They don't use crazy dense metal which weigh down the car.. considering the car cost, fuel efficiency, the car did great. yeah VW and volvo make their cars like tanks, but look at their fuel efficiency and the weight of the car. Plus the car cost is a lot more then kia.. so take all those things into consideration.

yo stupid jealous check euroncap ratings for soul it received 87% for adult occupant and 86% for child occupant while the infinti 2009 fx37 received 86% for adult and 77% for child occupant soul is one of the safest cars on the road check it by urself looser euroncapdotcom and i might also use ur :D:D:D:D:D

hmm....i quite like kias TBH...but the headrest may be a flaw they have to work on.

i currently do work experience at a garage and they are repairing a kia picanto. 2009 done 500 miles and crashed at 30 mph. the only thing thats broken is the bumper which can be repaired and the left side chassis leg is bent and twisted so it will have to be jigged. other then that it starts and everytihng. safe cars (:

the headrest is an "ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT" it protects ur head and neck during a crash : the distance between airbag and headrest is shorter though limiting brain and neck injuries... search for active head restraint and see for urself it's a new way of protection in car crashes this is technology dude !!!!! most of 2010 cars have this system...

and yeah kias are safe i have a 2007 rio had an horrible accident at about 30mph and crashed into a 1998 pathfinder at 30 mph also.. its hard to believe for some people but the pathfinder received more damage..

That part of the housing is suppose to do that. Those are active head restraints and they move up an forward to cradle the head an neck.

Looks very safe! Something I don't understand though. This Soul is based on the Rio, and the Rio didn't do nearly as well. It did fairly poorly like most little cars. So why did the Soul do so much better if it's based on the Rio?

i have a rio 2007 got totaled in a worse accident i didn't even get scratched and the soul is even better because it's higher and newer check euroncapdotcom and see that it's one of the safest things to drive on the road safer than bmw 5 series infiniti fx range rover dodge... :)

@palebeachbum Soul is not based on the Rio, Rio platform is too small, Rio is based on the Accent. The soul is based on the Elantra platform. Thats why they have the same engine options and suspension system.

If you are not a road scorcher, car is reliable. Soul has the same engine that my Elantra has but it has been updated for better performance. This engine is clean and dependable. I have put up 1.5k shy of 100k on mine and it still runs like a new.  You will not be disappointed.
