The original lyrics were "bright" and "tonight." They changed it to "gay" and "today" for the movie. She is singing the stage version.

The only reason for the change I can think of is that Germans know "gay" only as homosexual, not as happy.

Probably they changed it to avoid confusion. (No good reason, I admit)
