Why not instead try to learn on some of these topics? Saying "hell, I'm not a smart person, so what the hell" is no solution to anything. How can you know who the smart guys are if you don't learn?
@ReasonAndLiberty Probably because the smart people are no better off. Somewhere in every Economics book, essay, journal, etc., I've read recently, in each description of how to 'fix' any problem, one or more steps can easily be summarized as "Then a fucking miracle occurs."
@ReasonAndLiberty Well, I suppose that's one step above the normal American voting routine which is "Decide who's right and never read for yourself" :V

Then they got pretty much everyone I know to double down on this sinking ship and people still can't stand up to him and everything he represents.

. Actually his Nobel Prize was for describing the scale of the complexity of the economy. He wrote at length on the effect of powerful people's affect on the economy. And discrimination? this is a fellow who had to leave his homeland because the racists were likely to kill him. What have we learned here? That MoralMoney hasn't read Misses either. My but folks enjoy having opinions...
Maybe you should stop reading Krugman and pick up Misses. Because his whole theory is that even a really really smart person. Who totally cares about fixing things and not lining his own pocket. Can't make better decisions than millions of less intelligent people doing what they think might work every day.
@listener523 Or maybe he'd relate because von Mises misses any complexity in the economy. Here. I'll summarize: There's no powerful people, no discrimination, no Harvard legacy kids, no need for worker's rights, no need for the civil rights legislation, but basically the markets, like the hand of God, will take care of all your wants, needs and desires. Now only a simpleton would make sense of that.
@MoralMoney remember simpletons vote, they also lead as well as follow.you say a lot but make no 'sense' common or otherwise.yet you also offer no solution.please explain .so even a lay person[simpleton] can understand
@jmrail Good point. That's why simple, clear and absolute political messages are so successful. Fear and anger are very powerful but offer no guidance. Competitive markets are great, don't get me wrong, but von Mises and Austrians forget that the point of competition is to win. Winning means power and power corrupts. The alternative is clear: have an active informed democracy to control the government and an active government to control and regulate big business. Break them up!
I think you are right and you are wrong. Maybe you should stop reading Krugman and pick up Misses. Because his whole theory is that even a really really smart person. Who totally cares about fixing things and not lining his own pocket. Can't make better decisions than millions of less intelligent people doing what they think might work every day.
the "annoying smart guy" got in office how is it going so far if you really want a crash course in econ 101 research keynes vs hayek (try to stay awake for hayek)
Do all you people who want a direct democracy agree with the bill passed making gay marriages in California illegal? That is direct democracy at work. Personally being ruled by the masses who are brain washed by watching someone else tell them what they should do or think from either watching any of the news channels or from some celebrity living in their million dollar homes telling me to give money to some cause.
I feel that given our level of sophistication, our amazing technologies in various disciplines, and the lengthy list of terrible mistakes we've made, that we could really have a somewhat more Utopian and productive society. If we can somehow manage to put aside our differences, agree that we're all better off working together, and make sacrifices to help one another within reason, we can begin to conquer the galaxy and beyond. I know... easier said than done!
Here's what happened. Banks and pseudo-banks took loan money that was fairly risky (people who shouldn't have been lent to) and splitting it up and putting it in these "derivative" funds that they sold to other banks and brokerage firms. So Bank D owed Bank C owed Bank B owed Bank A on a risky loan. When the loan couldn't be repaid, each bank was suddenly unable to meet the demands of those it owed, and they all went down like dominoes. Not easy to understand but I hope it helped a little.
we are just fooling our selves that we are living in democracy- we are living in monarchy - just we are choosing the "wise king" to make smart decisions for us "common falk"
Oh yeah, true democracy is direct one, not this representative bullshit. I could have great ideas and solutions for problems, but would enyone care. NO!
Why?
Its because everything still revolves arount the PERSON not around the IDEA. Because I'm not the part of the political and social elite, nobody would listen what I have to say.
Democracy is not about choosing the right guy to make smart decisions for us, its about people making smart decisions for them selves.
Anarchy is a form of society withaut laws and authority, an anti-state. I was talking about direct democracy.
You are just defending dogmatic belif that representative democracy is perfect form of goverment, and that only alternatives are either anarchy, or a totalitarian police state.
Not the best. But the best applicable in a modern country. Ancient greek poleis could work that way because they were villages and only about 10% of the population had the right to vote.
As far as we know DIRECT democracy is a best form of goverment. Representative democracy is just replacement for it. The system of "modern" democracy is been envisioned as gradual transition from representeaive to direct. But it seems that people have forget that.
With time problems build up.
Because political issues become complex and people werent directly involved in decision making proces (plus lack of adequate information) , people have lost touch with reality.
Avarage citizen practicaly doesn know enything about politics or economy. They are judging by "look" or are just having prejudices over what certain political party stands for.
Politicians have figure out that there is pointles to try to sell people concrete ideas, it is better to sell themselves. The summary of all campaigns is "just trust us/me". The elections have became popularity contest.
With today level of technology is it realy imposible to make direct kind of democracy?
ok i guess its time to educate the drones. does anyone know what the U-6 unemployment number is? this is the number that the obama administration is hiding from you. it is an unemployment figure that takes into consideration people who have become discouraged and are no longer looking for work among other things that the "official" rate does not take into account. this is the true rate, the one they used during the great depression for example. it is currently around 16.8%. do your homework.
the primary econmics that a person needs to be concerned with is her/his OWN first. why in the hell would you be fearful of what's going on around you...IF you're running your ship the right way.
sure you will be affected, but ALL the DOOM & GLOOM? looks like time to make smart investors rich by selling your shares, like dummies...not stupid? then why do they buy when prices go up?!
run your household like a business and not like a consumer...results will differ.
Private payrolls are shrinking. Government payrolls are expanding. The government sector, which can use deadly force to achieve its goals, is growing stronger. The private sector, which cannot, is growing weaker. For those who believe that America's greatness comes from government, this would be a good thing.
What the economy needs is for these sell appointed wizards of smart to get the fuck out of our way!
i think this video applies to the health care bill too. hurry, give us more money than you gave us for the stimulus, we wont read the bill, but we need to pass it now. right now. you can ask questions later. i wonder if voting for that nerd paid off? or did he do what the last admin. did times 10?
This came out when the stock market kept crashing and all the politicians were talking stimulus....if you remember that was sept or last year......Nancy Pilosee (not sure spelling) made all the Republicans mad and the Republicans were refusing to sign on to pumping cash into the economy to stimulate it. MEMBER?
To your first reply: It would appear to be impossible to prove the stimulus is the cause. It's also impossible to prove that the economy would have recovered equally without the stimulus. You got me there. But the economy is still improving :)
You're wrong on the unemployment rate. The current BLS figure is 9.7%
You should also note that jobs lag behind economic growth. We may not see a significant reduction in unemployment until late next year, we may even see increases into 2010.
it is much easier to DISprove that the stimulus is the cause for the stock market up-tick as only 10 percent of the stimulus money has been spent and that money cannot clearly be traced back to investers and traders on wall street. the "U-6" unemployment rate, which accounts for people who have stopped looking for work or who cant find full-time jobs, which BLS isnt reporting, is around 16.8%.
The market is going to crash again. Gold and Silver are still going to be considered valuable. Credit default swaps and derivatives are not worth one-ply toilet paper, they were a way to insure the theft of tax dollars, income tax is fraud in the first place. They lied to you in your social studies class so u don't understand ideas but get bored instead; They steal your cash, which hasn't been worth anything since 1913. "American" meant only Indian!! until 1816, when it finally meant whitey too.
you guys are all idiots sersisouly just cause hes black doesnt mean you need to go all physco path on him like seriously get a life and do your own thing cause your not the president
@illdoc1: If you want a real, honest grasp on how the economic world works, read The Black Swan by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. It shows you that you can't predict what is going to go on with the stock markets, with economics etc. The mathematical models used in the so called "predicions" are completely false and lull those looking to invest into a false sense of security. It turns what we think we know about the world right on its head!
You are completely right about the "stat!" mindset, but every administration (and election) has a "stat!" issue. In 2004, Iraq was that issue, and now it is like page A18 new in the Washington Post. "Stat!"
who is the 'smart guy' that he is talking about? I assume he meant Obama...but Obama is prescribing the same dumb ass medicine. Both candidates were susbcribing it. illdoctrine was on the right track, but seemed to have missed something along the way.
If you were attempting to draw a metaphor between doctors and politicians ("smart guy"), you might want to take note that doctors "prescribe" medications, not "susbcrib" (sp?!). So you shouldn't attack the intelligence of others if you can't select the right word or even correctly spell the wrong word chosen. That tips free but the next one will cost ya. Have a nice day.
btw, i wasn't attacking intelligence. i said he missed something. that doesn't mean he is stupid. there is a huge distinction to be made there. from my brief observation, illdoctrine seems to be quite intelligent.
so................how is that changey hopefulness working out for you so far? I think the nerdy smart guy is nerdier than we first thought and nowhere near as smart. In fact, I would say he's dumber than a bag of dicks.

I have my Masters of Economics, and I do know what is going on, and I am glad stupid crazy people like you, are clueless, because keeping stupid people in the dark is the smart thing for us to do
none of us know how the economy really works. the guys with the keys to the safe have never really questioned why there is a safe or why they have a key for that matter. we trust them to know what they are doing and to get us out. but do they? would we be in this mess in the first place if they did?
You sound so insecure about your own intellect that you have to prove to a random group of strangers who have never seen / heard of you nor care, that you are smarter than some dude on the internet? What a miserable life.
that was awesome. you forgot to mention though that the guys who are "going to get us out" of this mess are the ones who got us into it...vis a vi artificially low interest rates.
Interesting to note that govt solutions are always perceived as omnibenevolent and free market advocacy is always perceived as the service agent of greed.
History is crystal clear as to which method actually serves freedom...
I dunno much about puppets, but muppets are awesome! They sing songs, and they retell stories in ways kids can enjoy them, and they have kermit....the frog.
Because I'm Jewish, and just as it makes black people who dress normaly to be seen with other black people who dress with gold chains and their pants falling down, embarrassed. It makes us Jews embarrassed when obviously Jewish people act black. Speak with a slightly black accent. you know what I mean. It's silly. It's like when you see a white kid dressed like a gang member. It's rediculious. You almost feel ebarrassed for them...Same thing.
Actually, I was aware that it rhymed. It also has a beautiful symmetry in misspellings. But I can't be a rapper because I'm white; and following your logic that would be an embarrassment to the white race, no?
I enjoy trolling, starting pointless arguments and having conversations that either have no point or a very deep one articulated as sarcasm. I do this to mask my own deep seated aggressions and childhood pain. But mainly I do it because I enjoy the fucking shit out of it, and I just can.
I work in the financial sector. I am pompous, arrogant and bored. lol
I have a brother who is gay and has a 13 yr partner. He is against gay marriage but for civil unions. My feeling is this if California adopts gay marriage then it is law in Cali. Not in say Georgia.
It is mainly a feel good issue because unions give most of the benefits of marriage except in name. I would vote against it. If for nothing more than the joke hetero marriage is. I would not wish it on anyone.
I am concerned with the presevation of our Constitution and Republic (not democracy). It has been turned into a meaningless piece of paper. So any further infringments should be vigorously opposed.

Private payrolls are shrinking. Government payrolls are expanding. The government sector, which can use deadly force to achieve its goals, is growing stronger. The private sector, which cannot, is growing weaker. For those who believe that America's greatness comes from government, this would be a good thing.
What the economy needs is for these sell appointed wizards of smart to get the fuck out of our way!

i think this video applies to the health care bill too. hurry, give us more money than you gave us for the stimulus, we wont read the bill, but we need to pass it now. right now. you can ask questions later. i wonder if voting for that nerd paid off? or did he do what the last admin. did times 10?
mccliffton 2 years ago
This came out when the stock market kept crashing and all the politicians were talking stimulus....if you remember that was sept or last year......Nancy Pilosee (not sure spelling) made all the Republicans mad and the Republicans were refusing to sign on to pumping cash into the economy to stimulate it. MEMBER?
poo0115104 2 years ago
yeah i remember. now im hoping we learned our lesson. maybe pumping non existent cash into the economy is not such a good idea after all.
mccliffton 2 years ago
From January 20th to September 4th:
Nasdaq is up 44%, NYX is up 41%, S&P 500 is up 26%, DJI is up 18%
The stimulus was a horrible failure...
recompile 2 years ago
show me evidence that the stimulus caused this to happen. only 10 percent of the stimulus money has been used so far.
mccliffton 2 years ago
by the way, unemployment is up to around 16.5%. how has the stimulus helped that?
mccliffton 2 years ago
To your first reply: It would appear to be impossible to prove the stimulus is the cause. It's also impossible to prove that the economy would have recovered equally without the stimulus. You got me there. But the economy is still improving :)
You're wrong on the unemployment rate. The current BLS figure is 9.7%
You should also note that jobs lag behind economic growth. We may not see a significant reduction in unemployment until late next year, we may even see increases into 2010.
recompile 2 years ago
it is much easier to DISprove that the stimulus is the cause for the stock market up-tick as only 10 percent of the stimulus money has been spent and that money cannot clearly be traced back to investers and traders on wall street. the "U-6" unemployment rate, which accounts for people who have stopped looking for work or who cant find full-time jobs, which BLS isnt reporting, is around 16.8%.
mccliffton 2 years ago
its barely past 9%
ELFKRUNCH 2 years ago
Wrong. The true unemployment figure is around 16.5%. Do your homework.
mccliffton 2 years ago
The market is going to crash again. Gold and Silver are still going to be considered valuable. Credit default swaps and derivatives are not worth one-ply toilet paper, they were a way to insure the theft of tax dollars, income tax is fraud in the first place. They lied to you in your social studies class so u don't understand ideas but get bored instead; They steal your cash, which hasn't been worth anything since 1913. "American" meant only Indian!! until 1816, when it finally meant whitey too.

Both candidates were susbcribing it. illdoctrine was on the right track, but seemed to have missed something along the way.
mayt7 2 years ago
If you were attempting to draw a metaphor between doctors and politicians ("smart guy"), you might want to take note that doctors "prescribe" medications, not "susbcrib" (sp?!). So you shouldn't attack the intelligence of others if you can't select the right word or even correctly spell the wrong word chosen. That tips free but the next one will cost ya. Have a nice day.
sergeantnorider 2 years ago
you got me there, but the point still stands.

btw, i wasn't attacking intelligence. i said he missed something. that doesn't mean he is stupid. there is a huge distinction to be made there. from my brief observation, illdoctrine seems to be quite intelligent.

that was awesome. you forgot to mention though that the guys who are "going to get us out" of this mess are the ones who got us into it...vis a vi artificially low interest rates.
Interesting to note that govt solutions are always perceived as omnibenevolent and free market advocacy is always perceived as the service agent of greed.
History is crystal clear as to which method actually serves freedom...
incidentally, which nerd were you talking about?

Sarcasm is dead on YouTube.
You go into any blog and write some sarcasm, like graffitti on a wall, but instead of seeing it as art, everyone sees graffitti.
You people need to lighten the fuck up.
Esspcially if you want to have a serious diologue regarding race.

What I love about this Jew is that he actually sounds black.
Maybe he is.
I mean there are Ethiopian Jews. Why not smart alleck white blacks who talk like they're black and pretend to be super hip?
But are actually just annoying Jews.
Oh yeah!
I'm a racist, AND an annoying Jew.
But I don't sound like a black man.
Mah Niggah!
TheOldNihilist 2 years ago
Why not just call him "that guy" instead of "Jew"? Haven't you seen his other videos? About racism perhaps?
P3gasos 2 years ago
Because I'm Jewish, and just as it makes black people who dress normaly to be seen with other black people who dress with gold chains and their pants falling down, embarrassed. It makes us Jews embarrassed when obviously Jewish people act black. Speak with a slightly black accent. you know what I mean. It's silly. It's like when you see a white kid dressed like a gang member. It's rediculious. You almost feel ebarrassed for them...Same thing.
So I'm calling him on it.

TheOldNihilist 2 years ago
Actually, I was aware that it rhymed. It also has a beautiful symmetry in misspellings. But I can't be a rapper because I'm white; and following your logic that would be an embarrassment to the white race, no?
didakoimama 2 years ago
It's interesting that you would quote me in order to create a rhyme, and make a point.
But when stating your own point, regarding how you're assuming I feel about race. You have to make shit up.
You need to stick to my quotes, otherwise you might have to take personal responsibility for what YOU say.
Not what you think I'm saying.
Eminem is a white rapper, he seems to be doing well.
didakoimama, you ought to contemplate growing a pair and making your own statements.

I am pompous, arrogant and bored. lol

also i wanted to know how were you affected by the temporal legalization of gay marriage in California??
TOXIC00L 2 years ago
I have a brother who is gay and has a 13 yr partner. He is against gay marriage but for civil unions. My feeling is this if California adopts gay marriage then it is law in Cali. Not in say Georgia.
It is mainly a feel good issue because unions give most of the benefits of marriage except in name. I would vote against it. If for nothing more than the joke hetero marriage is. I would not wish it on anyone.

I am concerned with the presevation of our Constitution and Republic (not democracy). It has been turned into a meaningless piece of paper. So any further infringments should be vigorously opposed.
