  • wow man great playing thank you.

  • Great feel

  • The dude plays like the guy from Little Feat, very talented slide guy here.

  • HOLY CRAP! LOVE IT

  • this stuck my face in a permanent squint it was so dirty /;}

  • Great song, great playing. I'm just learning the slide. Do you just drop your low E to D in this song. Your Music blows me away. Nice job.

  • @gmick49 ... thanks, mate. Yes, just the bass string down a tone to D.

  • That's some good shit Kirk. It's almost like you know what you're doing with that slide.

  • Dam! Thats nice, makes me wont to stop playing(just kidding)I just have a lot more to learn

  • Been on YT for a long time, but every once in a while you run across something like this... wow... unbelievable soul, tone, mastery of the blues guitar.

  • some of the BEST slide guitar I've ever heard

  • really terrific playing man

now I"m gonna rip off all your licks - lol

  • the fun thing to watch isnt the left hand.... its the right haha

  • Very impressive! Marvelously played!

  • Hey I've got the same capo as you :D

I'm wondering why everyone puts it with its open end up on the gutar?

I hope you understand what I mean ;)

    Greets from Germany

  • tasty.

  • this is absolutley amazing !

  • So if you're in drop D and have the capo set at the 2nd fret, would i be correct in saying that you're actually playing in drop E ?

You also said that you don't use scales. How do you play without scales ?

    Thanks.And nice playing.

  • Great Tone! Your the Shit!!!!!!!

  • do you have any pedals your playin through? and what are your picks up set at?

  • 13 people dislike this LOL...what a wonderful world!

  • incredible.sounds like a place Bonamassa likes to wander

  • I remember when Kirk used to play slide for Richard Clapton - Deep Water, Capricorn Dancer, Lucky Country. Goodbye Tiger was a great album but the slide guitar was the best thing about it. I met Kirk a few years ago when my band supported Brian Cadd at a local RSL. He is a nice guy only too happy to talk about slide etc. He'd just started his Planetalk project.

  • Nice job !

  • MY FAVORITE SLIDE PLAYER--SIGNED--JOE T-ENGLISHBLUESMAN

  • Kirk -- I was already a fan of Plane Talk, but this seals the deal! Your approach to slide playing is as fresh as your approach to instruction.

Question: How do you set your action for slide playing? Cheers from Texas!

  • dude i am gonna order slide just right now , i did not expect you can do amazing staff with a slide .

    Excellent playing

ANY ADVISE FOR SLIDER IF YOU DON'T MIND PLEASE ?

  • sick tone man

  • Kirk is absolutely amazing, the best slide guitar blues i've ever heard anywhere !!

  • someone is a fan of jeff beck... lol. nice playing!

  • Very tasty

  • Dude - I'd love you to play a Telecaster...looking forward to that day...

  • man, I dig this sound!

one question: why the dropped D and capo?

  • @MegaDutchdude ... thanks, mate. I like having those three bass strings as two roots and a fifth. Lets me play a fat power chord ( 2:21 ) witht he slide when I want.

  • Excellent!!! I would also be curious regarding string gage? Thanks!

  • @zunder777 ... 016 - 018 - 024 -034 - 044 - 054

  • What size strings are you using?

  • a VERY, VERY, VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF HOW THE RIGHT HAND (or should I say) THE PLUCKING HAND IS TO CORRECTLY PLAY AND DAMPEN THE STRINGS ! Most people pay attention to the slide hand and are not really sure of what to do with the other hand. KUDOS FOR THE CAMERA ANGLE. By the way, your playing, and especially your phrasing, are exceptional. = )

  • @goodtarist .. thanks for that, goodtarist.

  • play that bluuuuuuuuuuuuues brother!!!! fuck yeah!!! keep rocking out dude its fucking awsome! much love from the uk!

  • I rarely if never write comments on videos, because I only write comments when something is truly good, and the person is truly talented, but today I will write a comment and say this guy is AMAZING.

  • how should a slide fit? i need one but have big fingers, please help

  • @Face0fRoadkill1213 ... the ones I use (and sell) are pretty loose on my finger but most people like them tight. Whatever you get used to, basically. You can always pad the loose ones ... mine are 3/4 inch inside diameter.

  • @planetalk thank you, you play beautifully btw.

  • @Face0fRoadkill1213 what is the tuning here?

  • Your music is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! You have music in your hands. How the hell you get that tone? its incredible my friend. Sorry for my english

  • @zproduct ... your English is fine ... thanks a lot!

  • great!!

  • awesome dude!

  • Such a talented guy. Thanks from a humble fan. You make it look so easy.

  • Such a talented guy. Thanks from a humble fan.

  • The slide sounds really annoying if you're not good at using it, but you sir, are amazing at it. :)

  • what size strings you using?

  • Love the tone...what pickups are on that strat. How about the amp? Thanks!

  • fukn awesome

  • Wow!!! Great slide!!

  • Nice!

Blues, but with a distinct sound and style

  • nice videos dude they help me a lot , i just bought my slide yesterday thanks a lot!!

  • What strings would you say are best for slide? Glass or Steel? I like this by the way and thank you

  • @WorthyAlanGarza ... never heard of glass strings. If you mean the slide itself, I like brass like the one in this movie.

  • @planetalk i think he might mean nylon..?

  • @planetalk there is strings that . instead of being round thy are a tirangula shape. this may be what thy mean by glass strings leppardnigel@yahoo.com

  • wow..I've been playing blues harmonica for over 35 years and i just bought a guitar and am learning slide...i am totally humbled at your mastery of slide,,kinda wished i took up the guitar when i started playing harp. You sir..are an inspiration hope i can play one 3rd as good as you.

  • @unklbuk1

  • wow that was awesome ,nice sound

  • oh my god... its so impressive how you mute the strings man...

    amazing playin

  • you are the dogs never herd eneything this good till to day

  • u make that guitar sing man.nough said....

  • I feel somewhat better...time to hear it for the 20th time in a row.

  • wow..... enough said!

  • sounds very jeff beck. killer stuff dude.

  • this is amazing man !! your great !! im your fan and im gonna learn to use the slide .. put hear some lessons ;)

  • OH MY GOD ! AMAZING THE BEST JAM WITH SLIDE GUITAR, SOUL SOUL SOUL ! THATS IT YOUR REALLY GOOD MAN ;) Keep playing !

  • awsome dude my question is do you mute the strings that ur not pickin to get ride of the slide

  • @guitarmadness458 ... That's the idea, yes.

  • We don't need no stickin pick....

Beautiful.. My ears have been bless today... :-) LM

  • GOOD LAWDY!!!!!!

  • ur fun to play along with. Thanks for posting :)

  • Fanfu##intastic!!! Jesus that was good!

  • Tone !

  • your little finger is a fuking monster, I wish mine was that long. It seems like it is just as fat and tall as your index finger.

  • Go on americas got talent they need an act like this one.

  • Man thats Dirty!!!

  • Thats well cool man!

  • You plays very very god !

  • Thank you. Very, very fine playing.

  • What mods did you have to do to your guitar if any , so you can use the heavy strings..?

    BTW, this piece absoluetly ROCKS..

  • Great video. Keep posting. :)

  • When you said heavy I almost freaked, but you do have a medium kind of top. Man, how you manage to tune a 16 to an E is beyond me. I'm too much of a baby to tune a 13 to E.

  • You got the feeling man! Great!

  • youre no John 5. but youre ok

  • Now here's a man who knows what the blues is all about, and where to extract it from.

  • Well good, man. @ 1:12 I expected Robert Plant to walk in and sing.... "you know you shook me, baby"!

  • Nice bit 'o playin' man, you play with feeling, very tricky to achieve, but you got it!

  • Great stuff here

  • Killer.. sucked me in from the first couple of bars... very entertaining..

  • WOW DUDE. o.O You're not allowed to play that good! xD

I'm startin to play slide guitar, any tips? :)

    Cheers mate :)

  • @northernsurvivor ... yes, play slide for about 40 years like I have. You can help but get pretty good at it.

  • @planetalk Thanks man :)

    Cheers :D

  • @planetalk unlucky 40 years and your this good. capped at 10 years and stayed the same for 30, sound right?

  • @northernsurvivor Yeah dont use the slide on the pinky finger like planetalk use it on the ring finger

  • @samanoskee Cheers dude :) Any reason? For the chords or just coz it's a better technique? :)

  • @northernsurvivor Because if u use it the in ring finger you can fret notes after the slide and before , using it in the Pinky finger only let u fret notes before the slide get it ?? =)

  • @samanoskee I get it x) Thanks man :D :)

  • Freak'n Sweet!

  • damn...

  • do you mean open D? otherwise there'd be no need for a capo

  • @strwy2hvn94 ... dropped D -- DADGBE

  • @strwy2hvn94 drop d like he has here lets you have a chord on the top 3 strings at any position.

  • What gauge strings are you using?

  • @DanielSeriffGuitar ... Heavy! 016 - 018 - 024 - 034 - 044 - 054

  • @planetalk damnnn lol

  • @planetalk that must be some fun... i only have 53's on mine...

  • Heavy gauges do make strats come alive a bit more. I played a lighter gauge for 12 years and the strat felt like a toy. Once the .012's went on, it felt like it finally had the strength it needed.

  • most excellent slide work! very accurate too.

  • My wife's mad at both of us now. Since I discovered your videos, I spend a lot more time on my slide technique. Drives her crazy cuz I like to practice about twice as loud as she wants me to. Rock on! Hope your posts inspire a new generation!

  • god your a sick guitarist its so cool to play like that

  • Sounds so good! I could listen all day.. Thanks for the post!

  • its even more fun watching your right hand

  • perty, i'm watching this on repeat

  • man your nasty!

  • @100percentguitarded ... why thank you! That's the nicest thing anyone's told me all day.

  • kinda bonamassay. :)

  • I'm thirteen and I love this music I've been playin for three years and I want to play this music cause it's awesome:/-

  • wow, impressive, most enjoyable and very good style, enjoyed very much.

  • @plonker00765 your a heck of a guitar player man !!!!!!

  • great job!

  • that was fing awesome

  • that was tasty, u show a real feel for what ur playing

  • ぶっとんだ・・・

  • cool

  • Very tasty... Not to compare you to anyone because you def shine on your own, but when I close my eyes, I kind of get an old Jimmy Page vibe in my head. I really love the last minute or so when you really get cranked up.

  • I'd give anything to be able to play like that. Thanks for sharing.

  • I like the way you play solo =)

  • VERY NICE!

  • Świetnie

  • Man, I have been listenin to blues as long as I can remember, and your technique is VERY different from most players, a more subdued kind of style, fluid and fast without appearing all that fast, similar to Lowell George from Little Feat. I could tell right off that you weren't a scale walking hack like you see a lot of in blues. Well Played Sir!!! ~Rob

  • very cool! ive been playing for a year and a half now, and ive been really intrigued by slide guitar. is it easy enough to fiddle around with or do i probabley need lessons to figure it out? because i really want to buy a slide to mess around with. any help would be great, thanks

  • Wonderful! I hate using a pick, prefer my fingers, I like playing in standard tuning or dropped D but I thought slide had to be in open tunings, and I don't like scales, I think more in chord shapes.

Now I see you do all these things and sound just fabulous. It's a breath of fresh air. Thank you Kirk.

  • This is at the top of my list of the best and most interesting slide I have ever heard and with the most soulful tone of all time. I love Derek Trucks and I date all the way back to Duane Allman along with my '61 Strat and I would kill to be able to do what you just did hear. Nice work, Brother! By the way: I stripped the paint off of my Strat back in the 60's and it looks just like yours. You, me and Bonnie Raitt.

  • Hey Kirk! I have your Plane Talk instruction book (comic style) explaining the three basic shapes of all chords - helped me out tremendously! Ordered it about a year ago. Good to see you on Youtube! It's great to hear you after going through the book.

  • Thats awesome!!!

  • @zau6ucb ... Thanks! Nice of you to say so.

  • Sweet bro. Like it.

  • Well, I dunno what to say. Just beautiful....link me to that backing track pimp. A+++

  • much love and respect brother!

  • absolutely gorgeous tone and playing

  • wat model and finish guitar is that?

  • Hi Kirk

Sounds bitchin! Did you adjust the saddles to flatten out the string radius?

    D

  • @dillwankster ... thanks, man.

I can't remember if I touched the bridge. That guitar has been the same for the past twenty years at least. I don't think I did though. I don't think I'd like it if all the strings were flat.

  • very nice

  • This is just amazing , when i close my eyes its like buchanan is playing ! Great playing man love it !

  • Slide guitar can sound extremely great! This is such a perfect piece to demonstrate that.

  • What's the name of that color for your stratocaster? Or did you just refinish it? I'm trying to find one that color, like that Stevie Ray Vaughan dark brown wood. Great playing by the way.

  • @Crutches500 ... Thanks. It's just the natural wood color. I stripped the awful 'dog dick pink' color off when I bought it second hand in 1973.

  • @planetalk How exactly did u strip it off? I'm really sick of my black, and I might do the same just to put on a different finish.

  • @hiphopsucks96 ... it was 37 year ago that I did it, but I remember using paint stripper -- lots of it -- and a lot of elbow grease scraping away at it. There were quite a few layers of paint and primer. When I finally got down to the wood, sandpaper. I sanded away that angle where the body bends around, made it all sleek and streamlined. Had a lot of fun doing it, but probably reduced its value by a factor of 1000!

  • wow great playing (: love blues

  • dang dude, you make that freaking guitar TALK! and SING! and CRY! freaking B.A.

  • nice technique but too busy for me.

  • I can listen to you all day....:D

  • Very cool !

  • now this is what I'm talkin about...

  • awesome.

  • so can i get one of these sliders at shomacher?

  • @SquaidsIHave ... no, just from me. The link is in the info panel above.

  • Thats rediculously amazing.

  • Slow blues? guess I have to learn snail blues!

  • brilliant technique mate, i'm really impressed

  • sick!!.. you sir have total control of the frets of your guitar!

  • You have a very intense feeling, you have developed a great technique.

    Amazing!

  • that capo is pretty cock

    mad skills man

  • AWESOME

  • That's a very creative mind at work. I'm going to check out the DVD.

  • Wow you are a really skilled guitar player. I hope to be as good as you someday

  • Please tell me you did not use your RP on this recording?????? If so it blows a whole lot of holes in the "must have analoque theory.....and I'm taking my ears back to training school...lol

    Great tone man.....

  • insane, your brilliant

  • Killer.

  • how do you improvise?

  • @davidtheguitarman ... I follow the chord changes, David. I 'glue' my lines to chord tones. You can never go wrong that way.

  • @planetalk ok but, what's the critereon you follow when you improvise?

  • @davidtheguitarman ... melody.
