I can answer the Bishop's question to why "Christians" are debating homosexual practices - "It's simply because Christians wholesale are rejecting Biblical authority because they are smarter than the Biblical authors who wrote under inspiration"

Greek --- Dr. Martin was a pompous, condescending man who had no tolerance for any other view point other than his own (and most likely your shared view point). He did not smoke Spong. The good Bishop held is own, despite being in the company of a very hostile, close-minded "moderator", debate opponent, and audience.
@njexit8a Could it be that Dr. Martin's view was in line with what the bible teaches? or What Christ teaches? Perhaps, Christians are not supposed to change or compromise with other people's views. God is the final authority when it comes to "view." God's view is what it's about, not our views.

"God's" rape laws:
A virgin is forced to marry anyone who rapes her. (Deut22:28)
If a married women is raped and doesn't scream to alert someone, she is stoned(Deut 22:23)
God often told the Israelites to kill complete towns, but to keep the virgins for rape(one example is Numbers 31:18)
God punishes David by arranging the rape of his wives, then God also kills one of his babies (2 Sam 12:11)
