amerikanprincess--thanks for your post. I love Streets Of This Town, it's my fave Forbert album. I did not know it was a sober comeback. Forbert has always been highly under rated in my opinion.
STREETS OF THIS TOWN is one of my favorite albums of the 80s. The songs still go through my head, especially "Live and Breathe" and "Mexico." Taped it off the radio premiere on WNEW-FM and saw Steve at a club in NYC when he was touring to support it. Used to think this was called "Gone" - shows you how few titles I got while taping. Raise your hand if you know what STREETS OF THIS TOWN is about: it was his comeback when he got sober. That's why it's more spiritual than his earlier work.
I had heard Romeo's Tune but had no idea he was from Meridian, Mississippi about a 2 1/2 hour drive away from where I grew up until I listened to "Streets of This Town" and I thought, "why don't we talk about him being a famous Mississippian as much as Oprah, Walter Peyton, or Jim Henson?" Brilliant, simply brilliant.
I worked for Steve a few gigs many years ago as a local stage manager. Nicest guy in the world, very unassuming (and this was in the heyday of Romeo's Tune)-beautiful lyrics that speak to me
This is not my favorite song. I am sitting here with my Martin playing along with Steve over and over again. I want to be able to do this song with the ease that Steve does more than anything. Thanks to whoever posted it.
Does anyone have Steve doing house of cards? He is one of the best almost on par with Dan Fogleberg and better the Dylan, Jackson Browne and Springskunk
Best Forbert song, and great performance here. A truely great musician and songwriter. So glad my Dad found him a few decades ago and has had me hooked since birth!
Stevie is opne of musics best kept secrets and this is one of his best, any new ARP members out there give this a view, quite profound! Thanks for posting does anyone have him doing House of Cards?
could be my favourite song of steves.thanks for posting this. i have never saw this performed live before.had a good chat with steve at the weekend. a true gentleman.
Where did you get that fantastic early Steve Forbert vid! Don't he sound and look great. I can't wait to get my ticket for his London gig on the 17th Jan 08. Nice to see more of his vids on here. Thanks jeffjn and all the others for posting. Keep them coming guys.
Wow- you can tell he doesn't like to sit..one of the best songs he has captured on video...I am one of the lucky ones...I get to see Steve about 3 times a year..he only gets better
My wife and I saw him perform about 20 years ago at Froggy Bottoms in downtown Dallas. One of the best shows we have ever been to. Thanks for the memories.
Thanks to jeffjn.....great to be able to see classic Steve Forbert songs from the past. Didn't know it existed. Can you track down "Thinkin" from TOGWT in about 1978?
