  • Hi,

We have searched a lot of videos on you tube and your video is amongst a few other videos that meet our requirements. We would like to use this video for a non-commercial closed-room testing of a concept. We are seeking your acceptance to be able to use the video. Looking forward to your response.

  • you should chew your food before swallowing...

  • Almost everywhere. But unless you're sitting in a wet place there are none under you. They require moisture.

  • Are amoebas...everywhere?

I mean, I'd hate to know I'm sitting on any :/

  • These are very difficult questions. One likely answer is that there is a chemical signal involved. Some bacteria with very thick or unsuitable capsules will be rejected, others used as food. Bacteria are not aware, in the sense that higher organisms are.

  • How does amoebeas detect there's food near them?

  • wow that IS interesting.

  • omnomnomnom.

  • YYYYYUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMM!

  • How does it know where and how long its pray is? And why are the bacteria it eats unable to know it is getting eaten before digestion is already halfway done?

  • @Evrythn1outof8infnty Q.1 possibly due to the morpho fields that surround a body?? A controversial comment, but it would make sense. Q2. It is assumed that bacteria 'do not know' that they are incapable of a higher level of consciousness that the amoeba has,but since electrons are apparently 'aware' of being observed that would make that answer somewhat in need of further refinement. (A philosopher with biology background dealing with the philosophy of the body)

  • how do amoeba collect information of their surroundings?

  • how do amoeba collect information of their surroundings?

  • Are they eating diatoms cuz diatoms glow and the Protista it wuz eating wuz glowing

  • Amoebas are such lucky fuckers. Look at how easy that is for them. This amoeba probably feeds, showers at its waterfront condo and makes reservations at the club that evening.

  • what is it doing?

  • Preparation is very important. You should join the Yahoo Microscope Group and ask for advice. But the microscope itself is also important.

  • how does it show soo clear like that...i had left dirt moss and stuff in a petri dish and i see ameabas, flagela and stuff but they move to fast! also when i look on 900 magnification its so blurry

  • You could try placing your water samples in the fridge for awhile in order to cool the temperature of the water which will in turn slow down the amoebas metabolism thus causing them to be less active and move more slowly.

  • Yes.

  • Is it eating bacteria? I guess it is because it's 1000x magnification.

  • the plasma membranes of amoeba are very flexible, so the amoeba can for pseudopodiae (i know latin) to swallow their food in a food vaucole. Another cool thing to watch is an amoeba using its contractile vaucole (i want to see something like that.)

  • The clip of the "Ugly Amoeba" shows a large contractile vacuole that collapses towards the end of the sequence. Some of the others also show clear contractile vacuoles.

  • @EDFWilliams can the amoeba be harmful if it grow big than tiny

  • wow! at what magnification is that?

  • That depends entirely on your monitor. But the original was made with a 40X objective, a 12.5X eyepiece, a 12mm transfer lens with 1.6X set on the Optovar. My guess is anywhere between 800 and 1000X.

  • oooh~ and where can I actually get amoebas?

  • You can find them in the mud on the bottom of a fish pond, aquarium, lake, swamp, even in damp soil, on the surface of rocks under water and such places.

  • oooh okay! :p thanks for the information! :D

  • Omnomnomnomnom!!

  • what a little glutton.
