The most beautiful thing is that she skated with an extraordinary joy and a smile on her face: she was smiling before starting skating... incredible... it makes you happy!
@rosemars8 I always adored how Michelle felt and interpreted the music(as well as how her music editi8ng flowed seamlessly from one piece to another). Peggy was right, she does take you on her journey of emotions. I too so wish there was a skater like her out there these days.
I wish we could see this without the annoying commentary. This is a beautiful performance to beautiful music. Every movement is perfectly choreographed.
I do agree, however, that Michelle showed more drama and passion in some of her later performances--Tosca, Aranjuez, in particular. Michelle is like the star baseball pitcher who, when his fastball starts to slow down a bit, continues to win games with his technique.
Button said it best: "Honesty is central to her skating."
That is it in a nutshell. Whereas others, as much as I enjoyed them (Tara, Sasha, Irina, Maria, Kristi, Sarah, etc) acted on the ice, Kwan felt it and lived it. She was authentic and that's what made her the icon today.
Don't get me wrong, Michelle handled the defeat in 1998 with poise, dignity, and grace, and she was still a great skater after it. However, after the '98 Olympics there was definitely a change in Michelle Kwan... She was no longer the peaceful, joyous skater she was at nationals... From then on she became a passionate and somewhat vengeful skater even.
@ilikeatingcats I think her later years she began skating like a woman. I love this performance, but the passion you mention as well as this sensual quality really made her special in a whole other way later on. You can say she lost a bit of her innocence from 1998.
1998 was a year of joy in terms of Michelle's skating. However, her defeat that year at the Olympics created a dark fire inside her that ultimately held her back when it counted most. Compare this performance, for instance, to her rendition of it at the 2002 Olympic games. In 1998 she skated it with joy, in 2002 she skated it with darkness and revenge. I think had she retained this joy in her skating she would have won in 2002 and become an even more decorated figure skater than she is currently
How many skaters are out there that we can say they've performed magical performances like this.. MULTIPLE times in their career? There may be a few performances from others that stick out, but Michelle? 96 World LP, 98 Nationals SP & LP, 2000 World LP, 2001 National SP, 2001 World LP, 2002 National LP, 2003 National LP, 2003 World SP & LP, 2004 Nationals LP, 2005 Nationals SP.. I'm sure I'm missing some. That many times!! Def. one of the most breathtaking skaters who will ever live!
How can people not like this? 7 clean triple jumps, beautiful edges, choreography, presentation, technique... If anyone is still campaigning the injustice of her winning should stop. Tara underrotated her second triple loop, her double axel has no kick, she was late finishing her program and she flutzes.
This was exquisite from start to finish. If I was a sculptor, I would do a bronze of Michelle in that final pose... it just seems to sum up what beautiful skating is all about.
@RevShaqueefa It's on the Aunt Joyce's Ice Cream Stand blog. Look in the July 2011 archive. Her comment about Michelle being one of the greatest skaters ever is near the end of Part 1.
as much as I can enjoy her skating, as graceful she is...This program. the music, the choreography seems really boring to me...not one move that suprised me...:S Anyways she is beautiful!
No words can describe what Michelle Kwan has always meant to me!!! She is a gorgeous skater and so artistic and passionate!!! I cry every time. Michelle will always be in my heart. Best skater to never win gold. Yeah Sahsa is flexible, but Michelle is the whole package my friends!!!
No doubt about it: history will always remember Michelle Kwan as one of the most memorable and greatest champions of all time, a true artist on the ice. She may have not won the olympic gold medal but she did conquer people's hearts all over the world... I'm from Finland and I will never forget her performances over the years. It's wonderful to relive some of those magical moments on YouTube so thank you so much for the uploads!
BEAUTIFUL.... she is my olympic champion. i cry everytime i watch her get those perfect 6.0 that NOBODY ELSE will ever get in the competition of ice skating ever. She will the be holding this record for the rest of her life. I love you Michelle
I am surprised why Tara (a.k.a. getrealandsee, allengslandlawns, etc.) still has not been banned in many videos when many uploaders have already deleted Tara's kilometric vitriolic comments. She posts ONLY to bash Michelle, ruining the experience for those who just want to enjoy the video.
BITTER MUCH, TARA LIPINSKI? Using multiple usernames getrealandsee, allengslandlawns, ithinkformyself, kwansangsog, cleareyed, etc. doesn't really hide the jealousy and grudge you hold against Kwan for the legendary status she has achieved and for the, as posters have put it succinctly, the UGLY, CAREERLESS, HAS-BEEN you have become.
@midnightblusky I agree. Or move the mouse to the right of the troll's posts and click the thumbs down instead of responding. If enough people do it, the troll's posts will disappear.
I both like yuna and kwan and kwan should have earned an olympic medal, it was just really really bad lucl. Kwan and yuna sort of make me feel the same when I watch them, so i am saying that the medal of yuna is finally the deserved medal of kwan. so SHUT THE FUCK UP :)
I'm all for freedom of speech, but is there a way that "getreal" and "allengland" can be blocked from Kwan clips?
YES, his/her comments are destroying the joy in watching this legendary skater, and it's been going on for years. The comments are borderline racist, hateful, NOT accurate, and are indicative of a VERY deranged mind. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
@getrealandsee I FEEL that Michelle Kwan is the greatest female figure skater of time. I am confident with my opinions about her and other skaters. I don't make these off-the-cuff statements about them PERSONALLY. Stop trying to pass off your theories about Kwan as fact! You once stated that you hate it when people gush over Kwan. When are you going to realize that your posts (personal attacks) are ineffectual? You try to impose your will on others. You DO have a vendetta against Kwan... Why?
@strawberrykiwi20a She lost in Nagano bc Tara outright beat her whether Kwan skated first or last. The judges awarded the Olympic Gold to the best skater and that was Tara by a long shot.
@DreamsinWhite, thank you again for posting this. It shames me that figure skating fans can get more crude and ugly than football fans. I love this performance, and I have loved almost every skate that Michelle ever did. Regarding those skaters whose styles I did not love? I have more important things to do than to post ugly words against other skaters.
If anyone feels that the heated arguments get intolerably out of hand, please say so. I guess I should run a more critical eye over the posts and do some deleting or even blocking. Somewhat reluctantly though, as long as I’m quite an open-minded person, all for freedom of speech and taking the bad with the good (plus constructive criticism is always as good as accolades:). However, I don’t want the enjoyment of the fans be marred by non-sensical critique.
@DreamsInWhite, I completely agree with you. However why would you even let getrealandsee get carried away with her obnoxious tirade instead of having her completely blocked from posting in Michelle Kwan's forum? She is always finding ways to use other figure skaters as a way to purposely bash on Michelle Kwan. I am getting sick and tired of reading all of these dumb postings. Michelle Kwan is not ours for the purpose of bullying.
@anne91276 Getrealandsee has so many usernames that it is impossible to fully block him...any person who is so vulgar and sick as to accuse Michelle of performing sex acts to earn an Olympic berth is going to find a way to spew venom. Most people just ignore him, but I actually take delight in confronting the idiot and demonstrating just how unintelligent he truly is.
MissThingSings I see what you mean... But Michelle Kwan doesn't deserve to have someone like Getrealandsee to provoke something so outrageous. In a way Getrealandsee reminds me of Tonya Harding because , they behaved like arrogant people, so highly overrated. Michelle Kwan was absolutely a natural athlete the last time I saw her in a show many years ago at the Cow Palace, in California near 101. That was also the year I first saw Sasha and Oksana Baiul perform on ice.
@anne91276 You are right, Michelle doesn't deserve it. She was not just a legendary champion, but she is such a lady and lovely person...an amazing representative for her country and for the sport. No doubt, this is why Yuna Kim named Michelle her hero. After reading many of his posts over the past few months, IMO Getrealandsee is not just mentally ill, but also racist...no matter how extraordinary Michelle is, Getrealandsee is always going to hate her because she is Asian IMO.
Oh come on. You people are arguing over the internet with people you probably don't even KNOW, much less will ever MEET, about an ice skater. The other person's opinions will never affect you, nor will they affect the ice skater you are rooting for. If theta is the case - please tell me what is the point of all this arguing? Exactly. It's pointless. What are you doing with your lives?
@anubethc45 Sasha could never do a clean skate at a major like Michelle... No, Tonya is a disgrace to this sport... I actually prefer Michelle's spirals to Sasha's (her edging and speed was much better). I feel that Michelle Kwan is the greatest female figure skater of all time (no one can touch her when she's at her best).
To state how much I like this program, just watch her arms from 2:25 to 2:40. It is so exquisitely timed and in character to the music. Also note at 3:57, it looks like she grabbed a diamond from the heavens and gifted it to the audience in that spiral. Beautiful choreography by Lori. That said, Kwan still lacked courage and skill to push herself like Tara and Sarah and perform like champions when it truly mattered at the Olympics. Her arrogance and ignorance made her a complete phony and loser.
@allenglandlawns You go from gushing over Kwan's choreography to calling her arrogant, ignorant, and "a complete phony of a loser"... I can't imagine what you think of Sasha... you must think she is the devil incarnate... oh wait, you love her. Your arguments do not contain even the slightest semblance of rationality or logic. Please stop needlessly bashing Kwan as a person. Comment on the skating. (For the record, I am just using Sasha as a fitting counterpoint,,, I think she is lovely)
@ehrenaissance I give Kwan credit for pretty skating, but her style is completely UNFIT for the amateur ranks. She made the sport a complete joke with her simple programs that just involve pretty arm waving and facial expressions. It's pretty to watch, but ultimately it's sappy and belongs in ice shows. Sasha never held it together, but she had skill and courage to skate truly difficult athletic AND artistic routines. Kwan skates pretty, but is a JOKE in real athletic competitions.
@allenglandlawns Simple programs? Once again, most of Michelle's programs were far from simple (in terms of choreography and having 7 triples). Sasha was athletic? Sasha was one of the WORST jumpers that this sport ever had! She could never skate a clean LP at a major like Michelle did. Sasha's artistry was so repetitious (she was nowhere near as versatile with her artistry as Kwan was). Sasha was truly a loser (she was the one who should have done ice shows).
@Karosanyo Bc the gushing over such a liar and phony is disgusting and the truth that she trashed such a great sport for so many years needs to be said.
@allenglandlawns We can't hear you: you're being drowned out by the countless spontaneous standing ovations given to Michelle Kwan, even at her practice sessions.
But don't repeat yourself: that drowning out is permanent.
@allenglandlawns We can't hear you. You're being drowned out by the countless spontaneous standing ovations given Michelle Kwan, even at her practice sessions.
But don't repeat yourself: you're being drowned out is PERMANENT.
@allenglandlawns You think that Michelle was gifted the SP at the '98 Olympics? No way! Her performance put Tara's to shame (I think that's the best SP of all time). Tara and Sarah admitted that they liked being underdogs after losing the SP (only ONE female has skated her very best after winning the SP, and that person hit their all time peak there). Tara and Sarah won when Kwan didn't skate her very best...
this is not all about the perfection of every move you make or how great your triple axel is.. its about how you touch every audience's heart, figure skating is supposed to be full of passion or emotion.. what happened to that now? this is why michelle kwan is a legend.. she skates with heart....
@getrealandsee No my dear, the pity is for a useless life, like the one you are obviously living. Reflection dear. My guess is in your life off line you are just as bitter or mask it with mounds of hypocrisy. Either way, I pity you immensely.

My favorite Michelle program, but we all know what happened in Nagano . Even at her best, she still got run over by Tara who is a true champion in every sense of the word. Olympic judges aren't gonna buy into that "skate with my heart" nonsense but reward Tara who had courage, guts, and athletic firepower that characterizes every true champion in any sport.
@allenglandlawns Michelle Kwan was not at her very best at Nagano (you and I have been over this time and time again). This National performance puts Tara's Olympic performance to shame. Michelle's National and Olympic performances were like night and day ( some of her jumps were far from perfect in Nagano as well).
@Karosanyo Why hello again =). When there's a time to skate your best, it's the Olympics. What, did Tara whack Michelle in the knee with a crowbar before the warmup? Kwan said it herself she skated her best and her best was NOT good enough. Tara nailed it with courage, fire, and grace in the most difficult routine to win when it counted. Total BEATDOWN by Tara.
@allenglandlawns Yes, Michelle called her performance "stale"... Do you really think that her Olympic skate was as good as her National skate? Her jumps were not as solid and she was off with her music. Who has skated their very best after winning the SP at the Olympics? Tara always beat Michelle when Michelle did not skate her very best. Michelle still gave a great performance (better than all of the previous OGM winners).
@Karosanyo Hypothetically, if Kwan's nationals were against Tara's Olympics? Hmm, I'd still go with Tara bc of the more difficult program for sure. And Yuna skated the program of a lifetime even after that record breaking short program which makes Yuna a true champion and even MORE so far ahead of Kwan. Anyway, this is a very pretty performance and program by Kwan here and she deserved the win at this nationals.
@allenglandlawns There is no way that I would go with Tara's Olympic performance over Michelle's National performance. Michelle's artistry, jumps, lines, spiral, ice coverage and spins were MUCH better. Tara's lutzes were atrocious, her jumps were small, and I still dislike those resting spots. All is Tara had over Michelle were her triple-triples (her salchow was shaky in her sequence as well). Yes, Yuna truly hit her all time peak at those Olympics (she never had a clean LP at a major).
@allenglandlawns She was very lucky. I think that Yuna's performances at those Olympics were overrated (I never liked her SP and her LP was pretentious). Yuna even took some choreography from Michelle's Rach for her LP. I liked Michelle '98 National performance better than Yuna's Olympic performance. I will still take Michelle over Yuna any day.
@allenglandlawns T(i)ara's program was only "more difficult" -- for T(i)ara -- because she had to pretend the tacked-on "artistry" actually fit with her childish "athleticism".
@getrealandsee Get real hon, you've been at your trolling for years and obviously are just some bitter hag with no life. Michelle Kwan is enjoying her life and the fruits of her labor while you......well still after all this time have no life and are relegated to making up one alias after another in your deranged hatred for a woman that could not care less what you think because your hate only consumes you.
Wow that is true even tho tara won gold she is not remembered n kwan is a legend n she didnt win gold, u know i never thought of that. Sarah hughes trash won gold n never won anything alse as well as tara i wish that even after they won gold still try to compete after that :(
I have to admit, it is a bit weird to periodically come to a Kwan performance to enjoy it, year after year, and see that getreal is STILL posting :) It's sort of sad actually.
@mlc2005 Sad and very telling...this is why I am positive that Getrealandsee (AKA Allenglandlawns) is not just some random loon...I believe she is either a former competitor of Michelle's or the parent/relative of a former competitor. There can be no other rational explanation for YEARS of hateful obsession. Getreal is sick and embarrassing IMO...
@MissThingSings That's just Tara L using multiple usernames, lol! Still bitter that her 15 minutes of fame led her nowhere, whereas Kwan has become a legend even without that Olympic gold...
@joselitog1 ROFLOL!! Now THAT is hilarious! Getrealcrazy is one big nut IMO...she has been posting for YEARS about Michelle, vicious post after vicious post...no fan would harbor so much hatred. Getreal (AKA Allenglandlawns) is a former competitor...one who wishes she had 9 nationals, 5 worlds and LEGENDARY status!
@getrealandsee Sweetheart, that you have posted DAILY for YEARS about someone you despise is proof that your sickness if far from "supposed"...you lust for attention, which you aren't special enough to get in your private life, and so you get it by behaving like gutter trash on youtube. You and your multiple personas aren't fooling anyone...as far as Michelle being a loser, she never lost to Kimmie Meissner at World's like your beloved Sasha did LOLOL!!!
@anubethc45 I agree with every word...she is demented and she certainly invents nonsense to support her demented views. And, she posts under more than one username so that she can agree with herself! Absolutely nuts!
@RothdeMan I don't think I've encountered anyone on youtube so obsessed with posting about someone they hate so much. I truly suspect that Getrealandsee (AKA Allenglandlawns) is either one of Michelle former competitors or the relative of one of Michelle's former competitors. The depth of envy and bitterness goes beyond that of an ordinary fan IMO. This has to be someone who was directly impacted by Michelle's success...truly sick.
@anubethc45 Okay, the comparison of getrealandsee to Helen Thomas has me roaring out loud! Hysterical LOL! The woman, and I use the term loosely, is 100% nuts! I have never, ever seen such anger, envy and foolishness in my life. She's OBSESSED with Michelle...filled with rage and hatred for someone she doesn't even know!
I didn't know that the Olympics had their own special judges who are superior to the judges at every other skating competition. Oh wait, they don't. I agree that Sarah Hughes and Tara Lipinski restored figure skating's credibility. Thanks to them and their Olympic golds, wrong-edge takeoffs on lutz jumps and under-rotations are now penalized!
@getrealandsee Only an idiot would claim that Sasha Cohen was shafted during her career. You don't win if you aren't ever able to skate cleanly. Duh!!!!!!!!!
@getrealandsee, I am not sure I know what you mean by your comment...would you mind explaining to me what you are saying/implying??? Thanks...discovery318.
Without a doubt, Michelle Kwan will go down/has gone down in history as one of, if not the most, decorated and respected female figure skater in history..certainly in American figure skating history! Her passion, emotion, and artistry is unmatched. Even the competitions she didn't win (which were very few) she was very gracious and professional. Like someone posted earlier, the fact that we are still watching her videos and talking about her after all of these years speaks highly of her impact.
Biggest injustice of all is Tara wining the 98 Olympics skating to a song from a cartoon. A cartoon, people! While Michelle skated not only maturely but to a mature music, by Alwyn and a real Satie in the middle.
@citizenlen I MUCH prefer Michelle's music. The Rachmaninoff was epic and Lyra Angelica was effervescent. Unfortunately, it's not about the choice of music, but the actual performance on ice when it counted most.
@allenglandlawns Michlle kwan is the Gold Standard. Mihelle Kwan is the text. Lipinski, huges, cohen -- at best footnoes. Kwan: 54 perfect 6.0s. Second highest: Boitano, with 9. How many did Lipinski, Huges, and Cohen win combined?
"When it matters" is every instance that matters, not only the one you distort all out of proportion. Kwan an unprecedented 42 Golds, crushing Lipinski, Cohen, and Hughes numerous times each. Longevity supercedes one-time-only fluke.

@JNagarya Oh please, I'm sure the Kwan, as would any other athlete, would rather have the 98 olympics than 98 nationals on their resume. She crapped up TWICE at the most important event in her skating life even with pre-determined scores.
@getrealandsee Yet another one of these. Did you get tired of fighting for justin beeber and decided to add a little "lets all get together and hate Michelle to your damnedable day" Jesus can you people ever stop hating this woman? Still got it going huh??
Okay. You speak for all the haters out there. How is she a phoney? When was your relationship with her so that you would have information about her personal behavior. A whiner when?
It is a testament to her appeal as an athlete and as an artist that people are still watching this performance and commenting 13 years later. I grew up alongside her and felt I knew her personally. In my eyes, she is the most feminine skater. I feel bad that she never won Olympic gold. But she has got to be proud that she has influenced a generation who themselves won and will win gold.Long live Michelle...Queen of the Ice.
Viewers who come and take the time to post on this video were obviously intrigued by Michelle Kwan in some, whether you support her or feel the need to leave snark comments. Michelle thanks all of you for increasing her popularity.
Bring this back to skating, please. Forget all these triple/triple combinations and such and get back to THIS. THIS is what moves us all. THIS is what figure skating is.
This is undoubtedly my favorite performance of hers. So light and elegant, just a joy to watch. I especially love the way she uses her arms--they're always so beautifully extended and add so much to the choreography. Not to mention her posture, which is wonderful to see after seeing so many skaters today who can't seem to stand up straight. If only she could have skated this performance at the Olympics! But even without her Olympic gold, she's certainly one of the best ever. Tara and Sarah who?
in the '98 winter olympics, michelle kwan's bad luck to have been chosen to start the lady's program due to the fact that the judges reserve giving higher marks at the beginning. IMHO she was robbed of the gold medal. if she skated in the mid to bottom of the roster, the figure skating history books would be rewritten.
@delonedotorg Whether she skates 1st or last, she still skated as beautiful. If they're going to undermark Michelle, they need to undermark everyone else. Those marks were terrible and i can't believe they gave her the silver medal just because she skated first. Not even one 6.0, but a 5.7? She was truly robbed. Those marks were the most disappointing. How dare they even think of giving someone else the gold medal.
yes, absolutely agree with you. figure skating is one sport where the athlete's diplay of skill really isn't the deciding factor. the judges control the outcome...throw in a couple of unscrupulous judges and you have a biased reult.
we all feel for her...but we do not pity. some would argue that the olympic gold is the pinnacle of sports... but her achievements are far more greater than just winning an olympic gold medal, and not winning the gold does not lessen her illustrious career. her ability to handle the scrutiny of coming in second and constantly displaying her public persona with every ounce of her humbleness is what truly defines her character as the greatest ladies figure skater of our time.
@delonedotorg yeah, but she would have retired much earlier I feel and we would have missed some marvelous and iconic performances! I think in the end all is well....she is still THE MOST FAMOUS OF ALL TIME! Love her!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@delonedotorg OMG she was HAPPY with skating first. It worked for her in the short program where she was also gifted 1st place. Deluded Kwan fanatics find the most trivial things to justify themselves that their goddess was robbed. Kwan skated her best and flat out got CREAMED by Tara fair and square. Simple as that!
@allenglandlawns I love how you avoid answering or retorting back at the really tough questions, like what you're doing with your time and life and why you keep trolling, because deep down you know the truth is pathetic. I pity you, I really do. I hope your life is not really as sad as you portray it to be, because no one should feel that small. I hope you are in fact a sound person and not a lunatic as you seem on the internet. Good luck to you.
yuna may have won the gold, and deserving she was..... but she is who she and is driven by the passion and love for her sport because of michelle kwan's legacy.
Michelle Kwan may not have won the OGM, but her skating changed the sport by raising the level of quality in jumps AND presentation! Not only that, her programs (from many different competitions - nationals, grand prix, worlds, etc.) are *memorable* - how many past OGM can say that!
Michelle Kwan changed Ice Skating into a beautiful artistic sport. The obsession over the jumps may be what the judges wanted but for me Michelle knew how to make the audience feel the emotion of the program. Michelle is by far the most decorated and well known female figure skater.
The troll who stalks Michelle's videos doesn't know anything about skating. She/it doesn't know a lutz from Utz potato chip. Enough thumbs down and the posts will disappear.
Even though Tara won the Olympics in 1998, I think Michelle was the undisputed best skater that season as a whole. Her programs were timeless, classic, and represented what skating should be. It was unlucky for her she skated in a time that the sport was moving in the jumping and more athletic direction.
@getrealandsee lack of shame? Called boldness, and its not even true. And actually, the only time she's near a camera is when they film her skating routines, and they invite her to interviews. Even if it seems that way, your still prejudiced. You can't say personal tyhings unless you personally know her. So, get stuffed. Peace out. Yes, Tara did beat Michelle, but Michelle didn't whine about it! And anyone who saw her skate before could DEFINATELY tell she was worried about falling, wouldnt u?
@getrealandsee And everyone knows that Sarah Hughes's win was a big fluke. I know that if the Olympics were every year that Michelle would have one. She has 5 World titles. She was so close. That's why I question the importance of the Olympics. Will Tara and Sarah be placed above Kwan in the history books? Hell no (unless you're ignorant to FS). I'll take Irina, Lu Chen, Janet Lynn, and even Sasha over those two. I guess that they're all losers as well...
@Karosanyo That's true though. I think the Olympics being the "most important" shouldn't be called the most important because some skaters get lucky that at the time of their peak, it is during the Olympic season. Michelle Kwan may not have won an Olympic gold medal, but look at her consistency and five world titles. These should be most important.
Tara has stated that she didn't feel any pressure (being in second place after the short helped). Can give make a link where Tara stated that she had an injury at those Games? Yes, Kwan did injure her toe before the Olympics, and she pulled her groin for the 2006 Games. But I know that YOU don't want to hear that. That's how your mind works. You're obsessed. And please elaborate on these "facts". I want to hear them from YOU.
@Karosanyo I guess that Evis Stojko and Kurt Browning are "nothing". I guess that Peter O Toole is a bad actor because he never won an Oscar. Yes, Cuba Gooding JR is a better actor than him because he has an Oscar. Please. You sound so ignorant and bitter. Please get another hobbie and stop making a fool out yourself on Michelle Kwan's videos on Youtube. Thanks.
@Karosanyo Who has skated their very best at the Olympics? I think that Yuna hit her all time peak at the Olympics (and not even doing a triple loop). I think that was her only clean skate at a major. Good for her. No, I don't think Michelle's performance was as great as her National performance, but it WAS better than all of the previous OGM winners. She landed seven triples. I think that Michelle's National skate was better than Tara's Olympic skate.
@getrealandsee Your prejudiced. You do not know Michelle Kwan on any personal level. With full respect, Skating is nothing personal, but teqnical and artistic. Though your opinions on her skill isnt positive, its still an opinion. You have no right to belitte her personally. how would you ever know if she is honest, truthful, or has integrity/ or do you stalk her?
Take a chill pill, everyone. Peace......Tara deserved Gold, because Michelle said she wasnt at her best. You have to accept the fact that we ALL have different opinions. To some, Yuna is so much better, to some Kwan is. So why fight? Opinions are NOT facts, whether or not you say it is a "fact" that the others are better. Accept we all have different favorites.
@Karosanyo i agree wholeheartedly and fully. He cannot asses or attack her personally on any level besides prejudice, since he does NOT indeed know her personally. If so, i think hes vocabulary would change in a immense way. He way perceive such things, but that is definitely still prejudice. Hes opinions are not valid, they are opinions. Not facts. Tara and Michelle are both wonderful, magical skaters that i enjoy watching. Getrealandsee should begin not saying anything if nothing nice.
@getrealandsee Yes, I feel like Michelle was a great skater (the most influential of her generation). YOU may disagree and that's fine. But don't come on here acting like your theories are valid. You're calling her a "loser" again? Projection....
@getrealandsee YOU have a truly twisted obsession with Michelle Kwan. It's really amusing how much she gets to you. And we're not "slaming" other skaters to defend Michelle. We're just stating what we dislike about their SKATING. This sport is highly subjective. We're not just throwing around vindictive statements to attack them PERSONALLY. YOU have a vendetta against Michelle. A complete stranger to you. Your views have been solipsistic and slanderous.
@getrealandsee Who the hell is your favorite skater then, hmm? I see you in nearly every Michelle Kwan video, and never anywhere else except for a couple of Sasha Cohen videos. So who do YOU like?
Does anyone even remember the two "hags" who STOLE THE OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALS from Michelle??? No we do not!!! This woman will FOREVER be QUEEN OF THE ICE!!! Hughes and Lipinski faded faster then they came on the skating scene! They were sent to rob this woman of Olympic Gold Glory!!! Truth be told, Michelle Kwan will always be a WINNER TO US ALL!!!!!!!!!!!
@getrealandsee And a "loser"? Projection, dare I say? She has won 5 World titles! Three out of five with a seven triples (two with the triple/triple). She deserved every one of them. Tara's style was very forced and robotic. She was more of a roller skater than an ice skater. I also disliked Sarah Hughes's skating (her posture and cheated jumps were awful). I don't care if they have the OGM. I know a lot of great actors that haven't won Oscars. I also know a lot of mediocre actors that have...
@Karosanyo Agreed. There have been more fluke, come and go athletes that have won big titles. Look at tennis: Francesca Schiavone won a Grand Slam this year, and we may not hear of her since then. Anastasia Myskina won the French, Iva Majoli,
@getrealandsee She just lacked the speed and passion of her National performance (her jumps weren't as perfect as well). I'll take her performance over Oksana Baiul's LP (where she only landed two clean triples) and Katrina Witt's performances (two and four triples in her '84 and '88 wins). Now those skaters were overrated! Michelle landed SEVEN TRIPLES (she wasn't all smiles and tears like those two). What "mess" are you talking about? You're talking out of your ass.
@getrealandsee Her spirals are atrocious. I find it so funny that you hate Yuna's favorite skater. She even "borrowed" some of Michelle's choreography (from her Rach short program ) for her Olympic LP (where she caressess her chest and arms). I find Michelle's '98 National performance to be better than Yuna's Olympic LP. There was so much passion and emotion in that performance. I also find it better than Tara's Olympic LP. Michelle skated really well at the '98 Olympics.
@getrealandsee I see that you're back to moderate on Michelle's videos... Just the same repetitious nonsense. All of your views are ridiculously asinine and fallacious. Why would you watch a skater that you hate over and over? You just preach the Gospel according to Getrealandsee. Lol, a "butterfly"? I don't think so! I find Yuna's skating to be pretentious and her artistry forced. She's really cold. She's like a blank slate (you can see the wheels turning). She's far from elegant.
Stop BASHING, people! I love Kim Yuna, but first, I think you make her as well as yourselves look trashy talking about other skaters like that. You know these two are friends in real life, right? Yuna'd be ashamed if she knew you were talking like this about her skating idol. Second--this video has NOTHING to do with her! Do you see a single mention of Kim Yuna anywhere in this video? It's MICHELLE KWAN's performance.
I don't even know what to say!!! That was so AMAZING!!! Best skater ever!!

Michelle is like the star baseball pitcher who, when his fastball starts to slow down a bit, continues to win games with his technique.
idolfan9495 2 months ago 3

From then on she became a passionate and somewhat vengeful skater even.
ilikeatingcats 3 months ago
@ilikeatingcats I think her later years she began skating like a woman. I love this performance, but the passion you mention as well as this sensual quality really made her special in a whole other way later on. You can say she lost a bit of her innocence from 1998.
RevShaqueefa 3 months ago in playlist RevShaqueefa's favorites
1998 was a year of joy in terms of Michelle's skating. However, her defeat that year at the Olympics created a dark fire inside her that ultimately held her back when it counted most. Compare this performance, for instance, to her rendition of it at the 2002 Olympic games. In 1998 she skated it with joy, in 2002 she skated it with darkness and revenge. I think had she retained this joy in her skating she would have won in 2002 and become an even more decorated figure skater than she is currently
ilikeatingcats 3 months ago
If this had been the Olympics, she would have won, no question. If she had performed like this in Nagano, it would have been way more than enough.

Michelle Kwan is not ours for the purpose of bullying.

That was also the year I first saw Sasha and Oksana Baiul perform on ice.
anne91276 1 month ago
@anne91276 You are right, Michelle doesn't deserve it. She was not just a legendary champion, but she is such a lady and lovely person...an amazing representative for her country and for the sport. No doubt, this is why Yuna Kim named Michelle her hero. After reading many of his posts over the past few months, IMO Getrealandsee is not just mentally ill, but also racist...no matter how extraordinary Michelle is, Getrealandsee is always going to hate her because she is Asian IMO.

Kwan skates pretty, but is a JOKE in real athletic competitions.
allenglandlawns 9 months ago
@allenglandlawns Simple programs? Once again, most of Michelle's programs were far from simple (in terms of choreography and having 7 triples). Sasha was athletic? Sasha was one of the WORST jumpers that this sport ever had! She could never skate a clean LP at a major like Michelle did. Sasha's artistry was so repetitious (she was nowhere near as versatile with her artistry as Kwan was). Sasha was truly a loser (she was the one who should have done ice shows).

@allenglandlawns You think that Michelle was gifted the SP at the '98 Olympics? No way! Her performance put Tara's to shame (I think that's the best SP of all time).

Total BEATDOWN by Tara.
allenglandlawns 9 months ago

Anyway, this is a very pretty performance and program by Kwan here and she deserved the win at this nationals.
allenglandlawns 9 months ago
@allenglandlawns There is no way that I would go with Tara's Olympic performance over Michelle's National performance. Michelle's artistry, jumps, lines, spiral, ice coverage and spins were MUCH better. Tara's lutzes were atrocious, her jumps were small, and I still dislike those resting spots. All is Tara had over Michelle were her triple-triples (her salchow was shaky in her sequence as well). Yes, Yuna truly hit her all time peak at those Olympics (she never had a clean LP at a major).
Karosanyo 9 months ago
@allenglandlawns She was very lucky. I think that Yuna's performances at those Olympics were overrated (I never liked her SP and her LP was pretentious).

I like the 1996 routine the best but routine is my second best. Lovely presentation and even her dress is nice.

in the '98 winter olympics, michelle kwan's bad luck to have been chosen to start the lady's program due to the fact that the judges reserve giving higher marks at the beginning. IMHO she was robbed of the gold medal. if she skated in the mid to bottom of the roster, the figure skating history books would be rewritten.
delonedotorg 1 year ago 42
@delonedotorg Whether she skates 1st or last, she still skated as beautiful. If they're going to undermark Michelle, they need to undermark everyone else. Those marks were terrible and i can't believe they gave her the silver medal just because she skated first. Not even one 6.0, but a 5.7? She was truly robbed. Those marks were the most disappointing. How dare they even think of giving someone else the gold medal.

@strawberrykiwi20a
yes, absolutely agree with you. figure skating is one sport where the athlete's diplay of skill really isn't the deciding factor. the judges control the outcome...throw in a couple of unscrupulous judges and you have a biased reult.

You are so right. Had she skated later she would have won the gold!

@TheLaluna1
we all feel for her...but we do not pity. some would argue that the olympic gold is the pinnacle of sports... but her achievements are far more greater than just winning an olympic gold medal, and not winning the gold does not lessen her illustrious career. her ability to handle the scrutiny of coming in second and constantly displaying her public persona with every ounce of her humbleness is what truly defines her character as the greatest ladies figure skater of our time.
delonedotorg 1 year ago 6
@delonedotorg no. she was beat fair and square. tara did a 3 loop/3 loop combination and a 3 sal/3 toe jump sequence.
koolaidnhemlock 9 months ago
@delonedotorg yeah, but she would have retired much earlier I feel and we would have missed some marvelous and iconic performances! I think in the end all is well....she is still THE MOST FAMOUS OF ALL TIME! Love her!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
@delonedotorg OMG she was HAPPY with skating first.

Good luck to you.

yuna may have won the gold, and deserving she was..... but she is who she and is driven by the passion and love for her sport because of michelle kwan's legacy.
delonedotorg 1 year ago 19
Michelle Kwan may not have won the OGM, but her skating changed the sport by raising the level of quality in jumps AND presentation! Not only that, her programs (from many different competitions - nationals, grand prix, worlds, etc.) are *memorable* - how many past OGM can say that!
guamboy75 1 year ago 3
Michelle Kwan changed Ice Skating into a beautiful artistic sport. The obsession over the jumps may be what the judges wanted but for me Michelle knew how to make the audience feel the emotion of the program. Michelle is by far the most decorated and well known female figure skater.
jevonk 1 year ago 2
The troll who stalks Michelle's videos doesn't know anything about skating. She/it doesn't know a lutz from Utz potato chip. Enough thumbs down and the posts will disappear.
idolfan9495 1 year ago

TheSkatingGirlDream 1 year ago
@getrealandsee And everyone knows that Sarah Hughes's win was a big fluke. I know that if the Olympics were every year that Michelle would have one. She has 5 World titles. She was so close. That's why I question the importance of the Olympics. Will Tara and Sarah be placed above Kwan in the history books? Hell no (unless you're ignorant to FS). I'll take Irina, Lu Chen, Janet Lynn, and even Sasha over those two. I guess that they're all losers as well...
Karosanyo 1 year ago

Thanks.
Karosanyo 1 year ago
@Karosanyo Who has skated their very best at the Olympics? I think that Yuna hit her all time peak at the Olympics (and not even doing a triple loop). I think that was her only clean skate at a major. Good for her. No, I don't think Michelle's performance was as great as her National performance, but it WAS better than all of the previous OGM winners. She landed seven triples. I think that Michelle's National skate was better than Tara's Olympic skate.
Karosanyo 1 year ago
@getrealandsee Your prejudiced. You do not know Michelle Kwan on any personal level. With full respect, Skating is nothing personal, but teqnical and artistic. Though your opinions on her skill isnt positive, its still an opinion. You have no right to belitte her personally. how would you ever know if she is honest, truthful, or has integrity/ or do you stalk her?
TheSkatingGirlDream 1 year ago

TheSkatingGirlDream 1 year ago
@getrealandsee Yes, I feel like Michelle was a great skater (the most influential of her generation). YOU may disagree and that's fine. But don't come on here acting like your theories are valid. You're calling her a "loser" again? Projection....
Karosanyo 1 year ago
@getrealandsee YOU have a truly twisted obsession with Michelle Kwan. It's really amusing how much she gets to you. And we're not "slaming" other skaters to defend Michelle. We're just stating what we dislike about their SKATING. This sport is highly subjective. We're not just throwing around vindictive statements to attack them PERSONALLY. YOU have a vendetta against Michelle. A complete stranger to you. Your views have been solipsistic and slanderous.
Karosanyo 1 year ago
@getrealandsee Yes, she earned every one of them. Once again, you're talking out of your ass. Then again, this doesn't surprise me...

@tavias48 No. Tara is still skating. We all still love Tara. Who is Hughes?

@getrealandsee And a "loser"? Projection, dare I say? She has won 5 World titles! Three out of five with a seven triples (two with the triple/triple). She deserved every one of them. Tara's style was very forced and robotic. She was more of a roller skater than an ice skater. I also disliked Sarah Hughes's skating (her posture and cheated jumps were awful). I don't care if they have the OGM. I know a lot of great actors that haven't won Oscars. I also know a lot of mediocre actors that have...
Karosanyo 1 year ago 9
@Karosanyo Agreed. There have been more fluke, come and go athletes that have won big titles. Look at tennis: Francesca Schiavone won a Grand Slam this year, and we may not hear of her since then. Anastasia Myskina won the French, Iva Majoli,
SMSProductions1 1 year ago
@getrealandsee She just lacked the speed and passion of her National performance (her jumps weren't as perfect as well). I'll take her performance over Oksana Baiul's LP (where she only landed two clean triples) and Katrina Witt's performances (two and four triples in her '84 and '88 wins). Now those skaters were overrated! Michelle landed SEVEN TRIPLES (she wasn't all smiles and tears like those two). What "mess" are you talking about? You're talking out of your ass.
Karosanyo 1 year ago
@getrealandsee Her spirals are atrocious. I find it so funny that you hate Yuna's favorite skater. She even "borrowed" some of Michelle's choreography (from her Rach short program ) for her Olympic LP (where she caressess her chest and arms). I find Michelle's '98 National performance to be better than Yuna's Olympic LP. There was so much passion and emotion in that performance. I also find it better than Tara's Olympic LP. Michelle skated really well at the '98 Olympics.
Karosanyo 1 year ago
@getrealandsee I see that you're back to moderate on Michelle's videos... Just the same repetitious nonsense. All of your views are ridiculously asinine and fallacious. Why would you watch a skater that you hate over and over? You just preach the Gospel according to Getrealandsee. Lol, a "butterfly"? I don't think so! I find Yuna's skating to be pretentious and her artistry forced. She's really cold. She's like a blank slate (you can see the wheels turning). She's far from elegant.

@getrealandsee You're crazy.

I'd love to see this program graded with today's system, just to see how it stacks up with what the skaters are doing today.
