Actually cats eat grass or similar to cause themselves to vomit back fur their tongues have loosened when grooming,

A cat's tongue has a hooked surface like velcro (touch and close strapping) which collects strands of fur and the poor cat usually has to swallow it. The hair / fur then collects together inside the cat in what is called a hairball.

Mind you my cat used to love eating tulip petals too - all she left was the undamaged stalks standing up in other people's gardens.
