It means you position your fingers in a way so that the string won't make a noise when you hit it.

ok i tried this song on my guitar (both electric and acoustic ones) and like it doesnt sound the same as the one in this vid and the the real version. is there something you have to do with the guitar??

just make sure they are tuned properly! look for a girl called kitaland on youtube aswell! she does a good version of spring nicht that you might find is better! but if u still have problems send me a message

on the last bit where you said you found hard,, how did you mute it? i've tried like a million palm muting techniques but none of them fit this piece. can someone help?

My hand is leaning towards the floor so that the bottom two strings are muted.

My ring finger is on top of the D string but not holding it down. (3rd from top)

And my middle finger is on the E string but not holding it down. (the fattest one)

how do u mute a string?

you place your hand on the string and then play it with your pick. So that it makes a "plucking" noise.

Search for "palm mute" on youtube and you will find videos on how to do it!

it means "Palm Mute" you place your strumming hand on the strings at those parts so they don't make a loud noise when you play the strings

No problem! Mute just means u place a finger on that string without pressing it down onto the fret so that it doesn't make a sound.

No offense to kitaland or anybody but if you watch TOKIO HOTEL-SPRING NICHT LIVE FROM ZIMMER 483 its one of the videos in the little related videos things on the side youll see that yaplamf is right on point with the tab cuz the filmer dude does a lot of really good close ups on Toms guitar and you can tell what he's playing and like I said yaplamf's tab is like totally perfect kitalands is like what the freak =)
