No, Muay Boran is a "form" or "style" of Muay Thai that uses a varirty of techniques, many of which are unconventional and would not be used in Muay Thai as a ring sport.

Muay Boran techniques along with traditional Muay Thai are taught in Thai Military training combined.

muay boran is a new word of the old styles like muay chaya, korat or hanuman, all these styles are actually muay boran. and that was a nice demo from it.

Well..... By thai's law, it's perfectly legal. They do muai thai demonstration and training, not really fight.

Just for those who not know it.

Rama 5 King forbid using Muai thai boran in the ring fight because of the death rate as manys said.

They removed all deadly technique ex. crushing bones and breaking enemy's arm or leg technique. ( which makes sense. They want their best soldier alive. lol ) and then, it became today muai thai ( ringsport )

anyhow...boran just means "ancient" ...it was not the name used in ancient times to call the art muay boran...there were 4 different styles of this art that existed will all 4 different names....like on was Muay Katcheuurk (sp?).

Muay Boran is much more brutal than Muay Thai. It involves all takedowns, breaking bones, submissions, and whatever that can cause death to the opponent :P

yeah cos muay boran was made illegal in thailand since the 20s cos of death rates. Muay boran is a deadly art so the best they can do is choreograph it.
