  • I completely agree with all D. Michael Quinn say about the mormon church (the good and not so good).

    Great speech.

  • I hope the LDS General authorities will realize what they have given up by ex communicating this man whose only wish is to bring forth the truth about who the prophets really were and relinquish the 'airbrushed' polyanna version of prophets being perfect. For if this is the 'true church' as it claims to be, why be afraid of truth? Why try to silence faithful but educated scholars who are trying to find a deeper, richer understanding of the faith they believe in?

  • A great intellect. The Church is worse off without him. I hope one day the church leaders will see the damage done by losing these kinds of people.

  • He is pro gay and lesbians. This is enough for me to stop listening to him.

  • @reisset182 hahahah, you are being a terrible person.

  • Then you are not following God's admonition to love one another.... because i share Mr. Queen's view that love between two men or two women is as valid as love between a man and a woman as long as they are consensual and safe and certainly not worse than polygamy and the abuse that goes on in the FLDS church (a church born from the same prophet).

  • @BlueEyesBrittany And i am not gay.... but i think gay men are often much nicer than their over masculine counterparts who think that to be a man is equal to having all the authority, all the rights including the one to abuse women and mistreat them and/or deny them the same rights.

Well those who behave like such men are everything but Christian because God tells us to see our own trespasses prior to pointing out those of others...

  • @BlueEyesBrittany And truly sexism or forced polygamy has no place in the house of God because both are abusive and demeaning in nature (except in the case of consentual and limited polygamy where things can work out).

  • @BlueEyesBrittany Do you believe in Christ? If so, you must believe the Bible because it talks about Christ. The Bible is clear about homosexuality: God is against it. First commandment given to Adam and Eve was to "Be fruitful and multiply" (Genesis 1). Hard to do with gay couples. The story of Sodom & Gomorrah (Genesis 19) is another clear example that shows that God is against it. Don't get me wrong, just like God, I do love gays and lesbians, but I hate what they are doing.

  • @reisset182 Hate and Love have no place together!

  • I absolutely love this video!

  • Heartfelt words. I appreciate Michael Quinn very much but cannot for the life of me figure out how he continues to believe in the context of the big problems: BOM being fictional, Book of Abraham being fictional, (don't know if Michael believes in the authenticity of the scriptures) and the many other problems which he has discovered and written about.

  • D Michael Quinn is a delusional hypocrite who can't move on. What possesses a supposedly proud "out" gay man and an adversarial intellectual to pretend to himself and others that he still believes in the Mormon dogmas? I suspect it was the realization that he had built his entire career and influence around the LDS community and he can't let it go.

  • His writings are more accurate than the manuals I am given every year in the High Priest's Group. Ever check out how they are cut and pasted together? That cannot be called scholarship. Our history has been a distorted and water down version to keep everyone ignorant and in bliss, maybe you too?

  • You're right BsasilPascali. There is also so much beauty and goodness that isn't even discussed in the Church manuals. The stories of women and authority in the days of Joseph Smith. The story of Eliza R. Snow and her wonderful and powerful leadership as a "prophetess, high priestess" and lifelong president of the Relief Society. There are many other important issues that are not discussed in those manuals.

  • @BsasilPascali Weird that the top two comments are from the same dude.

  • There is not a living or deceased LDS historian of any consequence that I have not read. There are none better or more competent than D. Michael Quinn. Shame on you bigots and those who have persecuted him or have delighted in his difficulties. What you have done unto him will be thricefold repaid to you. I promise.

  • well said, BsasilPascali. I agree that there is no better or competent LDS historian. None. whenever I read Quinn's works I am overcome with amazement over the thoroughness of his research and the clarity of his writing.

  • Michael Quinn, the great deceiver. He has made up more LIES about LDS History than lucifer himself.

It is too bad EXmormons and ANTImormons don't check references and so called facts or they would see has as a fraud too!

  • My dear, take the illustrations in the book of Abraham and go to an expert on the Egyptian language. Compare his translation to the translation of Joseph Smith jr. as written in the BOA. Think hard, who was the deceiver?

  • Mammaworse,

Typical EXmormon/ANTImormon you can't stay on subject. I take it you are giving me the point of Quinn being a liar and deceiver.

If you want we can debate BOA translations in a different post. Yeah, I read what a famed Egyptologist Hugh Nibley said about the translations and he concurred with JS. Now don't you look stupid.

  • Maybe you shouldn't take all your info from the same source. Go to an entirely independant source like a specialist on Egyptian who is not an enemy of the Mormon Church. It's so easy to know the truth about this if you only have the courage to do it. And by the way, Nibley was not a Egyptologist. Don't let them fool you any longer, they're taking your money!

  • Mammaworst,

Nibley not an Egyptologist? Even your ANTImormon websites say he is.

As for the fascimiles. I have yet to find any (non ANTI)scholar that disagrees with the translation. As for the BOA everyone agrees that it wasn't translated from the papyri that is available. Nice try though. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

  • Nibley knew a bit of this and a bit of that and put things together to strange ad hoc theories. Even some LDS scolars knew what he was doing. And he was paid to do it. Take the facsimiles to a real expert. The truth shall make you free!

  • Mammaworst,

Sounds like you are trying to get me to run around in circles. TYPICAL EXmormon. I show you were you are wrong and then it is something else. Much like Tantalus you were never be satisfied.

Try making something of you life and helping the less fortunate.

  • No, don't run around in circles, go to the nearest university who has an expert on Egyptian language. That is what I did, and I can now say that I KNOW that Joseph Smith jr. was NOT a prophet of God. He was a fraud!

  • mammaworst,

I will call your bluff. Why don't you give me his name and university and I will email him/her the fascimile. Then we can go from there.

Since you are a typical EXmormon I know you are full of crap. Willing to say anything.

  • My dear, I live in Norway, so I used the Egyptian institute of the Univ. of London. It's better you use one of your own universities. And don't be afraid, God will NOT punish you for wanting the truth about this. Jesus said that the truth shall make you free, and after I did this I fully understand what he meant, and I am so grateful and happy for this enormous feeling of freedom! Good luck!

  • After you have found the truth, please don't get angry at the Mormon members. They are innocent and totally brainwashed like you and I once was. If you need help digesting your feelings afterwards, please go to Exmormon Foundation. The people there have been such a comfort to me, and we even have some of them over here in Europe.

  • Still no name?????? Just a lot of broad strokes. Michael Quinn is very proud of you!!

  • Mammaworst,

Please do not avoid the question any longer. I have called your BLUFF and insist you give me the name of the person you used. I know this is another EXmormon lie by those who couldn't cut the mustard. i.e. JUDAS

  • To give someone's name out I have to have permission. You have to find you own expert, this one lives and works in England. It doesn't matter who you use, as long as he is an expert on Egyptian. It really doesn't sound as though you want to find out the truth about this, do you? It is not difficult. Tell me what state you live in, and I'll try to help you find an expert you can use.

  • Mammaworst,

that is ok, I figured you wouldn't give a name. You are an ANTImormon and they tend to lie. It is in your nature. In other words, I caught you.

Let me know when you have the name of the person whom you mentioned.

"go to the nearest university who has an expert on Egyptian language. That is what I did"

I am sure you will have an eternity in a warm place to try and think of one.

  • TYPICAL brainwashed mormon. Where have you ever shown anyone to be wrong? You get schooled like a little schoolgirl all the time.

This is like claiming to be able to drink from a firehose without gettting wet!!!

  • FUBAR,

    "TYPICAL brainwashed mormon."

I believe it is the ANTImormon leaders that are full of abuse and divorce, and lie like crazy. speaking of crazy are there any ANTImormons that haven't been diagnosed as crazy?

Of course much like Mormons you know very little about your ANTImormon movement and leaders.

best of luck with your ignorance!

  • Sources please.

  • "Sources please. "

go to exmormon(dot)org type in divorce in the search bar.

come back here with the results

    do the same for abuse.

then we will go onto the rest of the sources 1-100 one step at a time!

  • Most of those divorces are caused by mormon bishops and stake presidents telling the deluded mormon spouse to divorce the free thinking spouse.

    FAIL. Try again.

  • @bzabrisk

I see that you too are completely unable to defend mormonism or refute the arguments that critics put forth. It must be really awesome to be a part of a cult that is completely untenable. Oh that's right, "He [Satan] wins a great victory when he can get members of the church to speak against their leaders and to do their own thinking....When our leaders speak, the thinking has been done."

  • I'm not referring to the tenability of the LDS church. Just impressed by your tactics. I mean, "FAIL! Try again."? No one has said that to me since grade school. I'm glad it is being introduced into adult discourse.

  • @bzabrisk

"FAIL!" is a common term on the Innernets. Do a google search for 'fail' if you don't believe me.

  • Comment removed

  • @fubecabr not that you are one of those men :)

  • @bzabrisk

Thanks. FYI: "Innernets" is a term that Bush The Dumber used in a 2004 Presidential Debate.

  • audio broke up for me near the end.

I feel for him. So little distortion can ruin so much happiness. We need to all keep praying for each other, regardless on what side of membership we are on
