Gonz himself has said recently that a skateboard is "like a yo-yo". And that pretty much sums up modern skateboarding. It's about flipping the board in weirder and harder ways. It's not about skating anymore, it's all flip tricks. Watch battle at the berrics for more than a half hour and it seems sooooo fricking boring.

But skating needs to stay away from MTV, fast food chains, soda and enegry drinks; however we mostly dine on those delightful needs, mark out MTV. I remember when VSW came out with those shoes and we all had to have them, and we all thought they really made us ollie higher. Sorta funny. Those shoes wore out really fast, and it didn't take long to figure out that a pair of Converse hi-tops(leather, not chucks) or Nikes were much better skate shoes.

First off, this Vision video is from 86, NOT 88. Second, Gonz is a fuckin legend. Any kid who rides street today owes just as much to Gonz and Natas as the do to Rodney Mullen (who was only skating a little flatground FREESTYLE board at this time). The tricks he is doing from :32 to :44 were fuckin epic for 1986...pretty much only him and Natas were pullin this shit in the street on a regular basis in 86.
