There's actually another equipment factor to consider:
the type and condition of your tip.
A soft tip will grip the cue ball better than a hard tip, imparting more backspin, and thus greater draw.
The downside of a soft tip is that it will wear out faster than a hard tip, tends to mushroom more, requiring more maintenance, and its playing characteristics are not as constant throughout the life of the tip.
If you use a hard tip, rough it up occasionally with a scuffer or tip pick.
3) tip condition - the tip should be rounded to the shape of an American nickel, or slightly more, depending on personal preference. Scuff it up occasionally.
4) stroke may not be level
5) death grip on the butt of your cue - keep it loose
6) tryng to hit too hard - the stroke needs to be nice and smooth with constant acceleration.
You should also put angle as a factor of how much draw you can make in a shot. If you hit the ball straight on, you can get a better draw. Where as if you use draw in balls where you need to cut them, the draw will be bad and you can't achieve a good distance.
it doesn't matter how hard you hit it at all, the 2 biggest factors in good draw/screwback is timing and pushing your cue through the cueball. it doesn't matter how many times you cue up to the cue ball, just cue up until you feel a natural fluent stroke and push the cue through the cueball i can guarantee an improvement.
@friedcrispy It may be that ur cue stick is not as level with the cue ball as much as it can be, and it would be a little raised and ull scoop the ball if ur very low or depending on how far it is from level u may just be jumping it just try lowering ur stance to level the cue out
i have a magnetic ball and the ball is heavier and harder to do this. I never realized it until i used a regular ball. I guess i got use to it, thanks for the tip! Im gonna try and find a nicer magnetic ball
Thanks oyster. Hey why don't you post more instructional stuff? I have received over a million hits. It seems to me that you have better computer and video equipment. You could easily make better stuff than me.
NIce job! You are doing a very good job at there videos with the graphics. Just a few minor details I would revise here. Keep up the passion. Cheers mate!
Technically, the angle of your cue with the table effects your draw aswell. If you have a bigger angle you are giving the cueball the chance to 'run away from your cue', thus you can hit it harder and longer.
Hey great video bro, you actually understand the physics behind your shot and illustrate it beautifully even to the layman. Keep it up hope you keep it up!
These are great videos and very informative. I would just like to say that I bought a lower end lucasi that came with a triangle tip. For anyone who is planning on buying a cue with a triangle tip, don't. They are made of steel and make any kind of draw really hard to do. I paid $140 for that cue and I can't stand it already.

when i try to draw, the cue ball jumps... why?
(sorry for my english)
AirForehand 2 years ago
Two reasons;
1) Your hitting the cue ball too low, which will cause it to jump
or 2) You simply havnt got enough (or any) chalk on your cue
theInfecteD1243 2 years ago
the cue ball jumps because you hit the ball to low.
so you just want to hit it a bit off center not to much of center.
tomyetmanlol 2 years ago
thats what i was thinking alot of the time if draw isnt performed well the cue ball will jump and in organized play that would be a scratch
Cheeta1020 2 years ago
There are several reasons why the cue ball jumps.
1) hitting the cue ball too low.
2) lack of chalk on your tip
3) tip condition - the tip should be rounded to the shape of an American nickel, or slightly more, depending on personal preference. Scuff it up occasionally.
4) stroke may not be level
5) death grip on the butt of your cue - keep it loose
6) tryng to hit too hard - the stroke needs to be nice and smooth with constant acceleration.

for some reason when i attempt this, i get more of a follow then a draw. sometimes it works though. do you keep your cue level or up like a jump?
joshrench 3 years ago
every time i try to draw I jump the ball. any tips?
friedcrispy 3 years ago
You are most likely dropping your elbow too much. That's just a guess.
forcefollow 3 years ago
you shot too low..
iceblue200808 3 years ago
Something that helped me was to elevate my cue just slightly as well so you don't cut under and scoop the cue ball so much. Might work for you too.

@friedcrispy
I think your hand bridge is too high, you should lower it and try to keep your cue parallel to the ground,
Cheers
