set up a repository? I'm almost far enough in developing my game and engine that I would like to have a repository.

  • @MrShyguy0 Well, I use Git now, not SVN. It's really easy. The command is "git init". Visit progit dot org for good info. (YouTube blocks URLs.)

  • This Comment Was Done With My Dual Monitor!

  • 8:30...I know that feel bro

  • Hey guys!

I really like your videos. I was just wondering, do you use object-oriented concepts anywhere in you code?

  • @bbgstb Everywhere. Our engine is heavily object oriented.

  • @bbgstb isnt that starcraft

  • I just noticed this video was uploaded on my birthday. How convenient.

  • lol he was playing starcraft.XD that is my favorite game

  • 6:22 PIKACHU PILLOW FTW

  • For some reason, this is probably my favorite chapter xD Can't wait for new stuff!!!

  • StarCraft rocks!

  • Hail Xenu!

    ...and StarCraft

  • "trials and tribulations" I'll have to use that on my next essay / paper

  • hahahah xD Thats hilarious lol ~

    Good vid :P

  • Standerd Python is so slow. But there is a Stackless Python that was designed for use in games(but you still can't sandbox it).

  • these guys on adventures in game development arent even 5 years older than you and they murder you in the genre of game development

  • PYTHON FTW!(and the games)

  • I've never seen marcell do anything!

  • Bitch, what.

  • I messing, falco jus never shows off what u done that much!

  • It's mostly back-end stuff. But make no mistake. Marcel has created easily the most impressive level editor that I have ever seen.

  • Haha, I'm joking man. xD

Fun to find new comments on the older vids.

  • get to work you prick!!!! lol

  • You guys know a lot about game development.I think I am the only person that knows how to program around where I live. awesome vids!!!

  • nice vids you guys have a company name yet or r you jux messn around wit game development?

  • Oh shit... Did Marcel ACTUALLY open a can with his hand?!?!

  • Every one of these vids I watch, the more I feel sorry for Marcell.

First the "GET BACK TO WORK", and now this! xD

  • i come off grounded and wow!!!!!This best ift ever lol

  • ur hot...

  • Thanks. Hopefully you're a girl.

  • -_- fuck yes i am!

  • In that case, thanks babe. ;P

  • *mutters something about Bridget*

  • all you guys should learn ruby cuz it kicks ass!

  • LOL! Hey, Sparda0. I hope you read this.

  • Hahahahaha!

Falco, now I see what you have to go through, and I must say, I FEEL YOUR PAIN, lol.

  • skater, what's so good about embedding Ruby versus Lua?

  • In my opinion, Ruby friggin sucks. Coming from a mostly C/C++ background, the syntax just doesn't "seem" right to me; I mean, using sigils "$" and/or "@" as scope resolution operators just plain sucks (ah, the good old "::" ;) ). Of course I've only had minimal experience with Ruby, so don't take my word for it.

  • i know python c++ and java and relative to them ruby sucks the results is tyhe same but syntax is way more confusing

  • What's so bad about ruby? I love ruby.

  • Not a damn thing. It's extremely powerful, it's just not what we're looking for and probably wouldn't perform well on a 200mhz Dreamcast.

  • Why not python?

  • Slow as hell and too expensive for a Dreamcast.

  • Its just a bit slower than lua.

  • It's not a little bit slower, it's considerably slower, and way more resource heavy.

  • ok but does it run on deramcast

  • no.

  • Point taken. Thanks for keeping me in mind for the future, I'm a bit flattered, but hey I guess I GOT THE SKILLZZZZ!!! hahahahah.

Seriously though, I'm sure you're making the best choice, I was just trying to help. I confident that in the end the Triforce will be united, and the GREATNESS KNOW AS... wait, whats the name of the game? Come on Falco, I'm sure it won't reveal too much of the story if you at least uncover the title... pretty please?

  • We've been arguing, bitching, and debating for literally months on a name. We chose one, then we found out that it belonged to a goddamn world of Warcraft guild. After more pondering, we've come up with a name that I'm 99% sure will be final. I'm not announcing it until we've bought a domain name for the site, though. =)

  • Lol, I just realized that we accidentally revealed one of our old plans for a name in one of the older Dev videos.

We're definitely not using that now, so don't worry. xD

  • Why use Lua? I'm guessing preference, but if I were you guys I'd go with Python ;)

A much more sensible thing to do though, is to learn Perl (Falco & Marcel), and just join forces with Peter on that end (the Triforce). Of course, I'm assuming you guys haven't yet learned/mastered Lua, so the less scripting languages the better, no?

  • What the? Are you aware of the speed of Python? It's unrealistic for a game with the specs we're targetting to run Python as a primary scripting language, ESPECIALLY if it's on Dreamcast. Why would you choose Python? Lua is both faster and much less demanding.

Perl was my first language, and it's one of the slowest scripting languages around. Another unrealistic choice.

Lua was meant for what we're doing. It's by far the smartest decision.

  • Hahahahahahah!

No offence Falco, but the way you put it, it sounds like you're writing Id tech 6, or maybe Gears of War 2! I understand that Lua has less overhead than other scripting languages, but if speed is such a concern, then just use plain old C/C++, like you've been doing (Lua's stack based bytecode interpreter is relatively still pretty darn slow); meaning use C/C++ for the NPC actions, etc.

Anyway, the Python comment was just a personal preference, no reason to get excited :D

  • Nah, I'm not excited. I don't have enough room to say anything in these comments other than saying it how it is.

Perl and Python are both powerful multipurpose languages that are meant for things like Unix scripting and the like. Lua was specifically made for game development.

Plain old C and C++ doesn't offer the flexibility that we need, and Perl or Python doesn't offer the performance.

Man, I'd love to throw Perl in there and call it a day. I love Perl.

  • peters not in retirement, it's called unemployment is'nt it?

  • Yes. His ass will be back at work soon.

  • Yeah I kinda don't....But I will put all of the effort I have into it. And is Marcel=AmazingArce?O_o

  • Yes.

  • Oh last annoying random quick response question. Can you name some books you used? ALl i got is Microsoft Visual Basic Version 5 and 6 >__>

  • Yes.

Again, be looking for the How-To video.

We get this type of question all the time, and (not to be a douchebag) don't really have time to answer every individual one.

I'll be sure to refer you to some good sources in the video.

  • Alright I'll be looking out for them. Thanks. Oh yeah and " Get to work you little prick" ^_^

  • Yeah, wtf are you doing on Youtube? Chris and I are working right now.

  • ahhhh......kinda did xP. Ah well I'll just google thanks for the info.

  • ROFL.

I don't think you realize the amount of effort this takes.

  • You learned from reading......how...was there some tutorial you watched

  • We read books. This is after 4 years of experience. You don't think there's some "tutorial" that teaches you to do this, do you?

  • No. We ALL taught ourselves through various readings, experiments, etc. Before this game, we've ALL independently created side project purely for learning experiences. This is our first collective, serious effort. There is no single tutorial that can teach you how to be an experienced programmer.

We are still planning on creating the "How-To" videos to answer this type of question, and help new comers to go in the right direction.

    Be looking for them. =P

  • Where did you guys go to learn programmin?

And uh..why are you guys making a RPG?

  • Uh....

...First of all, we obviously like RPGs. Why do most people make certain types of games?

We learned from ourselves. Books, reading, examples.

  • Why does Marcel always look pissed?

  • This movie was filmed Friday. The whole week I'd been up until 3 in the morning studying for AP tests, then gotten up at six for school. Then on my Friday I'm up until 7 in the morning rewriting shit that I'd already done. Caffeine has by then lost its effects on me.

Of COURSE I looked pissed. xD

This is how it usually is when I dev. I'm literally falling asleep across my keyboard because I'm already so wasted from the school week. Then I stay up all night RE-DOING stuff I'd already done. =/

  • nice man, I play starcraft also. Keep up the good work.

  • Actually, before I began working on this project, I was making an RTS in SDL with StarCraft and Command and Conquer as my primary inspiration.

I was wondering if anyone would comment on the starcraft battle...That I won. xD

  • My god :o , You have a sega 32X too :B ...

But seriously , Setbacks because of deletion of work is a pain in the ass ... can't remember exactly how many times it's happened to me but it's a LOT.

  • I was wondering if anybody would comment on the 32x. KNUCKLES CHAOTIX 2PLAYER OH HELLZ YES!

And believe it or not, Marcel really DID redo all of it.

  • Don't forget the SegaCD and you got yourself a battlestation :D

  • We have that too, rofl.

We even have 3 of the "Sega CDX" game/movies that require both the 32x and CD to play. That beast setup takes an entire section of a room to play.

  • ....WHERE do you find everything , I mean ChronoTrigger , SecretOfMana , FF6 , SegaCD , Sega32X ... and games that implement the awesome power of the Genesis-BattleStation(probably the same as SegaSaturn)... You lucky pricks :P

  • Good ol' Alabamian Flea Markets. Rednecks don't know what they have until after they've sold it to me for fifty cents. :D

  • Yeah , A friend of mine actually sold a NeoGeo with 5 games and two Pads for like $10 ... that made me uppset

  • what language is the level editor in?

  • BlitzPlus.

  • Html.

  • lol

  • Hard time man.

But it happens. Happens with me too. Motivation is the only thing which is going to drive us in our game development journey.

People should know how to motivate themselves. But still its part of life man. Relax for sometime and I am sure you guys will be back in business.
