  • This vid is popular on Astana

  • Your vid went viral on Turkmenistan

  • It would be so much faster to click with your mouse then look for specific keys in certain programs. Not up my alley...

  • Baby I love you

  • Not an original idea, but its good to see an alternative to the original Optimus Maximus keyboard. Maybe it will be lower priced!!! One can only hope.

  • My entry into the student innovation contest, Adaptive DJ:

    itprogram.missouri.edu/entry.php?77-UIST-2010-Student-Innovation-Contest-Entry-Adaptive-DJ-Jacob-Jennings

  • useless

  • 這個要在鍵盤上做LCD,感覺技術上會有很大問題(應該說成本),而且一直按LCD,LCD應該很容易壞吧。

  • finally something that looks like an affordable optimus keyboard

  • I dont understand why to transform a keyboard into a touchscreen! Get a touchbook...

  • this is useless

  • AWESOME! But there should be an option for the touch area to manipulate the screen and use it...Freely..If you know what I mean.

  • Wonder how much these cost to produce and if they could become standard in a couple of years.

  • This is AWESOME :-) :-)!!!

  • Congratulations to author of this, this is very useful! :)

  • hey, anyone knows what the song in the intro is called?

  • If they can make the screen look at your desktop while on a game, or give you game stats while playing, i would use this. But if not, then ill stick with my g15.

  • So its a touch screen with a keyboard laid over it.... I'm not sure how I feel about it... It'd be a lot more useful I think without the physical keys...

  • wow !!! I love it

  • lol at vista. he needs to do his updates as well.

  • lol at vista.

  • Something tells me this wont be cheap.

  • Awesome! I want one!!!

  • It's a innovative idea. But i think they have to improve it yet a little more.

  • Pathetic. Nothing close to the Optimus Prime OLED keyboard.

  • great,

but! you can bland tape with it, you will need the move your head all the time!!!!

  • i have an HP touch smart like that and it fucking sucks

  • I want that keyboard !!!!!

  • that keyboard is awesome.

  • creepy voice O_o

  • lemme kill em if adaptive keys aren't the low-end(without the touch region) and anything above(with it) standard before 2012. Also, nobody uses outlook, Shut up microsoft, you're adopted.

  • let me gues the price is something like 500-1000 + euro ?

  • What is the song in the beginning and end of this video?

  • @AngryMachinery any arguments?

  • Артемий негодуе!

  • @Powapowago the idea of having individual image on each button is the same, technical implementation is an achievement, but not an innovation

  • 1, it bums me out that the device doesn't have Xbox support (or vice versa)

2, that it isn't arc inspired (although a curved touch screen isn't technically impossible

3, wireless would make it much more useful, the buttons create way too much (whitespace) making viewable pixels versus mechanical keys seem an awkward tradeoff, why not skip the functional keys? that has to be cheaper even if it draws parallels to iPad

4, from my gaming (casino) experience, won't people look at it too much?

  • guys, you are 5 years late with this idea, such keyboard already exists and on sale,

    google for "artlebedev optimus maximus"

  • It's amazingly awesome!

The touchpad on the top needs an improvement though, it seems to response rather slow and is a little laggy.

  • a few thoughts from a HF student:

    1) The use of icons instead of letters in Ctrl+/Alt+/Win+ is fantastic. It enables extremely fast learning. There's really no need to remember the 'C' in Ctrl+C when what you actually need to remember is the sequence and positioning of the fingers.

This brings me to my biggest issue:

    2) Recall is MUCH more efficient than Recognition. It is the sign of mastery for a skill. For it to develop you need 2 things: A- decent learning curve and B- unchanging interface

  • from my first point, we can surmise that this keyboard can help facilitate learning in some cases. However, it can be a nightmare on other levels - a dynamic input device means that each time you need to type, you must stop to assess the actual mode it is in!

which brings me to my last qualm:

    3) By using the touchscreen part as an extension of the desktop, you also force the user to divert not only his attention but his actual line-of-sight/focus-distance. awesome in the slide/layout powerpoint

  • But could be a real problem in general use.

I can see it set to good use in the powerpoint scenario, and in non-attention-grabbing-necessary applications: Winamp+playlist / NetWorx / uTorrent etc.

essentially any app you usually minimize to background because it takes desktop realestate, and only ever want to glance at once in a while.

Also- might be great for navigating Ribbon,

As for the incoming IM- you're gonna miss most incoming calls, methinks.

Rapid attention and gaze shifting is hard.

  • fockenck thiefs )

  • Vista?!

  • Awesome!

  • awesome

  • I would pay $5000 if i could get this in a gaming Laptop :)

  • How about UI flow and fragmentation? It's a good concept though! Good work!

  • Very impressive Microsoft :)

  • I WANT I WANT I WANT I WANT I WANT (Um, $500 or less, please)

  • ms are coming up with some cool new tech

  • and now apple has a new keyboard.

  • Nice work! Piece of Art

Would love to see the complete (with numeric keypad) version.

Yeah, I know there is no need... but old habits die hard you know?

Again, I'd love to see that.

  • Quick question: Is he using vista? o.O

  • @namwob0 No. He is using Windows 7. You can see it on the windows button on the screen and that default Windows 7 desktop is there also.

  • If I understood the video correctly, only the hscroll at the top would be a touch screen and not the keyboard area, correct? I think I'd have a hard time moving to 100% touch. But if the key portion was an actual keyboard with mini LCDs, this would be totally kickass.

Good work! I could see myself flying through all the different adaptations to drill down to exactly what I wanted to do. Death to the mouse!

  • @borderhoppingyt Death to the mouse? Why? What is so wrong with the mouse? I think crap like this over complicates things way to much.

  • @borderhoppingyt The keys are transparent showing the screen below it.

  • Wow, that is a sweet concept. I hope this drives an actual market product. I would definitely pay for it. Is the Applied science department hiring ?
