The reason the car counts have gone down is because since 2005 Seekonk makes you pre-register for your spot, eliminating the days you could bring a car the day of the event and get in.
The demos haven't been as big since I don't think. I've been to the usually bigger ones (4th of July and Labor Day) and neither has had as many cars as they used to.
We also have something close to Banger racing at this event called Enduro Races. Full on racing, intentional crashing allowed. They also do a figure 8 enduro race, which I will take over Banger racing any day. The track has a giant X with ramps on all sides of the X's. Does banger racing use ramps to send the cars airborne into each other on the X crossing? How about using bigger cars, maybe a 70s caddy, or an 80s crown vic...didn't think so. ;-)

We can piss this one back and forth all day, as I stated, Demo Derby is NOT Banger racing...Banger racing is comparable Enduro racing here and it is not as common or even the same as Demo Derby. Sometimes they use the Enduro cars for the demo at the final events, as they do with Bangers, but they still are not the same. Go find some Enduro race videos and argue with them about it, as it is more comparable to them as Demos.
I remeber that night like it was yesterday. I raced that night my car was #18 1/2 red w/12 white cones on the roof and an ammerican flag out the rear window.
It was by far the biggest Demo I have seen there. I am not sure what's happened but there have been far fewer cars every time since, even for the spec drags.
shut up. anyway, ive never seen a derby where lights were allowed. Why are they doing that? and BTW, the olny reason we reverse into eachother is to save our engines, so we can keep on going. We've seen enough racing, and we just want plain old crashing, unlike you guys who dont have many races at all and just want them both. If we want to see banger racing, we go and see Dirt Track racing, crashes are very common there. And they hurt.
The cars have to have all the windows, mirrors, and glass lenses/covers taken (or smashed) off the lights, but sometimes people pull the bulb and wires through and let them dangle under the cars. Also, they allow the cab lights to remain on, not sure why, maybe because it's just plastic with on bulb under it?

They allow them to run whatever they want as long as they follow the base rules (chained/welded doors, separate fuel tank, no lens glass..etc).
They get a little over 200 cars to enter, but the cars have the option of running in figure 8s or enduros before the final big demo...it's a way to mix it up but also to weed out some of the cars before the final demo.

Too expensive to get cars. Price of scrap metal has skyrocketed in the past 3 years. Not many junk cars left sitting around.
