  • sorry to swear but that was fucking unbelievable

  • not being gay i love it!!!!

  • in the dectionary beside the word "performer" there should be a picture og Charles Aznavour!AMAZING!

  • This is deep.

  • nice !!!!

  • incredibly deep lyrics. goosebumps all over my skin

  • BRAVO!!BRAVO!

  • So damn deep!

  • A great performer and this song makes me feel so sad. I'm a straight woman but hope and pray for the day all gays are made to feel by society that they are equal to all the straight people out there.

  • I love this song it sums me up and im proud of being what i am

    Thanks CA

  • Aznavour,

you are a great performer and,

you are a real Mensch !!

  • I always remember how he performed "She" with his back to the audience and his arms wrapped impossibly. Then I found Brel ... a Belgian ... and then I bought Charles' greatest hits ... and wished.

  • That was 'dance in the old fashioned way' London Palladium, some decades ago.

  • What an impact !! Thank you, thank you!!

  • I was 19 when I bought my mum a cassette of his songs - I took it back and have listened to his songs ever since - What I wanted to say was apart from loving this mans song lyrics and performance I can only think of one other

writer/singer who can get so many words/sentences into one line of a song and that would me Morrisey I marvel at how much they can get accross in just one line of a songs lyrics

  • absolutely brilliant

  • Charles Aznavour: what a man. He wrote this cry for gay liberation 40 years ago although he's straight. Such perceptive and moving lyrics. He comes from the time before disco and music videos and learnt his art in theatres and music halls. Absolutely wonderful.

  • unbeatable! love his voice and passion thanx 4 the clip ;)

  • Dear Aznavour for me you are the defenition of a great human being, i love your music. AMAZING!!!!

  • priceless!

  • He is GREAT! He'll always be. :) I grew up with his music, now I'm 25 and still love him.

Thank you so much for posting this!

  • FABULOSITY!!!! :D

  • Brilliant! That's all there is to say. Aznavour is a poetic genius.

  • the song looks like the dandy's of earlier day's end the gay nowaday's....

  • so true and so sad = ( but a beautiful song!

  • Fabulous !!

Thanks for posting, and Happy Easter BTW

    Steven

  • Joyeuses Pâques! Zalige paasdagen!

  • Fabulous ! I didn't know there an english version of his French song, and didn't know what he exactly sung in French. (although I know French).

Thanks for posting and thanks to Charles Aznavour !

    Gaygreetings, of Holebi's Holebis ♥♂♂,♀♀♥

  • The eloquence of the writing in this song is moving beyond words and what a voice this man has. I am a fan of his in any language!

  • GENIUS!

There is no other artist alive (and few dead) that can compare to the talent of this man, how he can write and deliver a song, not to mention that he has done so in several languages so that more of us can enjoy his gift. Thank you, thank you.

  • I agree completely. When the singer and the songwriter are one and the same it almost always makes for something special. And, Aznavour is and always will be One of The Great Ones!

  • i prefer the french and italian version ( Quello che si dice).

  • je ne l avais jamais ecoute en anglais mais ca doit dire la meme chose qu en francais

  • What a great song, considering he's Armenian he is a very good songwriter in different languages

  • hey thanx 4 posting i love this song =]

do you by any chance have the song called la fille in english cuz i can only find the french version of him singing it plez comment bak

    thanxx so much !!! =D

  • ou est-ce que je peux trouver les paroles a cette chanson svp???

  • very good song

  • This is an unforgettable piece.

Anybody who has ever had love, whether straight or gay, knows absolutely that everybody deserves the love that makeS him or her happy. EVERYONE! No one should judge another in the pursuit of love, and no one should presume to interfere! Love is the only thing that matters in life!

  • agreed!

  • And nothing else! You are absolutely right!

  • mc0558 more truthful words cannot be spoken! WOW! Thank you for sharing your wisdom! A better place this world would be, if more people thought like you and me! I am envious of your friends because they have the joy of someone who thinks like you in their lives.

  • Wonderful ... there's nothing more I can say. Thank you for posting!

  • He gets sexier with age, like a mature wine, long may he continue.

  • All the brillance , all the beauty , all the sadness , & all the truth of that song defy description. Not to forget the performance of Charles Aznavour , which of its own accord is breathtaking.

  • what makes a man a man?

    is retoric don´t answer lol

  • um... is he...um...gay!!??

  • HE'S NOT GAY

    read the previous comments

  • Why always asking if someone is gay? It's all about what someone tries to say.Try to understand what this song is all about and you'll never ask this stupid question again.

  • He is perhaps the last true artist left on the stage. He breathes Art and delivers it to the world. Unlike many performers in the world and especially in the U.S. :))

  • what a superb performance and a beautiful song......

Charles is one of the best performers and songwriters of all time

  • oh definitely, without a doubt!

and he is currently the most legendary performer still touring, recording, and writing. totally unparalleled.

  • He is perhaps the last true artist left on the stage. He breathes Art and delivers it to the world. Unlike many performers in the world and especially in the U.S. :))

  • Uma das mais bonitas interpretações. Maravilhoso!!!

  • I love Almond's version, it's more personal. But Charles is a legend.

  • this song was contoversal when he first recorded it i the 70's. i seen him i an interview explaining that he was in a business where there were lots of gays but that they seemed to have no voice and so he thought he would do a song about them.

  • Aznavour is a great poet and an artist no doubt about that, but I prefer the Madame Minnelli's interpretation of this song if in English, otherwise I love the original in French.

  • I ask myself what I have got Of what I am and what I'm not What have I given The answers come from those who make The rules that some of us must break Just to keep on living I know my life is not a crime I'm just a victim of my time I stand defenseless Nobody has the right to be The judge of what is right for me Tell me if you can What make a man a man
  • This song is Fabulous...and one of the most passionate and haunting poems ever written...I love it! It says it all!

  • God I never new he was gay till I knew he sang this song otherwise I would have liked him years ago lol

  • he's NOT gay, he has had SOOO many women and children... it's a song ABOUT a gay guy...

  • Don't be silly. Aznavour is not gay. No way. He's 100% straight. It was a courageous song to be sang in the 1970s, although a bit patronizing to gays. And Aznavour shouldn't camp it up: it weakens the performance.

  • "The answers come from those who make the rules that some of us must break just to keep living"

    A brilliant lyric.

  • totally!

  • LOVE.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's truly a brilliant song. I love this version and Liza M's version, equally stunning.

  • 1981, I is very young, I sit with my, then, boyfriend and listen to his recordplayer playing old 45-s, and all in this song is absoluely true...

  • I haved loved his work since the 70's. With his accent, he could sing anything to me!

  • What a great artist and such a great song. Heard is first time in the early 80s, loved it from the first listnening. Have never seen Mr Aznavour perform it.

    Hvala OettingerCroat.

  • Great Song from a Great Star, Thanks.

  • hvala lijepa!

  • Oh Thanks for the message, well I still like him anyway I will listen him more thanks.

  • no worries, and thanks for viewing! :-)

  • This is from Aznavour's 1995 Carnegie Hall DVD, a great performance. I came across it only last summer and have played it countless number of times. Everyone a master piece.

  • Also, thank you, OettingerCroat for sharing these wonderful clips of my hero! Thank you, thank you so much!!! :))

  • you're welcome! he is the hero of ALL of us! ;-)

  • Aznavour. That's all you have to say!!! :))

  • For a middle-aged gay man, who lived through the 70's bashings in a small town, the health crisis of the 80's, the funerals of the 90's, and still, in the 21'st century, having my car kicked in last week by someone who decided that "I was not the same kind of man he was"...... this song, ever since the first time I heard it, reminds me I am not alone. And furthermore, I think it is one of those rarities that will stand the test of time.......

  • Im sorry to hear of your troubles Bryan... that stinks doesnt it.. I think Charles is singing/saying that ignorance is everywhere and we, who are not right wing fundamentalists or just pig ignorant biggots, have to bare the cross!

I hope things are better for you and you got your car fixed xxx

  • Wonderful - simply wonderful, no wonder liza minnelli is in love with this man he is the master of making the lyris of a song mean something that everyone can connect with

  • Oh, thanks so much for this! I love this song, and I have never seen him perform it. I do remember seeing him on "The Dr. Ruth Show" in the late '80s discussing this song. Has it dated? Perhaps. The heartarche and yearning are timeless.

  • Fabulous....wonderful song writer......
