I agree with this video basically, but I don't understand why you think "None of Bacon's paintings puts...." is awkward. "None" is the subject, and "none" is always singular, so the correct verb is "puts" instead of "put."
I agree that "None of Bacon's paintings puts...." is awkward, even though it's grammatically correct. It has distracting alliteration, and it makes me think more about the wording than the meaning behind the words. It's grammatically correct bad writing.
I think he's just awful although sometimes he can behave and act like he's not. Ive only read two books by him. This one (I had to force myself) and Interviews with F.B. In this one, although that particular paragraph was by far the worst, there were other "gems" in at as well. In total, the book is completely devoid of useful information. "Interviews is actually great but not because of Sylvester. His questions and ideas are generally ridiculous, but F.B. kinda sets him straight.
Interesting critique, keep them coming

Are all of David Sylvester's reviews this ridiculous, or do you think this is one he phoned in?

I like this series. Your points are very funny and also sadly, true. I hope you continue the series.
