I just blew up my unit today :( it was outside and obviously my flashback arrestor didnt work either. The top of the unit was held by silicone and both battery terminals melted the pvc. I was just setting up my maf adjustor when this happened, nowhere near the extent of your damage, it sounded like a large bomb however.
check valves have their uses, but the velocity at which hho will ignite and expand, doesn't leave much of a chance for the little check valve. A pop off of some type would be ideal, but anyone who has seen this stuff explode, knows that a little 5 dollar check valve couldn't possibly handle the pressure. I had maybe 10 cubic inches of HHO in there, and it sent shrapnel 30 feet, instantly. No room for check valves there.
why wouldn't a simple 'aquarium like' Check Valve work out the top, not large enough to expunge any "extra" gases if needed? just curious what you think of using something like that.. also,
personally, I have to agree 100% that a "cork type POPer" would be best, in design and for QUICK release. I made mine, but am looking at all the angles for design improvements even before starting her up. :) THANKS for sharing your experience, BE SAFE..
At least you had the bubbler, I think the cell blowing up would have gotten you hurt, and it would have pissed me off to have to make a new cell setup.
Here's a thought. Since the hydrogen and oxygen are produced separately, a different electrode arrangement would allow collection separately with the uncombined gases transmitted through separate tubes, then recombined at the point of introduction into the engine. Without oxygen, hydrogen is not explosive.
If you come up with something I'd be glad to take a look at it. It is possible, however the distance between the plates is pretty important and has a large effect on the gas production itself. So such an arrangement is difficult to do in the basement or garage, not to mention the fact that you couldn't use neutral plates (which produce both hydrogen & oxygen)
i blew my first cell up. bits landed 25 feet away.. i was standing 2 foot away. and managed not to get hit by anything. but scared the crap out of me. i now use milk cartons for bubbler's. they dont shatter .
that's fine unless you want to harness the HHO to create a torch. I suggest using rubbermaid containers, they don't shatter either, only the top pops off. Be careful.
A designed in "weak point" is an essential safety component. Flash arrestors are great, a bubbler will most often work well. But I will always argue that you need some sort of cork that will POP should the worst case happen.
I get chewed out and called a panic Pete when I break bad on guys who use GLASS for their containers and/or bubblers. Can you imagine what it would have been like to glass shards flying at you?
You were fortunate. Clean up the mess and get back to work.
You are so right. The mess is now cleaned up, and we're using a rubbermade "tupper ware" type container, that will just pop off when the pressure gets too high. Thanks for the comment.
I great video on showing how to create a pillbox bomb. Just joking, anyway a great video shows that HHO projs. should be practice extra careful.

Enjoy. I'm lucky I never lost my eye when my cell blew. Bubblers all the way now.

you tested this thing inside your home???? WTF

just to clarify, by means of placing a "valve check" ON the bubbler itself, not just inline. .
any words?
thanks
