at 1:54 moira stewart introduces herself by her real name but is called darong in the credits.. and at 8:05 the guy calls Charmian by her real name not her character gnoard
Haha - saturday afternoons on BBC2 - I loved this show!! Total inventiveness and creativity on a 1970s BCC2 budget!! Loving this!! BBC- PLEASE release these on DVD! :-)
OMFG I LOVED this prog when I was young, looking back I see how middle class I was brought up, but looking back I realise why I as an 8 year old spent so much screaming at the tv, ie its a kids show, think like a kid u fecking over thinking adults, either that or get massively stoned, thats how the producers and actors did including "this is the news" Moira Stewart
@troybadoo hahahaha i think we were all middle class that watched this. I remember myself and my mates used to play this game during the summer holidays. We would use chalk and drew the shapes and colours on the slabs. And picked a square for the vortex at the end. - Rather sad now I think. Mind you better than sitting in fornt of a computer game. We did have lots of then.
@RussinTirnaNog I wasn't middle class, my family was poor and I still watched it. It's got nothing to do with class, it's got everything to do with intelligence and wit. Cheers.
Instead of seeing a kid's program that I used to watch and enjoy, I'm seeing shape-shifters and occult symbol programming! Thank you, internet, for warping my mind.
06:29 onwards - That ping pong ball puzzle made my brain ache!!!! How convoluted and complex was that?!!??!!?!??? It'd take weeks to work that one out!!!! Still, a classic TV show and an example of how long people's attention-spans were back in the 1980's (i.e they lasted a hell of a lot longer than the 10 second attention span of most viewers these days!!!).
reliving this really does tarnish my memory. Moira Stewart could just be reading the news at Breakfast as much as be an Argon. And as for the production... love the way the beeb gets frustrated and sends in a clue... "the combination is green and triangle, but we dont know why", Moira mutters under her breath, "just shut the fudge up and get on with it, Ive got to get over to studio two to report on the Falklands in twenty minutes... we havent got all day.
WOW!!!! I watched this like an insane person as a kid and until now I didn't realise Moira Stewart did this before the BBC news... then again I was 12 when it finished thanks for the happy flashback
The production values for this show were never great, but they never have been for kid's shows and probably never will be. In terms of challenges, they compare well with later game shows (the logic in Crystal Maze was no tougher and never involved puzzles in combination, same with Krypton Factor) and could be understood perfectly by the youngest viewer whilst still enjoyed by the oldest. Thanks for putting this up, the BBC never responded to my request for this on their youtube page.
Thank you so much for posting this and other epidodes. I'm 41 and remember this show from when it first aired. I even remember some of the puzzles after all these years. I'm gutted to read that the BBC actually erased some recordings just to save money. How short-sighted!
Why aren't there more shows like this today?
Looking back it seems like puzzle shows were in vogue in the 1980s. What's happened? Is it that people have computer games to play?
Was Peter Jones involved ?

The game with all the shapes on the floor was completely obscure. I often wondered whether they made up the rules as they went along.

Elisabeth Estensen was also in a comedy series in
the 1970's (made by the BBC) Called The Liver Birds.
