  • HAAHAHAHAHHAAHAAHAH!! Im sorry, but "Do this, take a picture. Do that, take a picture. Do that again and take a picture. Do this, take a pic... *500 years later* ... and take a picture.

Now your walk cycle is ready.

  • what programs do u use to animate

  • @MrReviewsandfunny most LEGO animators use paint, its already installed on every computer

  • @MrReviewsandfunny oh and they edit on windows movie maker

  • I really appreciate you easily illustrating the walk cycle. I was looking up how to do one for a 3D animation program that I'm working with and just needed a simple explanation. Even though the model I'm working with has a lot more and complicated joints, I really just needed a basic example of what I was aiming for.

Thank you, and I love Legos! XD

  • Hey Nathan great vid! I have a question--will this walk cycle work using 8 frames per second, or would that be too slow? The software I use can't go faster than 8 frames per second.

  • this really helps

  • a picshur ha ha i love it how u say that

  • You are suposed to use 15 fps. He explanes it in another vid. Check out my vids too.

  • @brickbroslego 15 fps is too fast for this walk cycle...

  • how many fps?

  • @reddog241 15.

  • AWESOME TUTORIAL!!!

  • thanks man with your videos im sure anybodys can make a great lego video

  • are those legos in the background?

  • Nice tutorial:)

  • what moviemaker do YOU HAVE

  • picteer

  • Take a picture.

  • @tortiseshellstudios It's fairly easy just takes some time.

1 Go to tools and hit options

2 Go to picture duration and bring it down to 0.125

3 Select all your pictures and add to timeline

4 go to story board view and speed up each picture by double.

5 This will play tour stopmotion at 16 FPS - close enough

Also, If I may recommend something, you should try Monkeyjam. Much easier to work with, even without a webcam. You can Import the pictures you have and play it at exactly 15 fps.

    JTP

  • How do you adjust the Windows Movie maker to 15 shots per second?

  • take a pitchuh lulz, good tutorial

  • That`s exactly the I figured out how to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But I started to do that kind of walking before I saw the walking cycle.

  • Im number 222 rater

  • by "take a picture" what do you mean, what i mean is, what do you use to "take a picture?"

  • @Twins92596 A CAMERA!

  • @Twins92596 Oh I don't know, maybe A FREAKING CAMERA YOU IDIOT!

  • plz look at my walk cycle

its not the very same trick but its REALLY close

  • ah ok, most people skip that "in between" bit, makes it look wierd.

  • No, they don't. Almost every animator uses the middle frame. It looks smoother.

  • Best walk tutorial on youtube.

  • what fps do you use in windows movie maker? cause mine are too slow

  • go in to opyions or tools AND SET IT AS LOW AS POSSIBLE

  • @bubbleBUTT4537

If you're using MonkeyJam click 'settings' then 'fps' and choose 30. It should work.

    @STgamefilm11

    It's frames per second.

  • i tried it worked but,my animation is slow .what should i do? please respond anyone who knows.

  • you have to adjust how many frames per hour you want!

  • D u think Canon EOS 400d Digital

  • Comment removed

  • Thats amazing! I tried that out and it worked! I have watched all of your videos and they really inspire me!

  • 15 fps

  • how many frames per second?

  • Nice but this is kind of common sense..

  • Thanks now my walk cycle is awsome come see my stuff!!

  • this is a great set of tutorials i stumbled upon now my animation should end up being alot better because i used to just rush into it and not really take my time but im having trouple keeping my camera still even with my tri-pod any ideas? Please reply

  • Im not a patience person to do this walk cycle.

But i did it anyways :)

  • What stop motion program do you use?

  • i use imovie

  • hey dude thanks for the reply but i don't have a mac

  • oh soz,try take5!

  • What frame rate do you use?

  • nice man

  • somebody..do you recomend me a web cam..?

  • i personaly dont.. I use a Casio Exilm, it works fine for me

  • a ok thanks!

  • Webcams are, blurrier, harder to use, (in most programs) and u HAVE to be by a computer.. It sucks I have my own camera, animate in my room, and edit on my computer, wich is not in my room

  • logitech quickcam 9000 pro

  • no.i don't.use a camera with at least 7.0 megapixels.i recommend sony cybershot.or a handycam.they are cheap but reliable

  • my Handycam was £300....not cheap. Mine's a pro one. anyway...I use that but it wobbles alot, not enough still support from the tri-pod.

  • i just got a simple one though,and i spent a good 60 pounds on a tripod.

  • hmm, my Tri-pod came with my cam.

  • lucky! maybe thats why it is shakey,it might not be good quality.

  • well, yes, Perhaps... I am just doing test atm.

  • cool i will subscribe!

  • Sklego knows me and he does this look at his vidoes man u rock!

  • gr8 vid. thxs for the tip, it has worked for me. is doing the run cycle just the same thing or do you have to move the minifig in a different motion?

  • he says picture all weird.

  • Thanks

  • he sort of sounds like Cartman

  • great tutorial and vid

  • the only thing I realy needed to know was the whole arm thing

  • This will very much help me, thank you.

  • i khow how to do it now

  • thanks a lot, this helped me so much when I make them walk it looks like crap but now because of your tutorial it looks way better.I got it in one try =)

  • thanks dude now i can make my minifigures walk!!

  • Finally i've learned how to do this :)

    i've made a test :)

  • Well you take the pictures, but what about making them in a video?

  • he makes pictures and then he puts them in a computer and make them move! look what other vids he have done! you'll get all the advice

  • Hey i posted my walking method as a video response. It's just to get more views and feedback on ways to improve. If you could watch my video and give feedback it would be much appreciated.

  • why aven't you uploaded does videos?

  • merci

  • can u make a video showing how to keep ur camera still while doing this sort of thing?

  • He made a camera cage out of LEGO Technic pieces.

  • sweet this helped a lot and so did the other Bricks in Motion videos. Thanks!

  • thanks for the advice but what camra do u use cause i've stated doing stopmotion but i suck at it i really need help, thanks anyway

  • how do I put it together and make it stuck and 1 piece email me

  • wait can i use my normal digital camera to brick film as if it were a web cam???!!

  • but it looks like it is limping

  • thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • THANK YOU

  • i do this in 15fps like nathan does but it comes out too slow

  • Don't I repeat don't use movie maker for stop motion, it'll come out bad, use a better software. if you want something free download monkey jam it's a simple software for stopmotion.

  • Very helpful :-)

  • thx

  • Nathan do some other brickfilmers that are a bit famous on youtube too use only 1st and the 3rd steps for walking?

  • im not Nathan but i tried that and it just looks like they are running . u want it to be slow

  • y is derek there lolz

  • how many frames per second?

  • great tutorial =)

  • good

  • Great tutorial=) i cant wait for more vids!:D

  • take a picshal

  • do not make fun of nathan! he just does that. its totaly normal.

  • why did u use derek

  • does it really matter?

  • thanks for uploding this 5/5!

  • Thanks for the help : )

  • Nathan do some other brickfilmers that are a bit famous on youtube too use only 1st and the 3rd steps for walking?

  • Yeah, this is what I'd say is the most popular method.

But I find it's more of a fast walk (though not a run). What I normally do is have 2x the 'in-between-position', so one in-betweener is more resting on one stud than the other.

It's more annoying to animate, but I think it looks better.

  • thanks for the tip, I will use this walk cycle in my brickfilms.

  • wow this is really helpful thanks!

  • thats cool and all but what if you use 30 fps?

  • 30 fps? Quite bold.

Just add more 'in-between-positions' (possibly 3, as I've done once or twice) and have more 'resting' stages as the minifig lifts up from the stud. But, like I said, 30 fps is quite extreme.

  • wow thanx for the tutourial this will reli help wif my jb gunbarrel :)

  • i tryed it but the animation wasnt that great how do you get the motion better?

  • Considering LEGO is such a difficult tool to animate with, this walk cycle is pretty decent, it reminds me of how a small child would walk, one foot slowly edging forward at a time. it would be perfect if the back leg responded as the front leg goes forward. pretty awesome though

  • THANKS FOR THE TUTORIAL!

  • cool

  • check my vids!!!

    and rate my walk cycle

  • Can you upload Inside the Lab and There is no Spoon?

  • thank you!

  • Yo nathan, can you do a running tutorial? I've always wanted to use running in an animation, but it never comes out right.

  • Nathan do some other brickfilmers that are a bit famous on youtube too use only 1st and the 3rd steps for walking?

  • I don't use 15 fps but just do the 1st and 3rd steps.

  • how do you do a run cycle

  • I never bother moving the arms, I'm lazy!

  • Thank you soooo much Nathan!

  • Awesome

  • I use 5 pictures on one step. And sometimes 6. But this is nice

  • hey, me too...sometimes 5 and other 6 frames for the walk cycle..but i don't know how to do the run cycle, for that I use the walk cycle with 2/3 steps...

  • Wow, I could "upgrade" my walking to that. :D ATM I use 3 pics/step.

  • awsome thats really helpfull!

    thanks for making this!

  • Great tutorial next do running

  • nice

  • Cool.

  • Thanks! I always wanted to see how to do it with the arms. Where's that "Inside the Lab" movie of yours?

  • I do a 6 framw walk.

  • This wouldn't be at 15 frames per second would it? It would go too fast I would think.

  • Yes it is at 15 fps,

  • thanks

  • how do you make it run

  • Lol! that music is the same music I'm going to use in my new film!

Also, love the bricksinmotion videos, keep them coming!

    -jnthn63

  • can u tell us how to make them run?

  • Great tutorial for a beginner.

  • I've been doing 6 frame walk cycle.

  • haha, that's the same exact walk-cycle that I use :P
