Is this one of those sets that looks kinda like a triangle if you are looking down on it from above? The TV set that would fit into a corner perfectly? I've seen these in a couple movies recently.
Zenith was number 1. When you bought one they would go at least 10 + years with no repairs. And like you said the color was more life like. I remember EJ Korvette's when I used to live in Rockland Counthy NY in the 1960' and 70s.
Zenith in its heyday [mid- late 60's 70's maybe even early 80s] was the Cadillac of color TVs. I remember walking into EJ Korvette's.. remember that store chain? with their great music department] going into tv sales room and seeing all the large consoles from Zenith RCA Admiral etc.. Zenith had the truest colors most advanced features etc .Yes they were often $200 more than the rest ,and yes, expensive at the time But their sets and quality of engineering were worth it Anybody Agree?
@lpvcrcd I think everyone would pretty much agree that Zenith made a good television. Have you ever heard of Curtis Mathis sets, and if so, what do you think of those? They were also top of the line TVs, which cost more than others.
@lpvcrcd Oops. I spelled Curtis Mathes wrong in my previous reply. Anyway, there are some interesting old commercials of theirs on YouTube. Apparently their TVs had a small part that would enable one to see the same color picture that could be seen in the control rooms of the TV stations.
Yeah, by the late '80s/early '90s their picture tubes were shit. Never seen a set from the '90s that didn't have a dim, blurry picture when it got old.
@simplicityford Our 80's System 3's power supply gave up just the other day... We can't find a replacement part for it either, im certainly going to miss it.
i have one of those in my living room lol works..well ish except i'm having trouble getting my xbox to work in it...is that even possible? it has all the jacks but no video channel?
buy an RF Modulator; the impedance is way different as well as the frequency; the old twin lead or coax on the TV is actually better than the crap RCA!
What kind of VCR is that, I can see it's old, and is that a Magnavox DVD Player? Does that TV have Standard Input Output (1 RCA in, Audio out, coax in)
That's a Zenith VCR from '84 or '85. The DVD player on top is a Philco (but it is made by the same company that makes Magnavox's players). This TV has coax in (it's a cable ready TV) and twin lead in as well. I was able to hook my DVD payer and laptop up to the A/V input jacks on the VCR, which is hooked to the TV via coax.
I thought all the advaced system 3s had the av thing bc all my sys 3s have audio in and out and all my ad sys 3s have audio and video in and audio out.
They didn't start putting A/V on the Sys. 3s until the late '80s. I had an Advanced Sys 3 from '89 that had stereo A/V jacks, but back in '85 when this TV was made they didn't have that.
I have another System 3 that uses a tuning fork remote, and both Zeniths next to this one use tuning fork. So some older System 3's did not use infrared.
Do you want mine? I have one of these and my grandparents seem 'frightened' of relieving this old house of some of it's antiques. I have decided on getting a 19' LCD monitor with a TV Tuner in the coming future.
i have a 1967 b&w 23'console-1st tv with uhf-i fondly remember watching 'mr.rogers neighborhood'on it-and a 1971 Avanti-the one on the pedestal-and a 1989 system III that sits on a pedestal like the avanti and looks a bit like the '67-the good old days when 'the quality went in before the name went on'
American TV makers have always the best design especially for futurist models! Zenith and RCA consoles are the most beatiful consoles! I own an 1976 RCA color TV with thick wood futurist black and white cabinet with black "leather" on the top and it still working!

BTW i see lots of people dont like the system 3 TVs. I guess thats when Zenith started turning into the old zenith and into the new zenith.

@LynolsOffice true, our old zenith tv from 1991 died in 2001, but the old system 3 from 1984 still lives on.

what made it so "advanced" over a regular system 3 then?
1DanielChristensen 2 years ago
I have no idea. Infrared remote and on screen display maybe?
LynolsOffice 2 years ago
system 3's use infrared remotes; what TV's from the last 35 years use anything but infrared remotes???
1DanielChristensen 2 years ago
I have another System 3 that uses a tuning fork remote, and both Zeniths next to this one use tuning fork. So some older System 3's did not use infrared.

How many panarama sets are required to make a complete circle? Sounds like I have a new long-term goal.

You'll need six sets. I have five, so I'm almost there!
