well its not like people dont want to edit like in the old days.. I guess beta's took over and easy editing started playing around xD I guess people from 2006-2008 put more efford in their vids.. even though thats not always the truth, but nowadays amvs are very basic or too effect whored =P
with basic I mean Flashes radials shakes.. and maybe a gradient.
Making an AMV look good with effects is hard atleast if you're trying to not ruin the graphic of the actual footage

AMVs worth real kudos is one with effects looking good and used right that does not ruin the graphic and still keeps the video looking somewhat raw looking but with boosted(concepts)synchronization(not oversynced/not undersynced)/impact/emotion & flow and so on
@AMVSoup 06-08 may not be classic but if you look at the good editors than they make most of the people we consider good now look like trash and they did it with less effects.
If you look at videos from 02-03 you'd see how better they are than ones from 06-08, it's fact that everything gets worse in time, it'll probably get "better"in a few years..just to get bad again haha.

@MrKoolAMVS raw editing changes the way you look at ur vid....instead of looking for a flash for a transition you look for scene selection and ur flow will get alot better u can put and show more emotion than u could if u covered it with effects
because raw/semi-raw editing is harder. its easier just to whore up a vid with effects and cover up mistakes as opposed to having to completely re-do a part if theres a big mistake. dont get me wrong, some people know how to use effects very well, so well that it inspires newer editors to do the same and it initially becomes somewhat of a "fad" until some people just stick with these effects and then others will too.
I suspose because people are inherently copycats. People see someone use a cool effect, and then they want to mimic tht. And imo atleast, raw requires alot more thought over things like scene selection, whereas spamming effects is easier. And this is coming from an effects editor, but dunno. Im just glad not everyone edits the same, tht theres still a mix of styles...most of the time xD
it's because editing is evolutionary. It's survival of the fittest techniques. When we learn something new, we try it out. If it works, we keep using it. If it doesn't work, it's scrapped. Raw editing (my style) is getting outdated by the newer and more evolved styles (like Salvadorian21j's) so most raw editors have "died off". I'm just too stubborn/lazy/noobish to add more effects than I have right now
cuz most ppl whore flashes and blurs to hide the ugliness of their vids, lol jk, but seriously ppl now think it's harder to make a raw vid, which is why u see comments like "good for a raw vid," but personally i think it just depends on the song
Probably because most people can't do it well. Most of my newer shit is more like this. A few effects like Black and White, but usually not much more than that. When most people try to do raw, it's boring as shit.
@GingerAMVs Back in the movie maker days i jus dropped in a song and a clip and i was good lol. But i mean editing this way is pretty fun and less stressfull plus in like really music videos you prbly cant over sync or use a bunch of flashes. The more professional the better

i think effects are ok as long as they make the clip look more impactly and everything but in fact nowdays people go using those ugly random effects!

Also, 06-08 isn't "classic", since the oldest AMV i can recall of was made in the late 80's - early 90's :-).
