keep in mind that the point of the senate was to prevent a permanent king/dictator. They could grant the title of dictator to someone (and they did for Caesar) but that position was limited to 10 years, with no heir. The Romans HATED the last king they had (before Caesar's time) and these Senators (brave though murderous) did what they had to to protect their beloved Rome. If everything happened smoothly and gone the way they intended, they may have even rewrote history to make Caesar look evil.
They did the right thing. Caesar wanted to be king and overthrow the republic. Too bad the chain of events had gone too far and the republic could not be saved anymore.
@WlakyMaster He wasn't planning on giving up his power. He never called himself king, but he had all the powers any monarch would've had and he had officially been declared Dictator Perpetuo(dictator for life) by the senate.
FUCK SHAKESPSEARE HE FUCKING SUCKS AT WRITING!!!!!!. and brutus did the right thing, ceaser was trying to become king. thats like someone coming into the U.S (for those who live in the U.S like me) and trying to become king. How would we feel about that.
@sunny9087654321 What's wrong with a competent king who is loved by his people and brought wealth to his country/empire ? Better Caesar than those corrupted senators.
It was Augustus, formerly Octavian, Caesar's great-nephew who eventually established the Roman Empire which replaced the Republic. He and Antony hunted down the conspirators and proscribed anyone else that had any knowledge of the plan. Those proscriptions were also instrumental in funding the campaigns, thereby preserving a good portion of the wealth attained by Augustus through Caesar's will when he named him his sole heir.
Brutus was Caesar's friend for most of his life, yet he was EXPECTED by the conspirators to lead them in the assassination due to his ancestor, Lucius Junius Brutus being instrumental in driving out the last Etruscan king, Tarquinius Superbus and helping to establish the Roman Republic over the Roman Kingdom. The conspirators saw Caesar as being ambitious enough to make himself king. They'd already made him dictator for life and they soon saw this as a mistake that had to be corrected quickly.
if they did not like his policies they should have told him, he was forgiving as shown byy him pardoning, brutus, and Cicero who fought against him under Pompey, also they could have simply exiled him.
The whole of roman society was inhumane without many morals, without belief in God, they were pagans and they created a animalistic society where the strong oppressed the weak
The did believe in god...many gods. In fact, many of the inhumanity that was normal in their culture was simply tradition in honor of the gods. Please, do some research. It was barbaric, but that has nothing to do with a lack in god or the belief of god. Some of the most religious people commit heinous acts, which proves that it's not a matter of saying or believing, it's a matter of acting.
poor caesar... wait a minute.... i cause his death. wtf?! no wait.... my evil half-twin brother killed him while i was at a war... a terrible bloody war. when i learned of caesar i went to kill my brother. it was a bloody fight but i won, and i won the position. bu still poor caesar... ah shit.... i can't do anything about it. fuck... k... see ya later. dammit.
@Vampyreboy23 Because they didn't know if he wanted power just to be powerful and have a dictatorship or to make Rome a better place and they were afraid of the first.
@Vampyreboy23 they were practically jealous of cesars powers who was about to receive the throne ... as cesar had no successor killing him would have ment the crowing of a new next powerful leader

Julius Caesar did nothing wrong, nor was he going to become a dictator. The conspirators tricked Brutus into killing him for their own gains.

It's always a matter of viewpoint. Winners write history - and in this case, Casars nephew won.
sebs42 2 years ago
what do you mean he won? he stabbed Caesar in the back, literally.
Waterworkz67 2 years ago
I was speaking of Octavius, he defeated Brutus in the civil war that followed.
If Brutus had won, history books would now tell us how brave Brutus was, backstabbing this evil evil tyrant.
