Of course oppressive force must be met with liberating force, how else could liberation possibly be acheived? Claiming peaceful protest, and sitting down infront of a line of cops who then beat the crap out of you, and pepper spray you, DOES make them look bad, but there is no action thereby taken against them. People just start disliking cops as opposed to resisting their repressive/oppressive means!

Anarchism has to be the free and conscious creation of the majority of people in society, which means that a lot of people are going to have to be convinced that it's a good, workable idea. That work is almost impossible if the anarchists can't show their faces in public, if at every demonstration the anarchists are hidden in the crowd. the Red Scare died down, but didn't go away completely.

Whether it's a general strike, a bloody revolution(not likely or wanted), or just the swift but indepth empowerment of the people while the state is still around -- by our own means and organising -- and then casting off the states shackles as an obselete shell made redundant.

The latter is what i think, but everyone has a different idea which is awesome :)

But the fact of the matter is that GW Bush is closer to the founding fathers in ideology than these anarchist moonbats will ever be! The USA has a libertarian viewpoint entrenched in the original constitution and early amendments.

Anarchists using the black bloc tactic wear masks for many reasons. The main one is the fact that the police videotape activists for their "Red" files. The police do this surveillance to frighten moderate activists from participation in protests and social struggle. Masks promote anonymity and egalitarianism. They also protect the identities of those who want to engage in illegal acts and escape to fight another day.
