for beginners, you should start with a slow/controlled forehand loop till you get consistent with your shots and know the feel of the ball brushing against the rubber. From there, you can start speeding up, but the faster you swing, the longer you have to wait.
Major difference. You'll know if you are brushing or hitting the ball by the sound it makes off your rubber. I love looping as my main weapon but if I'm caught in the middle, I tend to counterhit it to the forehand but strong so that it comes to me as a weak return waiting for the next ball.
wela310 if you want to loop backspin (if you don't already know) you need more of an upward finish with the loop stroke and you also need to use more leg power to "dig out" the backspin. But this comes with time as a ball with heavy backspin will be much different of a loop motion than a ball will lesser backspin... hope that I helped... :)
I wish I can get this DVD but the problem is that the Philippines has a shitty EMS. Almost no items arrive safe. Some get stolen and some don't really arrive. If it does arrive, you'll get charged with taxes even more expensive than your item. Plus, they use manual paper not computers to record things. Wow Hi-Tech!
yeah watch this video if you still cant do it... buy the video and if you still can't do it you might be too uncordinated to do it and try picking up a different sport
i agree. you might be able to loop but you're useless unless you can simply rally with forehand and backhand. start with the basics and work your way up.
I've recently gotten back into TT, and cannot hit a forehand loop (it always goes long). Years ago, it was my strongest shot. Should I change my rubber/sponge thickness or softness?
hmm, i would say that the best idea wat change rubbers for now. the rubbers u hav are probs too fast, go for sumthin a little slower, but keep it soft so u can still get a fine and crisp feeling with contact on the ball. when u feel like the ball is easy and consistantly going on, get faster rubbers again. ur rubbers might even b too old.
I know what you're talking about, the loops going far off the table and stuff. If you want to regain your level again, you should start off with a better looping rubber, or a slower one. Your current rubber is probably too fast. Or like Mastro said, it may be too old to function properly. I recommend Yasaka Mark V or Sriver EL for starters. If you want something a little more spinnier and slower, go for DHS TG3 Skyline.
Hey is Mark V rubber good? That is the rubber i use for my forehand but i was wondering if the spin is ok compared to other rubbers because it seems like heaps of other people are able to produce way more spin. It might just be my bad playing though.
I know your post is from last year so you've most likely found your form but I'll answer from my own experience. After a 27 year layoff my loop had deserted me. Turns out I was trying to hit my opponents backspin and topspin shots with the same looping motion. Every once and a while it would be okay but not often. My suggestion go back to the basics of how to stroke a ball with backspin and one with topspin. I think the improvement will be immediate.
no, it isn't the same thing; in loop, if u tried to loop when someone didn't chop or do a side spin serve, then the ball would fly out of limits. if u smashed, when someone did the side spin, the ball would go on to the net.
Videos are really good to help proper techniques. Don't know how good this TTMaster video is. The training video series I watched was in Chinese which is really good(the coaches in there are from Provincial and National Team coaches and researchers). Hope this training video is just as good:)

Forehand loop = Brush the ball
Forehand topspin = hit the ball

it sumtimes depends on the type of rubber on ur TT bat but man those r pro loopsO.O i lyk the sidespin hook =D

Kreanga punches all the time. Penholders have a strong punch esp. if your loop is too high or not strong.

lol forehand loop and smash are the same thing just depends on the amount of speed you put
Im just starting to get it
Its really fun to execute
trsrocker123 4 years ago
Wrong. The definitions of the respective shots is a function of spin, more than speed.
BicolBandit 4 years ago
NO they are not the same. There is a very noticeable difference in the speed.
