As I've said, you are my favorite gun reviewer!!! I don't see how one can do a review on a gun and not shoot it??? You talk about it and put it through its paces on your range... Good stuff.
This is my favorite gun channel by far. Main reason? Just about every video is a CONTINUOUS >20 minutes. That is impressive, to flow so naturally through everything I could think to ask.
I have watched many of your other videos on the pm9, lc9, pf9 etc, and I have been debating looking into the m&p 40c but 1 minute into your video I am sold. great shooting.

Fantastic channel. Informative, comedic (“what’s this got to do with the price of eggs?”), & action packed. Your cameraman does a great job as well. Planned on a Glock 23 but found out Mass Law prohibits it; S.W. M&P .40c is only alternative. Thanks for helping us 'new shooters'.
Never a dumb question. Clips refer to strips of metal that hold onto ammunition (older military rifles used these with a NON detachable magazine). Most straight clips would insert into the weapon and the user would push the rounds in (like an SKS). Others are round or semi-circular and can be used as a quick reloading tool for revolvers (not ALL revolvers, just the ones that are made to use these moon and half moon clips). Magazines are typically detachable and insert directly.
Hey I have shot the mp40c but not the glock 27 I was wondering the recoil difference if any. I was really Impressed with the way the smith shot but think im going to go with the glock 27. Thank you and love the videos! Hope you can help?
Another great review - thanks. I have both and shoot the Glock more naturally because I've put at least 20,000 rounds through various Glocks.
By the little M&P is a sweet pistol and I'm not giving up on it. I have one with the dreaded 'mag release safety' that some foolish state (Massachussetts??) insists on so take down is fiddly but that's easy enough to fix.
I am prejudiced I think S&W makes great guns with great triggers, Now they jumped on the striker fired band wagon. I carried a model 19 on duty and model 60 off duty and as a plain clothes deputy. My Dept went to model 59 autos, and Smith made tons of great autos D/A S/A for years,5900, 1300, CS9, and so many different models I can't keep track. If I had not purchased three Glocks this year, I probably would have got M&P? But I did buy 2,a BG380 and a 638 air weight. 3 Bersa.Waltherp22 a new LC9
@surfside006 You wasted a lot of time saying that you are pro S&W. In order to compete in the real world, S&W (& others) have copied a tried and true...why are you hell bent on arguing about designs that were NEVER part of the Glock product? I love my S&W 686, but I'm not going argue with anyone over why the striker fired pistols have no hammer to pull back. And why do we care how many pistols you have? TMI from a never was.
Not to confuse anyone,Yes at the range I chamber my cocked Glocks, If I was in the woods I would Chamber My cocked Glocks. I would never pocket carry my Cocked Glocks.
The Glocks have a great trigger, very accurate, nothing against the Glocks, but why would I EDC pocket carry my Glocks, when I have ten 100% better choices that I actually own?

I love your videos. I also love my M&P and they do in fact fit the full size .40 mags and some companies make grip expenders that fit the compacts, if someone is looking for more capacity at the range.
I think Glock has brain washed the Gun world? That Only Glock is the savior of all Gunaholics.
Glock convinces all that a safety turns itself on, and the bad guy will kill you, if god forbid your gun has a safety lever on it? Glock promoted a safe action pistol? The only thing safe? is don't pull the trigger accidentally. Safer guns are simply double action heavy trigger pull guns, not Glocks. No need to engage a safety on a DAO, or D/A S/A guns that are decocked, I don't chamber my 3 Glocks
@surfside006 First, how often have you put your car into gear and forgotten the E-brake was on? If that's the safety on your gun, it makes you dead. BIG difference. Secondly, carrying a gun w/o a chambered round is just stupid. If you haven't enough confidence to carry a loaded gun, don't carry. Try a rock instead. Time on target is essential in any gunfight. Racking a round or disengaging a safety takes time. The safeties are in your head and your finger.
@5Ring The answer is NEVER, I never use my handbrake, unless it was on the side of a mountain.Since I NEVER put it on I NEVER forget it on.
Second question I have never put a hand gun on safety,NEVER.
Why would I need to engage a safety on any double action gun? I simply NEVER carry my Glocks at all,why would I need to carry my Glocks? Since I simply have 10 Double Action alternate choices on hand. God Bless the Cocked and Locked, and striker fired cocked guns, with or without safeties?
It kind of confuses me that anyone would object to a safety lever on a gun? Good god if you don't want your gun on safety? don't put it on safety? the lever will not put itself on safety for you.
The lever like a fire extinguisher, or emergency brake, you are not required to use them. One would believe the safety lever would simply automatically engage itself? using this mentality if you don't engage a emergency brake cars should not have any? The gun makers must get crazy with this B/S? ????
The M&P is sold in two versions. One with an external safety, and one without. Some people just like having a safety lever. To me its one more thing you have to do before dropping your target. When Glock first came out, many older officers complained it had no safety. I asked them where the safety was on the 686 they had been carrying for years. If you don't want it to go bang, don't pull the trigger.
I spent about 3 months trying to make the decision between these 2. I wanted to like the Glock more, but my choice was the S&W. I shot them both about 3 times each at the range. Two problems with the Glock I couldn't let go of. I couldn't get comfortable with the Glock with my pinky hanging off the gun. With the extended pinky mag, I kept pinching my pinky finger. Also, the snap of the recoil is more noticeable than the S&W. At least 1,500 rounds thru my S&W, I love it, but a few problems.
I also have a Kel-tec P11 which is very comfortable to carry. It has the belt clip so no holster is needed. This makes it very thin when you consider it holds 12+1 9mm. To me, thinness is more important in CCW than barrel length when dealing with sub-compact guns. Hell, I've even carried my Ruger SR9 fullsize (17+1) IWB. It is about the same thickness as a 1911 and more comfortable than the G27 any day. Glocks published width for the G27 is across the slide not the grip which is thicker.
I had a G27 for off-duty carry and found it to be hard to conceal in Florida where I wear shorts and t-shirts ten months a year. The G27 is just too thick for IWB carry,IMO. It had too much of an imprint unless I wore a shirt 2 sizes too big and it felt like a brick in my belt and hand. I sold the Glock and bought an MP40C. I love it. It is thinner and the grip is better. It holds one more round and i don't have to wear a circus tent to hide it. I also like The MPs action betterthan the G27.
hickok -- got to say I like your videos a great deal. I got the mp 40c and I need to say before I got it, i did a hard look at it and the glock (the exact on on your table in this video). I looked a fool in the shop but had both and had in pocket, inside waist, and focused completely on consealing it. The size was huge on teh MP side because of the slide was low sitting and the weight was on point. The glock felt way to high compared to mp. I have the mp on me everyday its perfection.
Hey Hickok can u do a G36 review and shoot?? Do you not like the 36 I think it's a perfect ccw if someone needs more then 6 .45 slugs something's wrong! Thanks keep the great vids coming
What about the fact that the M&P has a steel recoil guide rod versus the plastic guide rod in the glock.? For most men with large hands all the sub-compact glocks are very uncomfortable to shoot. I got rid of my glocks for M&Ps. A lot more comfortable in my hand, a lot more smoot shooter in the M&P as well. I will take the litltle larger frame of the M&P for the increased comfort and control.
I know you got that M&P used. Is it possible it's had a trigger job? I'm surprised the trigger pull would be lighter than the Glock. My understanding was it was a pound of two heavier. Thanks.
im looking into getting one of the two pistol and i was wondering if M&P magazines are interchangeable? putting the mag from a full size into compact just like glock pistols also if the barrels are interchangeable if i ever wanted to down size the 40 to 9mm buying one barrel which will fit both the m&p full size and compact just like the G23 and 27
great video by Hickok45, In watching the video, most of the misses with the M&P, to me looks like it was hitting/shooting low, i wonder if the sights need some adjusting
the difference in weight with the frames may be that the Smith has a reinforced stainless steel chassis in the frame. not sure if the Glock has that. I own the Smith and Wesson M&P 40 and i absolutely LOVE IT!! Hickok is Glock biased..I'm Smith biased always have been.
The M&P compact can use full size mags and there is a grip extension available similar to the XD. As somebody else stated there is an ambi thumb safety model which I have. It is very intuative to disengage like a 1911 taking no extra time for the first shot. With as many people reporting negligent discharges when holstering their weapon (getting their clothing caught in the trigger etc) it makes sense to have the safety in my humble opinion.
If you think the M&Pc outperforms Glock, the full size absolutely dominates the Glock in shootability, comfort, and performance. All my opinions of coarse:)
The M+Pc has less recoil when firing, so that is also good. Plus it has a steel guide rod. If you IWB carry in front, the M+P is a little longer and pushes into your thigh a little more than G27. Or you could carry in back or hip.
I like the look and feel of the M+Pc better, the polymer feels sturdier, maybe a little thicker for that weight? But I like the G27 trigger pull and feel better.
You have larger hands, that makes it easier to shoot the Glocks too.
Wow, excellent shooting. Varied heights, distances, etc. The M+Pc fits my hand better than G27, and it shoots exactly where I point. G27 is a little lighter and shorter, so nicer to carry. Both are excellent. M+P needs a trigger job, the stock trigger is light, then is stiff to fire, the glock has smoother pull and break (stock). The pinkie mag ext. helps a lot with both firearms.
BTW: for the M+P, it is HARD to get 10rds mag into gun when 1 in chamber. Easier to have it 9+1.
Hickok I've shot lots of guns and own a few you sold me on glocks a few years ago The only guns I enjoy shooting are my glocks because right out of the box there so accurate. I bought another glock 30 thats the only gun I carry . good vid Sorry but it's your fault i wouldn't even consider that M&P Thanks Hickok
@paramikemunoz im not sure what weapon you've ever fired that wasnt accurate right out of the box and then somehow got more accurate by shooting it more.
@joeratti Now that sounds like a Kimber a break in time on the barrel will be more accurate after a few boxes of rounds well thats not for me like I said right the box they are accurate and with time shooting them I became a better shooter .I do own a few guns and I shoot and like them all just prefer the glock 30.
@paramikemunoz And I 'm sure I would like them M&P too I'd buy one but my wife said I have enough guns . '''no more " I'd got my money on it . Right out of the box from the reviews its accurate.
Looks like you favor the M&P hickok... I don't blame yah.. :D I own both glock and M&P and even though the glock feels more solid of a gun I always run back to my M&P....
Nice video. Considering getting an MP40C, due to the non-trigger pull requiring disassembly. Did you like shooting it? How was the tirgger pull? Was it accurate?
@bradleywalters1 I wouldn't let the disassembly be the deciding factor. In order to take down the M&P without pulling the trigger you have to have the mag out and the slide open to reach that wire you have to manipulate, at that point the gun is safety checked. It's one more step than the Glock, with the Glock you drop the mag rack the slide(gun is cleared) pull the trigger and off comes the slide, Glocks are simpler. But you really can't go wrong with either.
Love my G27, I put +2 mag extensions on all my mags so I can carry 11 + 1. And the loader that is shown is fantastic, worth every penny of the $30 I paid for it.
The weight seems easy enough to account for, the sights on the M&P are metal and the extra length in the M&P frame along with the dual slide release there is a little more weight in there. That weight does help tame some of the snap in recoil between the two. It really is a toss up between the two guns, feel both in hand and take the one that feels best. Great video comparison.
I'd be curious to know what you'd think of a M&P with an Apex trigger kit. I didn't like the stock M&P trigger, it felt a bit "mushy" to me. The Apex kit made it much more crisp and took a pound out of the pull.
Hickok, the Glock mags come with stiff springs if you just load them up to the max and let them sit loaded for about 2 weeks the springs will loosen and you will have no trouble loading them up after that.
Great video! I had the M&P in my hand in a shop the other day. I loved it! Like a glove! It seems to me that Glock makes a better CCW than other companies, but the full-sized pieces are pretty much the same as others. What do you think, Hickok?
Hickok45.......I was wanting to know your take on the smith and weson sigma 40ve...? I know it's a glock rip off...I have one:..I have an older model, mine never jams. Just wondering what u think about them...yes there cheap that's why I have one if I had the money I would have a glock just not in my budget at the time...
Some have suggested yet another defect in this pistol (you're cursed!), although I'm skeptical since you were able to hit the gong a few times. Just in case, however, some M&Ps suffer from premature barrel unlocking, which can negatively impact accuracy. When I pull back the slide on my M&P, the barrel and slide remain locked for a short distance before the barrel tilts (much like a Glock, and as accurate), but on defective pistols the barrel will tilt right away. This may be worth checking.
I love the line "When I put a Glock in my hand it is like coming home!" That sir is awesome! Thanks again for the fun videos. ZombieTacticalStore(dot)com : )
After looking at both ,a cutaway glock and a cutaway m&p40, now I might know where that extra weight in the frame is. The m&p pistols have steel sheets inserted in the polymer frame, around the areas where you have your pins and such, maybe to make em hold better ,I really don't know, but that might be the extra weight we see on the scale.
I've noticed that you mentioned the light trigger on the M&P, but are you sure it is stock? Many M&P owners install an Apex Tactical trigger kit that cleans it up, but also makes it a little lighter.
I got the Uplula loader too. Gets me some strange looks from people who think that it's silly, but it really is extremely handy. And after reloading a dozen magazines with it, most people admit that it's more comfy ;)
Watching your compact pistol vids tonight. I think there is still something wrong with the M&P. You can't hit anything with it. It seems the rounds are going all over the place, either high, low, or left. I saw the other vid where the slide gave out, but even after repair it just doesn't seem right. Now I don't know if you were just on the day you shot the SR9c, but you rocked that pistol, even a lot better than your Glock shooting. You might want to consider carrying that SR9c more often.
@coolusername2007 You may be right that something is still wrong with this particular M&P, although I have to wonder how hickok45 was ever able to hit the gong at 80 yards--let alone several times--if the gun's accuracy was so poor at half the distance. It could be something mechanical or it could be the trigger, which I've observed feels deceptively light for some people (including me until I got used to it), which somehow can result in the hand breaking downward at the last moment.
ok next you didnt say 2 things that the m&p does that the glock dont. adjustable backs straps, and slam the clip in and it cocks itself. more to come !!
@budweiser45331 Gen 4 Glocks have adjustable backstraps. Also the "self cock" is achievable with a glock as well if you know how to do it or if the slide lock is worn in a bit. The design of the M&P just makes it easier to do, but it was never the intention of the M&P designers to make the "self cock" a feature. It's just a by-product of the design.
ok you got a comment out of me on this vid ! first question beginging of the vid you shot the m&p awsome but at the end you couldnt hit anything with it? i know your a glock man. dont get me wrong here glock WAS the best hand gun till the m&p. glocks been out a very long time, m&p not very long at all S&W took all the bad things wrong with the glock (till gen 4 came out and did everything S&W did to the m&p) and made it better than the glock. American made means alot to me too. posttolongmoretoc
hey Hickok, could I ask, if you could do a video on your TOP 5 favourite handguns and why they're your favourites? and of course shoot them, no video is complete without your awesome skills.
I'd go for the Smith but they dont make high-cap factory mags. I'd rather buy American but Glock seems the better buy. I'll rent the Smith and try it out regardless.
I use the HKS loader sometimes when my thumb gets tired but I know what you mean about using them. When I told my buddy (who's a sheriff's deputy) I got one, he told me his departement issues them to the ladies.
Hickok, how bout testing the Springfield XD line of pistols in comparison to the Glock, Sig and S&W line of pistols? I know you are a glock fan and all, but I would like to see you do a run with an XD in your hand. I think Glocks are great pistols, however there are other pistols out there that can give it a run for its money to include the Springfield XD line.
@ThePress1000 There's no reason to modify any gun at all, really. With a quality arm, after market accessories and parts kits are totally unnecessary for most people. Even law enforcement and military users have little need to tinker much with a gun. The only ones that would ever benefit from lots of after market stuff on their gun is serious pro competition shooters, and that is the only thing that gun can ever be used for. Keeping guns bare bones keeps them light and versatile and simple.
I always know the glock is going to win out in most cases. But there is some SMALL part of me that would love to see a gun that is better than Glock? Not that I hate Glock or anything, but it would be neat to see some stiff competition
Hey Hickok, Loved this video! I've shot both (in 9mm mind you), and I can/will say... I like the Glock better- both are awesome, and if the Glock wasn't available, I'd pick the M&P over anything else out there, but... I can't feel bad about the outcome- Glock wins in my book!! Thanks for you awesome comparision! Take care, Pete D.---

@5Ring o i see..id rather go with no safety like the glock i have
JUKEBOXX1990 2 months ago
@JUKEBOXX1990 the m&p is available with or without a thumb safety depending on your preference
alross18058 2 months ago
I spent about 3 months trying to make the decision between these 2. I wanted to like the Glock more, but my choice was the S&W. I shot them both about 3 times each at the range. Two problems with the Glock I couldn't let go of. I couldn't get comfortable with the Glock with my pinky hanging off the gun. With the extended pinky mag, I kept pinching my pinky finger. Also, the snap of the recoil is more noticeable than the S&W. At least 1,500 rounds thru my S&W, I love it, but a few problems.

Hickok---could you do a comparison on the Glock 27 verses Sig P250 subcompact 40.
Mashburn84 3 months ago
I also have a Kel-tec P11 which is very comfortable to carry. It has the belt clip so no holster is needed. This makes it very thin when you consider it holds 12+1 9mm. To me, thinness is more important in CCW than barrel length when dealing with sub-compact guns. Hell, I've even carried my Ruger SR9 fullsize (17+1) IWB. It is about the same thickness as a 1911 and more comfortable than the G27 any day. Glocks published width for the G27 is across the slide not the grip which is thicker.
5Ring 3 months ago

Informative video. Thanks. You should change your channel name to HickGlock45. ;)

I will take the litltle larger frame of the M&P for the increased comfort and control.
chevychase84 4 months ago
I know you got that M&P used. Is it possible it's had a trigger job? I'm surprised the trigger pull would be lighter than the Glock. My understanding was it was a pound of two heavier. Thanks.

im looking into getting one of the two pistol and i was wondering if M&P magazines are interchangeable? putting the mag from a full size into compact just like glock pistols also if the barrels are interchangeable if i ever wanted to down size the 40 to 9mm buying one barrel which will fit both the m&p full size and compact just like the G23 and 27

great video by Hickok45, In watching the video, most of the misses with the M&P, to me looks like it was hitting/shooting low, i wonder if the sights need some adjusting
westgl2006 4 months ago
Smith and wesson must have been nervous the 1st time they saw this vid. Well, nothing cracked or flew off the gun, guess that's as good as it gets.
tccoup355 4 months ago
the difference in weight with the frames may be that the Smith has a reinforced stainless steel chassis in the frame. not sure if the Glock has that. I own the Smith and Wesson M&P 40 and i absolutely LOVE IT!! Hickok is Glock biased..I'm Smith biased always have been.
breatheeasy420 4 months ago
The M&P compact can use full size mags and there is a grip extension available similar to the XD. As somebody else stated there is an ambi thumb safety model which I have. It is very intuative to disengage like a 1911 taking no extra time for the first shot. With as many people reporting negligent discharges when holstering their weapon (getting their clothing caught in the trigger etc) it makes sense to have the safety in my humble opinion.
bartlana 5 months ago
If you think the M&Pc outperforms Glock, the full size absolutely dominates the Glock in shootability, comfort, and performance. All my opinions of coarse:)
lEgaLiZeVOLVE 5 months ago
The M+Pc has less recoil when firing, so that is also good. Plus it has a steel guide rod. If you IWB carry in front, the M+P is a little longer and pushes into your thigh a little more than G27. Or you could carry in back or hip.
I like the look and feel of the M+Pc better, the polymer feels sturdier, maybe a little thicker for that weight? But I like the G27 trigger pull and feel better.
You have larger hands, that makes it easier to shoot the Glocks too.
mokyan7 5 months ago
Wow, excellent shooting. Varied heights, distances, etc. The M+Pc fits my hand better than G27, and it shoots exactly where I point. G27 is a little lighter and shorter, so nicer to carry. Both are excellent. M+P needs a trigger job, the stock trigger is light, then is stiff to fire, the glock has smoother pull and break (stock). The pinkie mag ext. helps a lot with both firearms.
BTW: for the M+P, it is HARD to get 10rds mag into gun when 1 in chamber. Easier to have it 9+1.

paramikemunoz 6 months ago
@paramikemunoz im not sure what weapon you've ever fired that wasnt accurate right out of the box and then somehow got more accurate by shooting it more.
joeratti 6 months ago
@joeratti Now that sounds like a Kimber a break in time on the barrel will be more accurate after a few boxes of rounds well thats not for me like I said right the box they are accurate and with time shooting them I became a better shooter .I do own a few guns and I shoot and like them all just prefer the glock 30.

@hickok45
Nice video. Considering getting an MP40C, due to the non-trigger pull requiring disassembly. Did you like shooting it? How was the tirgger pull? Was it accurate?
bradleywalters1 7 months ago
@bradleywalters1 I wouldn't let the disassembly be the deciding factor. In order to take down the M&P without pulling the trigger you have to have the mag out and the slide open to reach that wire you have to manipulate, at that point the gun is safety checked. It's one more step than the Glock, with the Glock you drop the mag rack the slide(gun is cleared) pull the trigger and off comes the slide, Glocks are simpler. But you really can't go wrong with either.

realgungho 10 months ago
The weight seems easy enough to account for, the sights on the M&P are metal and the extra length in the M&P frame along with the dual slide release there is a little more weight in there. That weight does help tame some of the snap in recoil between the two. It really is a toss up between the two guns, feel both in hand and take the one that feels best. Great video comparison.
Skragg101 10 months ago
I'd be curious to know what you'd think of a M&P with an Apex trigger kit. I didn't like the stock M&P trigger, it felt a bit "mushy" to me. The Apex kit made it much more crisp and took a pound out of the pull.
exodipus 10 months ago
Hickok, the Glock mags come with stiff springs if you just load them up to the max and let them sit loaded for about 2 weeks the springs will loosen and you will have no trouble loading them up after that.

zhartford2 10 months ago
Some have suggested yet another defect in this pistol (you're cursed!), although I'm skeptical since you were able to hit the gong a few times. Just in case, however, some M&Ps suffer from premature barrel unlocking, which can negatively impact accuracy. When I pull back the slide on my M&P, the barrel and slide remain locked for a short distance before the barrel tilts (much like a Glock, and as accurate), but on defective pistols the barrel will tilt right away. This may be worth checking.

You might want to consider carrying that SR9c more often.
coolusername2007 10 months ago
@coolusername2007 You may be right that something is still wrong with this particular M&P, although I have to wonder how hickok45 was ever able to hit the gong at 80 yards--let alone several times--if the gun's accuracy was so poor at half the distance. It could be something mechanical or it could be the trigger, which I've observed feels deceptively light for some people (including me until I got used to it), which somehow can result in the hand breaking downward at the last moment.

budweiser45331 10 months ago
@budweiser45331 Gen 4 Glocks have adjustable backstraps. Also the "self cock" is achievable with a glock as well if you know how to do it or if the slide lock is worn in a bit. The design of the M&P just makes it easier to do, but it was never the intention of the M&P designers to make the "self cock" a feature. It's just a by-product of the design.

I think Glocks are great pistols, however there are other pistols out there that can give it a run for its money to include the Springfield XD line.
krazyrican2009 10 months ago
@ThePress1000 There's no reason to modify any gun at all, really. With a quality arm, after market accessories and parts kits are totally unnecessary for most people. Even law enforcement and military users have little need to tinker much with a gun. The only ones that would ever benefit from lots of after market stuff on their gun is serious pro competition shooters, and that is the only thing that gun can ever be used for. Keeping guns bare bones keeps them light and versatile and simple.
Makingnewnamesisdumb 10 months ago
