I prefer Drew Sarich's version. It's much more mature in terms of interpretation, used emotions - in right scale and time, overall "feeling". It always gives me goosebumps.
But hey, Drew Sarich is King of Musicals ^^
You can check it by yourself on yt : watch?v=sNZ9nCoYlVI
@CzesiaPL awesome! i will def check him out. we're all flailing over the junsu version because he's such a newbie, but still made all his loyal fans sooo proud :D
@oneyoosu As a fan I can understand this feeling but his not a newbie - he has been singer for almost 6 years now + years in SM as a trainee. I expected better interpretation since lyric (German) tells a story I thought he could relate to with his own experience but perhaps Junsu doesn't feel tired of his "shadow" yet. I wish him the best.
@CzesiaPL check this out. "Of the many countries that has participated in the run of 'Mozart!', composer Sylvester Levay has pointed the Korean run of 'Mozart!' as the best. Despite the short time that Kim Junsu had for practice, when Levay experienced his interpretation and his singing, he couldn't conceal his surprise as this was the closest portrayal of Mozart that he had wanted to represent." from a news.
@CzesiaPL Sorry, I don't want to bother you, but he/she is right.
Levay pointed Korean run of 'Mozart!' as the best among the rendition nations. and after experienced Junsu's singing, he whote new song for him.
And at the upcomming Junsu's concert, Uwe Kroger is gonna visit korea and perform together. He also said korean actors' performance was great and that made him decided to join in.
I failed linking source for occuring error. tell me if you want. I'll send you msg.
Though he's been singing for so long time, that was as a singer. never belonged musical industry.
Junsu had to change vocalization method, care the condition of throat(he surely suffered with this), practice acting while singing, memorize bunch of songs.
And this all happened less than a month. I even can't imagine it.
I was audience. his singing was sometimes scratched, but he really did well. I really loved.I think he deserve be paid a compliment. :)
@pinkwind87 I've never said he didn't perform good but I think Drew Sarich perform better. Please sand me link to the article cause I couldn't find it even though I've put whole quote to searching engine.
@CzesiaPL If the quoted one is mean 'best run of the 'Mozart!' among the rendition nations', google "levay mozart best", and read third one.
That's not I read before, but I couldn't find it. :P
If you "really" want to make sure of it, I recommend you to use korean webpage "naver[dot]com", and enter "김준수 모차르트 르베이 한국 인터뷰" something like that. and use translation tool. then you'll can get it.
levay interviewed few times in the korea, and I think he mentioned it there.
@CzesiaPL Junsu is not a theatrical singer. Xiah Junsu is a Pop & R&B singer. Also this is the FIRST musical that he has ever participated in and he still had great reviews from not only the audience, his costars, & critics but Sylvester Levay loved him too. I thought this interpretation was good esp for a newbie in the Broadway Industry. I dont know what you are hearing but Junsu (Mozart) sounds very "tired" to me, distressed even!! The emotions are on point! No need to compare Junsu to Sarich
@CzesiaPL awesome! i will def check him out. we're all flailing over the junsu version because he's such a newbie, but still made all his loyal fans sooo proud :D
I bought it in Korea after watching the musical for the very first time. I actually saw Park Gun Hyung's performance first even though I bought the tickets for Junsu's performance first. I enjoyed the musical so much that I bought the CD the very same day. ^__^ It really was an amazing show, and all the actors, main or supporting, put up quite a show. I watched the Seoul show 4 times within 8 days, and then another one in Busan... Haha.
something about the original owners of the play not wanting any performance to be released on DVD unless it's performed on a good enough stage or something like that ;A;
i want to see this show T_T

@xiahdec2 I've only found :
"He has an excellent ability and meets the expectation of Mozart character"
Sylvester Levay and that composer request for him personally.
Nothing about being the best. What's your source?

There's a CD for the musical; I have it.
Unfortunately, Junsu doesn't sing in it. :(
But the CD is great nonetheless!
The other actors, Park Gun Hyung, Park Eun Tae, and Im Tae Kyung did a SUPERB job though ^ ^
