also, because Adam Baldwin was mentioned in this, the urge for me to express how much of a cool actor i think he is has cropped up again, and how I don't think Jayne does him justice and that if there's ever a Firefly/Serenity sequel, I want Jayne to be redeemed and finally become a good guy... sort of thing...
As someone who works in disability and who has met Summer, I can say she definitely does not have autism or any other disability. She is clearly just nervous and shy, as @aashacat said. She also says that she was/is shy, and has probably not fully overcome that. Not to mention the fact that her mircophone isn't working properly so she is having difficulty hearing the audience. She is absolutely amazing, intelligent and very nice to talk to.
