  • Great song, but they could have used a couple more guitarists.

  • This was my first concert. I saw them live in '81 with 38 Special..... what an incredible show !!!

  • I first heard Mickey Thomas when he was singing lead for the Elvin Bishop Band (Fooled around and fell in love) He had a dynamic voice and range. Then when he joined Jefferson Starship he got more recognition. But I still feel that Mickey and Craig were very underated. Mickey is 61 and still singing and still has the same range.Unbelievable !

  • Leave a message with the rain

You can find me where the wind blows

    The snow across the pain

And the frost upon the heart..........

  • One of my all time favorites!!!!

  • mickey & craig& the boys thats all i gotta say,

  • sweet bich!!!!!

  • 5 people hit dislike by mistake, obviously : ) This kicks as# !!!!

  • Grace was 'finding' her way back to the band during this time, she isn't actually singing on this track and only did on a few songs from that album.

  • @Heartboy1031 If you notice, she's not in the photograph of the band.

  • @tryithere She is when they put the picture back together at the end of the video. Thats what the premise of the video is.

  • @tommythewop1969 No she's not, she's on a seperate super imposed picture.

  • @tryithere Yes, she is, she is the last part od the photo, looks like a dude with an afro.

  • @tommythewop1969 That's because it is a dude with an afro. That's David Freiberg, the mostly bass player.

  • I love grace. She may have had her moments of being a bitch and ahole but she's just awesome!

  • @WetRoot Yep...it's her, the gal on stage singing is Grace.

  • @WetRoot Yes it is.....I didn't see her at first, but Thomas is the main vocalist.

  • @WetRoot No the vocalist is MICKEY THOMAS.

  • I cant express what this song means to me....just pure awesome.......cant go back, but can dream I could. Had crush on grace slick for years.

  • if u have the speakers to really rock this, then at 2:20, just lean on that volume control, and let it go, it just blazes up the universe!!!

  • They're playing it at my gym!

  • "70"s !!!! For Ever..

  • i wish just for once and band didnt have to age. they are all in their 70s now if im not mistaking.

  • @frankevega Most in their 60's don't push it!

  • Loved Grace Slick, loved Marty Balin. But I loved this lineup & Mickey Thomas the most. This guy had pipes! And ClassicTVful is right, Mickey does not get nearly enough credit!!

  • What great-sounding guitar chords!

  • Arena rock at its finest! Love the harmony lead guitars!

  • "Jane" was my favorite by J.S. and then this came out. Sorry "Jane"!

  • Just tryn get back to her heart'

  • awesome group. Compare this to what we have on the radio now....

  • I haven't seen this video in 25 years, and just now noticed how cool Grace Slick's hair was.

  • I love that Carvin double neck that Craig is playing.

  • amazing singer this guy is

  • Hey, Mr. Cameraman, Grace slick is over there looking good in a tight black outfit. Maybe you get the camera on her for more than one minute wort of the song.

  • Great song.

  • Great song! Reminds me of getting in to this back in the mid 90's. Jefferson Star ship. Great album.

  • Mickey..you have the most beautiful voice!!! I voted for you!!!

  • Aynsley Dunbar is so hot!!! And I think Grace should have had more vocals on this song.

  • its terrible the way that punk mickey treated grace. she got mo rock star n her lil finger then he got in his hole system

  • Ansley Dunbar's drum sound on this album(Modern Times) is one of the best ever. It is no mistake that the two best Mickey Thomas JS albums are this and Freedom At Point Zero - both with Ansley.

They went downhill starting with Nuclear Furniture and the mid-late 80's crap Knee Deep in The Crapla and No Protection(from the horrible songs and production). Amazing how far they fell considering MT and FAPZ are such classic albums.

  • What a voice!! Back when we acutally had great vocalists. Unlike today!!!

  • Is the drummer Ansley Dunbar?

  • lmao 5 dislikes = 5 douchebags

  • Freedom at Point Zero is a classic album.

  • @Marc2b4 You are so right ... my favorite album!

  • Ahhh yes, the summer of '81. What a great time to be a teenager. The little solo at 1:20 makes this song for me. Wish music like this was still being made.

  • @livininomaha Sadly it's all that pop crap and very computerized now...you don't see as many real raw musicians like back in the day! That is why their music is still good to this day because it has something today's music doesn't!!!! I'm with ya on that one!!!

  • A real rock anthem!

  • I love this song! Takes me back to when I was a teenager.

  • this song rocks !!!! awesome !!!

  • I can't believe someone mentioned "We Built This City" in here. Blasphemy!

  • @ToddSweeneyOnce I hated that song. I believe Elton John wrote that song. I normally like Elton, but that song...

  • @billmimms Bill, I just checked and here's what I found about the writers: "We Built This City" is the title of a song written by Bernie Taupin, Martin Page, Dennis Lambert, and Peter Wolf." You were very close. I can't believe Bernie had a hand in writing that garbage!

  • Micky is awesome!

  • literally, probably the top 5 songs J.A. ever released. at one point there are 3 guitars blazing away all at the same time. bad ass!

  • ALL! EXPERTS!

  • This band ROCKS! I hate that spandex aqua net shit though! too bad Craig Chaquiso wore that shit in the "Laying it on the line" video. Thats fucking GAY!

  • Awesome song. It's sad that Mickey doesn'e get more recognition. His vocal range is out of this world!

  • @ClassicTVful His singing style was very similar to brad delp but brad was better RIP. Maybe he should tour with boston?

  • @ClassicTVful , yes indeed it did. Such a dynamic singer for sure...

  • Aynsley Dunbar Rules! The best drummer that this band ever had (no disrespect to Spencer Dryden or John Barbata or Prairie Prince). He only played on two albums for JS but the quality of the group's music went steadily downhill after he left in 1982.

  • @TAMPABAYSUCKS Listen to me very closely, you cock sucking METH ADDICT. You are way too fucked up and far from home to know anything. All the BORN channels you have been posting is not Mark. It is me, DUSTIN JOLLEY.

    I am back, scumbag.

  • Not only do I think this song is incredible, the vocal performance, the message, all soul-grabbing and relevant today, one of my all times, but darn it, I love those 80's graphics!

That glow-y, neon, TRON-like visually crude but friggin' cool video visual graphic design of the early 80's!! Love that stuff. Futurism was really big then as the 80's started.

  • no one cantop grace slick nuff said

  • Is that Doug Henning on lead vocals?

  • Pretty slick for you to notice that about ripping up the band

  • ansley dunbar is a F-ing great drummer!

  • Man this song really brings back such great memories, what a great time to be alive, It reminds me of my best friend Mike who was killed in a car crash. Hanging at the lake, and cranking this up while crusing around.

  • THIS Is rock-n-roll!

  • Love this!

  • Whos that singing?

  • Seeing the new lead singer wearing a tie made me think of another group: Cheap Trick

  • I feel bad for most of my generation because they don't know about so many awesome bands like this... thank God I have a dad with good taste in music haha

  • @fnlamber so true haha when i was like 6 my dad would be playing beatles, led zeppelin and all this good shit on the way to school

  • omigod, i forgot about this cool video. This was a good era for them. The one that followed with Built this City, Sara, and Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now sucked really bad. Mickey had the voice.

  • I remember hearing this tune on a jukebox at a bowling alley when I was a little kid almost 30 years ago. Been a fan since.

  • utube needs the energizer bunny the way these load

  • mickey thomas' voice and the range he has made this song, along with awesome guitars . only band with four guitarist, i so miss bands and songs like this . bands now a days don't have the talent to write songs like this any more .

  • America?? Find your way back!

  • 3 guitars, well 4 with Craigs double, soooo fine when played on the same cord. NOBODY PLAYS IT BETTER!!!!!

  • Grace is decked out in her S&M bad boys get spanked outfit....hmmm..

  • Aynsley Dunbar..monster chops on the drums.

  • DOUBLE NECK GUITAR!!!

  • Merci!

  • @Imperialist440-thats cool...i never knew that....i like this song, but i think mickey thomas is the worst thing about it.Ansley is all about the party n the paycheck prolly.

great song tho, cant take anything away from the lyrics.God bless mickey tho, huge shoes to fill and he did his best

  • @1971Goldtop got 2 expect it, when u make dumbass comments, dicklicker

  • @1971Goldtop fuck u! ur the ass clown, u wudnt kno talent if it fell on ya douche!

  • I can't believe this band with a decently heavy sound of 3, count 'em 3, guitarists is the same band that subjected the world to "We Built This City" a few years later.

  • @bjohnson55555 And thank the rock gods we got that classic...I know its cool to hate it. But I love it in all its 80's glory

  • I love her!

  • One of the alltime great songs of AOR-album oriented rock...back when you could hear new songs all the time, not the same fucking zeppelin/eagles/pink floyd songs over and over and over and over lol...i like those bands but you know what I mean...

  • i think the best song by jefferson airplane is 1985's "we built this city." i do consider it a jefferson airplane song because......it's just is, damn it.

  • @jste77 the 80's were a bad time for what was left of the airplane/starship. This is spinal tap style AOR. Hot tuna kept the spirit of the `airplane .

  • Steve Smith is/was/always will be my favorite Journey drummer, but there is no doubt Aynsley Dunbar brought his A Game to everything he did.

  • Just heard this song on a Classic station in Chicago. Awesome song!!! Singing and playing air guitar all the way home!!!

  • If radio listeners (harder to find with XM & others) let their classic rock stations know about playing this & "Jane" more, we'll hear these types of songs more often.

  • fed singal I think copied my idea for a noise generator on motocycles to make presence known..si vest copied my netflix idea. firstwatch company is copying my idea of breakfast franchises.

  • fed singal I think copied my idea for a noise generator on motocycles to make presence known..si vest copied my netflix idea.

  • This is really embarrassing after what they did before. I feel bad for Kantner.

  • @apemanstreetwalker haha ya cant live in the 60 `s ! I am sure kantner gave all his starship profits to charity ? LOL NOT ! LOL

  • ..I wanna get the Spirit in Command and Comforter back into my life to SEE!..to Help you I want to!...In Any Event!...cool cool! "Find Your Way Back!"..(aka Fox. Rock's Czar!)

  • This song was about America trying to find its way back, but it wont happen...

  • One of the greatest rock bands of all time, to bad the kids of today Don't know about them.

    100,000 views very sad

  • @Kellyu714 I am an exception to your "bad kids" comment. I love Jefferson Starship & Airplane :)

  • Wonder where she is though!

  • Great lip syncing. Sounds exactly like the song on the album.

    Pleeeezzze.

  • The piano part sounds like Christine Sixteen.

  • Love the archaic, early CGI in this video. Reminds me of Tron in a way.

  • Going to see them tomorrow! Cant wait

  • Around 3:38 it looks like Mickey Thomas shot up.

  • I have nerver heard of any Lady Gaga's music

  • Awesome sounding guitars.........

  • Great in Elvin Bishop & great here with J Starship....all over great singer

  • grace slick is a cool bad ass girl FUN FACT she got banned from a White House function when it came to light that she wanted to drop an LSD tab on President Nixon's coffee/ tea/drink

  • Jefferson Mustache...

  • I am still In Love with Grace Slick ♥♥♥

    MadMark

  • Nobody can sign like Mickey Thomas. He still sounds amazing and sings this song in the same key as he did 30 years ago. I just got a little nauseous over the fact that this song is 30 years old. It's such a great song. Brings back so many memories!

  • Whomever was managing this band back in the day was brilliant. This singer was _awesome_.

  • @d3wdman Take a listen to some of theYouTube videos of him singing this song live today. At the age of 62, he's still amazing. I can't think of a singer who has maintained their vocal abilities the way Mickey Thomas has.

  • I think this is the strongest line-up of the Jefferson Starship/Starship ever had. Great musicians, vocals and harmonies. this band was just loaded with talent.

  • Like seeing musicians playing instruments. Good jam.

  • Really enjoyed this & Jane. Prefered the harder edged Chaquico driven JS. They got too AOR poppy soft with Built this City.

  • castrato? lol just kidding... i love this song...

  • its amazing how much they have changed.

  • lol, wtf is this shit, shes Grace Slick????

  • TOTAL classic. God I miss my youth.

  • For me they lost all cred when they released "Built This City".....one of the worst songs in the history or music....I love these old songs...but that one just soured my whole vision of them...ha ha..

  • @sgetty58 Sorry. I could not DISagree with you more. "We Built This City" is a CLASSIC....of the 1980's as this one is. U had to live it to know. If ya did, then ya missed it.

  • my dad went to college with mickey's sister :D

  • No offence whatsoever but the dude at 2:18 looks just like Stan's dad from South Park.

  • Cool tune. Gimme that Carvin DN612!

  • I wish popular music would find its way back to the heart

  • The song "Find Your Way Back " heralds the return of Grace Slick after a three year absence from Jefferson Starship. Note the clever part of the video where the picture of the band (minus Slick) is ripped up and put back together again with Grace's picture. Pretty Slick!

Note: Drummer Ansley Dunbar left Journey after the Infinity album and joined Jefferson Starship (along with Mickey Thomas) beginning with the album Freedom at Point Zero in 1979.

  • @Imperialist440 that some real rock history but ansley cant sleep a nite i am sure he could of fit the bill but steve smith sure is pretty good

  • @Imperialist440 YOU KNOW IT BROTHER!! ANSLEY DUNBAR WAS A WELL RESPECTED STUDIO DRUMMER IN THE LATE 70'S!! AND IN MY OPINION,,,THIS ONE OF THE 10 BEST SONGS OF THE 20TH CENTURY THAT BOLTH COMMANDS AND RESPECTS THE "TURN IT UP TO 11" RATINGS!! THIS SONG KICKS FREAKIN ASS!!!! THANK YOU THE DECADE OF DECADENCE,,THE 1980'S!!!! THE CLASS OF 1986 IS STILL IN SESSION!!

  • @Imperialist440 Great song, always has been, but I always saw the video as proof that Grace Slick came back to the band at the very last minute, yes, even after they did the photography, and they did a quickie video to give the impression that she recorded this song with the band, but check the Wiki for the album Modern Times, she doesn't sing on this song :_/

  • Craig Chaquico. 'Nuff said.

  • kinda seems like just yesterday.

  • early days of MTV...lmao..do they even play music anymore? We all need to Find our way Back...to working together like past generations and cut out the bullshit. We all have a hell of a lot more in common than what separates us. BTW..2:25 and forward is just great.

  • early days of MTV...lmao..do they even play music anymore? We all need to Find our way Back...to working together like past generations and cut out the bullshit. We all have a hell of a lot more in common than what separates us.

  • grace looks soooooo hot in this vid. wish she was in it more.

  • you know this is one of those albums that you listen to and everysog is good . one of my favorite albums of all time ,,, near perfect .

  • gay singer

  • Mickey Thomas>Great Singer+ Great Song

  • A composition that Tom Scholz of Boston wouldn't have denied...

  • Too bad this fantastic band morphed into the commercial crap they were in the late 80's.

  • Ah the year 1981 ! I loved it because cam Gigadet, and the whole ------ twilight cast was not even born.

  • @1971Goldtop....my pseudo apologies to you. I thought you were some kid ranting and raving about a music genre you had no recollection about. One thing bothers me though Goldtop, you are obviously from that era of music; why would you not like Starhship? I am pretty diverse in my music taste and find this group quite talented. Anyhow, looking for an amp is a "buyable" excuse I guess. Good luck.

  • @1971Goldtop ....no, i won't trust you. The amazing and obvious thing here is that for being such a terrible song and group, you sure like to visit it? Now why is that? Please, humor me. WHY DO YOU VISIT THIS VIDEO IF IT'S TERRIBLE? When I don't like things, I tend to stay away from them.

  • @1971Goldtop ....my guess you know your music like you know and understand quantum physics.........not whatsoever....STFU...you have no idea what your talking about

  • early music tv R.I.P MTV !!!! 69 VADER.

  • i love this song

  • @PoohlvrGal03 HAPPY NEW YEAR, THIS WAS M.T.V AT ITS BEAST. PERIOD. 69 VADER

  • i want an expert to tell me.. what is the connection between jefferson airplane and jefferson starship

  • @TheDilligan jorma kaukonen left jefferson airplane and Slick and Kanter began jeferson starship... i'm no expert but im pretty obsessed with the airplane

  • @swanski100

Thanks, and wow what a mega-change in sound!

  • incredible woman and truly fantastic....great....Grace

  • Miss this knd of music!

  • great I am speechless

  • Pete Sears is the MAN!

  • great song

  • this song is great, and i have a small amount of respect for what they brought to the RnR scene, but to say the mickey is one of the "best" of all time...not even in the top 100!

  • piss on the person who disliked this song
