The story as I know it, She replaced Billy, and then went with Benny. You may be right on that account. Billy was definitely toremented, because of her race. Helen was Jewish, that was no easy ride either. In 1942 she went with Harry James, and thats when I liked her the best. I saw Harry and Benny several times. Harry was very personable, Helen teamed up with Dick Haymes in the late 40's for a popular radio show. Thank You so much from Japan

Helen didn't last long with Goodman. Probably because she was likely to go with the spirit of the moment rather than Benny's "my-way-or-the-highway" arrangements. When she was with Shaw, the story goes, Billie Holiday was also with the band. A certain venue refused to allow Billie to perform, prompting Helen to announce, "Then I ain't singin' either." Anyone know if this is true? If so, where did this happen?

Thank you so much for this wonderful film! Helen was my friend and I miss her soooooo much to this very day. While viewing this I wanted to reach out and hug her! She was an angel on earth and THEE Grandest of all the Big Band singers!
